I attended Garfield High School back in 1972 and I remember the original main building, football field and others parts of Garfield. I have fond memories of that time. Great video Thanks…..👍✌

I attended the world premiere of this movie back in 1988 because my mom's then-boyfriend was a friend of Edward James Olmos. I don't remember seeing him but many of the actors were there. I later met a guy who went to Garfield High around the time the movie was being made who didn't receive good enough math grades to enroll in "Mr. Escalante's Advanced Calculus class", as he said. This one's an old favorite.
Garfield high class of 88. I was a senior when this movie came out. They had a special screening of the movie at the El Capitan & Chinese Theater for us when it came out. It's interesting you mentioned the bleachers, because I remember the Whittier quake (1987 I think) damaged the bleachers and they were off limits, they were eventually replaced.

We watched this movie in high school about the 11th grade back in 1989. I think it was English class. Great video, a great movie that rarely gets talked about...
Very well done, big memory for me, way back then my Grandpa passed and left me his tv, my dad let me use a splitter and run cable to my room, some how for free I got HBO in my room, even though it wasn't on the main tv in the living room. This is one of the first movies I watched and I loved it Thanks for your hard work . Also I love that 70's Square body GMC in the back ground 30 years later. What an amazing story
Great one again Kurt! It blows my mind when you showed me that truck……I still can’t fathom…. Did you ask the owner why that truck was still there? Olmos was still wrapping up his most iconic role in Miami Vice at the time and he would be starting writing on American Me, a movie that should never have been released, nearly costed his life. I had a chance to ask Danny Trejo about this and it’s still a touchy subject. And who needs American Me when we have Blood In, Blood Out. I have a lot of Mexican friends in LA and they still consider that a classic. But Olmos is a very good actor, also liked his role in Dexter.
This movie got the cholo of the 80's down pat. The attitude, the clothing, the accent, everything. During this time they were always caricatures in film and tv. This one is firme Kurt. Muy chingon ese.

Excellent video! I remember when this film made it's TV broadcast premiere, it was such a big deal. Our teachers in elementary school where encouraging us to watch it, infact, it was assigned as homework. It was broadcast on KCET 28 and it had a spanish simulcast on two of the local spanish speaking AM radio stations.

Wow! Another great vid! Really enjoyed this one! A couple of the actors (Lou diamond Phillips and Rosanna de Soto) were also in la bamba! In the 80s a lot of films talked about the gangs in L.A! It’s odd but looking at L.A today, it seems like the city hasn’t changed all that much! I could be wrong though! By the way, I love the Powell ripper hat! My favourite skateboarding graphic!
Before the internet came and ushered in new possibilities and a watershed of communication options, we had such HEROES as Jaime...........we had epic musicians like Prince and Michael........Films like Stand and Deliver..............one of my very favorites nice work Kurt and it would have to be the hand of GOD for that Truck to still be there in that exact location.........WOW

I'm a big fan of filming locations and your videos are by far the best! I worked at Roosevelt HS from 1997 to 1999 and I knew about the scenes shot there, particularly the heart attack scene. I haven't been back to Roosevelt since 2000 and I'm sad to hear that the R building is now gone. This video brought back many memories and I thank you for that.
