What metal system is your favorite? Are you still needing more information on metal roofing? Here is a great article on why you should consider a metal roof? digitalroofingcompany.com/blog/metal-roofing/

There are a couple of big advantages of stone coated over standing seam that you never touched on, possibly due to where you are located. 1) walkability, a stone coated roof gives far superior grip when walking on the roof, be it for maintenance or whatever. 2) snow retention, no contest here you don't see snow "avalanche" off stone coated, standing seam, well........ Lol 3) servicing, if anything should happen to a tile it is easily replaced by removing a few screws and replacing the tile, or simply popping the dents out. And I don't know how it is in the States, but here in Canada standing seam crews are a dime a dozen, whereas stone coated is still unknown to alot of roofers, there are not many of us where I live and even fewer who are remotely competent., lol, I have a long list of repairs and replacements I did to drive home that point, such as the biggest issue in cold weather with stone coated steel..., following the so called training manuals and using ring shank nails!! I replaced about 30 Roofs done with ring shank nails because they had worked themselves out due to freeze/thaw. Anyway I'm babbling now, but if you ever need advice on stone coated, feel free to reach out! 👍

Hi Cory I retired and moved to the Philippines. I saw the stone coat in the store for the first time other day. One concern I have always had here is the longevity of the rubber gasketed steel shank fastener screws. You don’t seem fond of them either. What do you use as an alternative?

@corysherban3308
@corysherban3308 Год назад
@@GoodCoffeeSupply @Gina M. Stone coated for sure, for a couple reasons, first, the screws, the concentration of screws per square foot are much greater with the steel tile, 2 secondly the sheet metal standing seam has a continuous leading edge that gives a much larger surface for the wind to "grab" at. Add at the end of the day stone coated roofs, such as decra, are generally rated for 150 mph winds. They are MADE with your weather in Florida firmly in mind! Enjoy your new roof, if indeed you go with the stone coated, you won't regret it, just ensure you get a contractor who specializes in stone coated and the they use screws, not nails

One question, for the stone coated steel roof, screws are driven in between panels. How do they make sure the screws are water tight?
@elmedia1532
@elmedia1532 2 года назад
Since no one has answered let me try. I own a home with stone coated roof shingles, the nail or screw goes on horizontal, but penetrates through top and bottom panel, leaving space between both. Since rain is not pressured onto second panel it will never leak. I was also worried about this when I bought my house so I removed panels on a 5x5 section and there were zero leaks after 14 years. So 36 years more to go on my warranty!

The friction of the screw heats up the resin slightly and creates a bond with the resin on the panel

Chris, great question! You would actually want to install an aluminum standing seam roof vs. a steel standing seam due to corrosion. If you would like more detailed information, I covered all things metal roofing in this video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eJOD_46htoE.html

@corysherban3308
@corysherban3308 2 месяца назад
No roof i know if is sound proof, but if you're asking does it have that traditional pinging sound of a metal roof, no, the stone baffles the rain and it sounds like any other roof.

Thank you Zack for a great video. I live in Lake Charles Louisiana where we were pounded last August and September with Hurricanes Laura and Delta! It’s now the middle of February 2021 and I’m FINALLY about 3 weeks out from getting my roof replaced. I’ve researched every type of roof covering available and your video helped me to decide on the stone coated roof. It’s the most affordable and durable option for my home. Thanks again.

Stone coated by far, it doesn't have the exposed edge that standing seam does, more screws per sq ft(sure to interlocking panels you wind up with 10 screws penetrating each panel on average

Can you put standing seam metal directly over architectural shingles. We have a 2/12 pitch roof. When our roof was replaced last time, 18 yrs ago, all 98 sheets of plywood was replaced because the builder used 3/8" plywood in 1967 when the house was built. Ice and water shield was installed on 100 percent of the roof under the archetecurial shingles. The I&W shield makes removing even a single shingle next to impossible. Thanks!
@kurtsmith4657
@kurtsmith4657 5 месяцев назад
It wouldnt be advisable. Most standing seam manufacturers advise laying standing seam on 3/4 in ply to get the best support and to help take the waves out between rafters/trusses. Also when you reroof over shingle, you cant ensure the intergrity of the sheathing so you would be wasting your money to attempt a 50 year standing seam roof over 3/8 ply w/ questionable intergrity of the sheathing.
@rickl6697
@rickl6697 5 месяцев назад
@@kurtsmith4657 I didn't mention it but the new 98 sheets of sheathing replaced were 1/2", which is now standard but in '67 there was no building code requirements in this county for a lot of things. Thanks for your insight.

Okay let's resolve it this way. Take one of those panels off and take a photo of the stamp on the back of it! I GUARANTEE YOU, stamp on the back of that panel it's going to say GERARD!! That is the old Gerard Shake profile. I've been installing stone coated steel for 30 years! You have no idea what you're talking about! And if a Decra rep said that's a Decra roof he's a moron!! I just spoke to both the Decra Rep in Iowa and the Decra Rep in Florida today! I will have both of them come on this feed and tell you that that is NOT Decra and that it is the old Gerard Shake panel! And you're going to end up looking like a complete raging idiot!
