I believe that I have the 1st gen version of this. Labeled "Stanley 500 Amp" on top and "1000 peak battery amp" below. We own 2 of these, one for each car. I've had mine for over 12 yrs and the built in battery is no longer holding a full charge. I only charge it twice a year, Oct and around Feb/Mar., as I kept it in the car year round. I've probably saved more people with this, than I've actually had to use for myself. I'll eventually change the internal battery when the time comes! I paid $45 for the 1st one and around $60, 3 yrs later for our second one at CostCo. Overall, a great piece of backup equipment to have around!

Very good video! Very informative 👍👍. I just ordered mine from Wal Mart for 64 bucks 😁 . I've got a Porsche dead as a door nail in my garage and a dead BMW outside and this portable starter will do wonders. Also I wonder if my thicker outdoor extension cord would charge it quicker than 4&1/2 hours because that looked like a standard household extension cable, so I'll find that out too.

Good review! I have the HFT 4 in 1 jump starter. It looks like the same thing, with the lights and features. It's a workhorse, and I suspect that one will be the same. The thing that drains the battery the most is the compressor. I just charge mine once a month, and it's always set.

My dad just got one of these, I have a 2005 Honda Accord which doesn’t take much to jump it. I’ve used the air compressor for putting air in my tires, I used it for about 4 days going to and from work until the replacement came in. I upgraded to a red top Optima (I do have an audio system) I was that fool who didn’t do his math properly nor researched all needed components for my sound system. But aside from learning a valuable lesson in car audio I learned that this little 65$ jump starter with air compressor worked amazingly. I’ve been able to jump friends or add air to their tires.

I bought one of these 2 years ago for my Brother and liked it so much, I bought one for myself about 8 months ago. The switch you turned at 4:20 is one thing that will trip you up over time. It has to be turned "on" to jump something and turned "off" to prevent it from draining the charge. You'll forget to turn it off and about 3 days later it will be dead. Takes 24 hours to fully charge once it's dead, but you'll learn. The pigtail at 7:11, seems like a pain, but keeps you from having to wrap up cord after you charge it. I thought about getting the bigger 1400 amp, but it's VERY HEAVY and didn't seem worth the inconvienience. I've used mine and I love it. I have it in my car being constantly charged through a 12V plug I rigged up in the trunk and I'm ready at a moment's notice to help a friend or a stranger (Walmart parking lot 2 days ago). The fully charged 1000 and a set of jumper cables should get you through ANY dead battery situations.

I've had this charger for 7 years and only used it twice. I've kept it charged though in case of emergencies. Now it has stopped holding a full charge. The LED lights don't go on when charging either, and only the two red lights stay on. Is it still good? Also, I've always been afraid to use the air compressor on car tires cuz I don't know how much air to put in the tire.

Nice. How long does it take the unit to be charged?
@johncantrell614
@johncantrell614 4 года назад
They do say in the booklet that it is recommended that the unit be initially charged for 40 hours, because it has a float charge system in it, and that when you first get it, it can have a condition that makes the status gauge read as full because of high impedance. Yours may or may not have this condition, but it is recommended by the manufacturer that the first good charge be for 40 hours. At least it reads that way with mine, it is a newer one.
@paulclements874
@paulclements874 2 года назад
You bring up a good point here. I unboxed mine plugged it in for an hour even though my battery read full charge. I connected the box to the car turned switch to on pressed battery button but the 3 lights turn off after a second. Still unsure if that's how it works the first time
@johncantrell614
@johncantrell614 2 года назад
@@paulclements874 yes, I would give it the one good 40 hour charge, then give it a little charge every month in the colder months, and at least every two months in the warmer months if not using it. But so far, mine is serving pretty well.

Not a bad unit - A good thing to remember is to turn off the jump booster at the switch before disconnecting the cables or you might get a big SPARKY SPARKY !!! Also the internal battery can be replaced when it no longer holds a charge - You'll know when its had it's time cause the recharge time will shorten - so don't throw the unit away....

i got something similar here, cos i don't know if my battery is getting low, or because it's rather very cold out there these days, but lately my 4cylinders car won't start. The one i got is a later model i think, without the lighter plug, and with a small digital screen on it. Here it's branded "Motomaster Eliminator" (Canadian Tire, it's their brand), so i guess Stanley made those, and Canadian Tire bought the rights to put their own name on them. Now lately this model seem to be discontinued, so the remaining stock is on discount. I wanted the smaller ones but it's sold out everywhere around here, cos of the cold and engines just refusing to start because of this.

Here's a tip get a battery maintainer and attach it to the internal battery terminals with the ring connectors that will keep your unit fully charged at optimal power and make the battery last longer.
@FixingWithPassion
@FixingWithPassion 5 лет назад
Great Idea!~
@electric8668
@electric8668 5 лет назад
@@FixingWithPassion Yeah did it with mine and it's much better than the AC adapter that comes with most because they want it disconnected once it's fully charged and if you keep it at home like me it can go dead before you use it. But a good battery maintainer will give the battery the equivalent of exercising to maintain it's power, health and longevity.

If your car battery was fully charged and you crosswired the jumpbox to it, I can imagine two results: 1. You would get one hell of a spark (or shock) when attaching the second jumpbox cable to the battery. 2. The car battery would juice the starter enough to turn the engine and the alternator would then begin feeding voltage back into the battery.. but what would happen to the jumpbox? ;>

I also want to add that these or this style booster is far safer Hands down compared to the Norco lithium battery booster. this Stanley unit uses a glass mat type battery that when charged properly at 12volt@500 milliamps - and this to is a added benefit you can leave these units charge forever as they have a good pulse top off feature when they get full as it says in the instructions that doesn't harm the internal battery. Mine is going on 10 years on the second battery replacement which after the original one failed after 6 months ... the only down side is the compressor is not durable enough and burns out after a year or so...

You must have bought a good unit. I have gone through 3 or 4 of these and each time they last for about 9 months before something going wrong with them. I've tried different brands - Stanley, Everstart etc, they work good when new and then they go downhill. The first thing that seems to go is the tire pump compressor. Then the charger seems to need more and more charges between use. Finally you go to use it and it does not work. The concept is good, but the internal parts of these jumpers are junk. Cheap junk.
