Here is a new item I found the other day at target. It's the new stanley cook pot. Might be a good substitute for the pathfinder cook pot if it's a little out of your price range.
I own 3 of those exact stanley cook sets. I use 1 for kayaking and 1 for RVing or van camping. The 3 one is a spare for when someone forgets their cook set in group cookouts...there's always one, lol. I don't mind loaning it out for that time-frame. I've had my sets for years now and collect stanley cook sets of all types. Even so, always good to revisit videos showcasing them and seeing how different people use them for themselves. Also, stanley makes the four person size now. It's great for larger groups or larger food quantities. Nice video.
I have the Stanley cook cup and I love that thing, I use picture wire to make an improvised bale pretty quickly. I do like like that cook pot and may consider it. Though like the cook cup I would ditch all the stuff that came in it. Thanks for sharing.
I saw this set in Target like 3 weeks ago. I couldn't find one thing about it online anywear! I have the ultimate canteen cookset ( pathfinder store) so I passed it up. I had the smaller Stanley cookset and the plastic tab on the lid never melted. I like Stanleys cook sets, their tuff enough!
Great video. I have the Stanley Cup set and really like it..With regards this pot (and the MSR) they are easy enough to set up with bail handles. Fit a couple of hooks to either end of a length of light chain or stainless steel wire. On either pots, stand the handle vertical and hook one end onto that. On the MSR, you can simply hook the other onto the clip opposite, while on the Stanley you would need to drill a small hole under the rim for the hook to go through..
I picked one up at target about 1 month ago and it works great for me.the lid plastic thing I broke it of and put a metal key ring. Now it will not melt!
I have lots of Stanley cookwear and I like the plastic tab, makes it easier to strain water, I cook with both versions of firebox therefore is direct fire, I have no issues.
I'll have to check that out at Walmart. Once again it was great seeing you at the gathering my friend. Now that I'll be moving to Missouri I'll be looking forward to spending more time with you and the other guys. Have a blessed Memorial Day weekend. John
Very cool. Thank you for the review. I'm sure you already know, but if not, you can pop that plastic tab off and replace it with a metal key ring. That's what I did on my Stanley cook cup. Works great and is easy to manage. Hope you have an awesome week.
mo need to drill holes in it. replace the plastic tab with a split ring, put lid on, lock it with the handle lock, and hang it over the fire with the ring
Definitely going to check it out. I have the other stanly kit and that sucker is plenty strong. You're right it needs a bale. (Easy fix) thanks for sharing this.
I have the Stanley adventure cook set with the nesting cups and noticed that when you replace the plastic handle with a key ring you can lock that handle on the side over the lid and hang it over the fire by the key ring. Not sure if it would work with the amount of weight you can put in that large pot, but it works just fine in the one that I have full of water. Just an idea instead of drilling holes and adding the extra weight of the wire.
Thanks for the review Justin. Much appreciated. I saw a similar set at Walmart today and wondered about it. It may be good for cooking with groups… but don't know if I'd use all the plastic innards. Most of the time, I cook for myself with my boy scout (1950s) metal canteen, army surplus (1960s) canteen cup/pot and stove for most situations. I'm continuing to look for something light weight that works as well. Stainless would really be nice.
Another good to know what's available. Interesting too, to note the "bells & whistles" marketing folks use to sell product. The word gimmick often comes to mind. In this case that combo spatula & spoon. Like you, just can't see myself using it. Nor the plastic bowls. Once again, thanks for sharing.
I just saw this set at Target today, I might pick it up some time just to try it out. I have the Pathfinder sport bottle with stove and the canteen set and the bush pot set. And I have the MSR 1.6 liter Alpine stow away pot.My cooking need are covered.I'll just give it to a Boy Scout after I check it out. Thank for the video..
Walmart has a 3 dollar 8 inch non-stick skillet that will make mountains of pancakes and eggs easier than out of a pot. Add that to this kit and you have nice set. cut the handle down or make a wooden one.
What is your thought about the information found on the paper that is put INSIDE the box that the Stanley Adventure Prep & Cook Set stating the following: "Cooking over open camp fire flame is not recommended. Temperature control is difficult; this can lead to poorly prepared food and damaged pots. Never allow flames to extend beyond the bottom of pot. Doing so can damage your pot."
Susie Q whoops I threw that info away lol. I've had it over an open flame and above really hot coals. The only thing that happened was the flame blues it a bit but I didn't see any warping or any damage beside cosmetic.
maybe you can make the pot handle a part of the bail handle. flip it half way up and make something for the other half...just an idea. nice review, i might pick one up soon. thank you
You know i carry the east german mess kit and love that thing. tho it is aluminum and you know what we hear. I think its not as bad as people say, tho why risk it if you dont have to. So i may replace it , tho i love it lol
Nice set indeed - not much use for the stuff inside except maybe one bowl - the laddle and spatula would better serve car camping imo... I almost like it better than the MSR & agree needs a bail for sure - easy fix:)
During the wolfecustoms gathering I used the inside stuff and believe it or not it came in handy. Still wouldn't have brought it if it wasn't car camping.
Hi Justin, not at all, but in this video you might have had the perfect light for the camera. Your other vids are of great quality too, but it seems to be in this video, that the light conditions just made the perfect output. That's why I asked. Every camera has its perfect light / lumen setting just something like the light comfort zone and then you'll see the best results in contrast, colours and brilliance. And I think that day you just had it all. Keep the good work going brother. Cheers Marc
I don't see this as a bad set up. I am not going out and paying $50 plus shipping for a cook pot. There are similar cookpots on the internet for around $20-25 just like pathfinder. When you do business with chinese businesses they will maket the same everywhere, just look around. That logo is expensive. LOL Thanks for the review. But it is a shame we cannot make similar products here in the USA.
What ever happened to you and I can't find your website anymore . I haven't seen any new videos from you either . I would like to get you to make me a pouch some what like Dave Canterbury"s that he has . I have a pouch you made me a awhile back so let me know if you still do leather work
Cmon man are u freaking kidding me, if ur wife and kids are going camping with u the accessories are great to have a ladder and spatula are fantastic, what's the matter with u bro.
i subbed, you give a good presentation. i like watching different people to see how others do things and gain knowledge. my cook kit is mostly stainless stuff bought at thrift stores.
I'm sorry, but I have bad experiences with Pathfinder cooking gear. IMHO it is cheap, second rate gear, made in CHINA. Stanley cook sets are far superior.
