I have seen him live several times . First around 1980 , busking in front of the library at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street in NYC at lunchtime ! Great musician !
Busking in front of the Student Union in 1980-81 in Madison, Wisconsin. Stanley has paid his dues, and always brought amazing talent. Buy his merch. Buy the ticket. Buy his music. Support the band!
True. I do NOT play guitar anywhere near the level of Stanley Jordan. However, I DO also prefer to play barefoot. So, I guess I’ve got that! 🙏🏽✌🏽💙 from Minnesota
Great guitarist, interesting to hear him play this style of music. I have heard his playing over the years. Interesting he was have issues with those high notes starting around 1:44. He has trouble getting a tone and also plays a couple of sour notes. It's hard to say what's causing it. It's either the frets are just too close high on the neck to get a simple lyrical flow and sustain with that tap technique or he was have some physical issues on his hands. And guitar volume too low, not enough gain. I think a volume pedal would work on this where he could extend the sustain on those high notes. Basically he is trying to do too much in the solo, this style requires simplicity and sustained notes. There is a nice bass solo on this. Drummer was doing Benson style scatting. I don't think the swing of it worked over the hard back beat he was playing. Ironically he was playing swinging style on the rest of the song when he was not vocalizing.
I’ve seen him do that before…it’s weird…he was supposed to play with Maceo Parker one time at GOV…I was in audience…and he kept messing around with equipment.. Maceo was very pissed…
