If you find the Carrack useless, then you might be using it wrong. Kinda like handing someone a Phillips head when they ask for a Flat... 😅 Here, I'll shotgun off 5 use cases. -Cargo hauling -Team bounties -Bunkers -Medical spawn point -Team Roc mining -Prospecting via snub for mining Outside of it's main use of exploration & recon, the ship has many use cases. The owner/pilot just has to know what they're doing. It's not "almost useless" by any stretch of the imagination. And to top it all off, it's still missing several other aspects that will buff out any blemishes that it collected over the years of use. This ship is a powerhouse.
Yea, I see a lot of leople are complaining about the cargo bays not being openable with this patch, which is fair but they need to relax and just accept that it will be updated later. They're also ignoring the fact that the Carrack has lije 80+ SCU of space in the vehicle bay, plus more space in the top hangar. If you're manually loading, both areas are available to use. You just have to be careful not to constantly bump into the crates since there's no cargo grid. I've used both in the 3.24 PTU. If you're autoloading, it doesn't even matter.
My buddies and I love the Carrack, we use it as a mobile base/carrier for FPS missions like the Bit Zero factory ones, land a few km out to avoid AA fire, deploy ground vehicles and our medic pisces and ride into battle
the carrack always reminds me of a super fat TIE fighter xD love your reviews man. i cant wait for the end of the year when the polaris and the zeus comes out. if you need one of the for review i got them all haha^^
heres a simple factor. the Carrack is truly meant to be alone out in the void, the Odyssey leans more towards being resupplied or working with others, although it should also be able to go out alone just not be as self sufficient as the Carrack
I wish CIG loved the Carrack as much as I do. She needs so much work. I've been worried about her future given the recent Jump Point videos, It feels like they are taking what made the Carrack unique. As an exploration ship she has no tractor beam, which makes no sense given the drop pod mechanics. The antenna's don't work, the canopy doesn't work, the interior has a huge amount of wasted space given the design, the elevator COULD go down to the ground, but doesn't. (if you look, the elevator has clearance for the belly guns, and would give direct access to the command deck without need of the ramp) The astrometrics lab doesn't work, etc, etc, etc, etc.... And after recent cargo and medical upgrades, we are even more pointless. Please CIG, remember the Carrack exists. I love my Carrack, I want it to be worthwhile, I feel forgotten.
No manual loading, Medbed is not working, broken for 8 months now, elevators become loose and unusable for the last 12 months so currently i cannot recommend it being used. If they fix it then I will go back to using it
Carrack with AI would be insane. Replace all guns with Ballistics and your Golden. Also if you destroy the Carrack now those 3 cargo slot now break off. They are working on it.
I love this ship! right from concept I wanted this one. After a few Years I recently came back to the game and so I cheked the Ship out trough this Video(great one btw) But seeing how much of the stuff isnt operational or all the mechanics that they want to implement Im just getting sad since this game wont be done in 20 Years not even close to being finished. Hope the Carrack will have a huge Copium tank too. I'll stick arround ofc Since IF this Game get's close to a Beta state atleast It WILL be THE game for me Again thanks for the Tour great Video! (sorry for the rant I just want to hop into a Timemachine and play the full Version Deepspace exploring in my own Carrack^^)
Those big engines not being particularly fast really bothers me. One would assume that a ship with a lot of “component space” (space that isn’t usable by the player) would be better than a ship where most of it’s internal space is empty space for humans, but in SC that doesn’t appear to matter at all. Hopefully that’ll get balanced out in the future.
I walked onto the top of one during the Fleet Week show and there is text (No Step or something like that) that is mirrored wrong. About 28:38 but out by the edge of the flat area.
3:56 there’s a hidden modifier on it (well all ships have this hidden modifiers, but let’s focus on the Carrack) that had ridiculous good shield and hull damage resistance, like something like 55-70% resistance, so despite the low health it can tank for a ship of its size and role
this used to be one of the fastest ships in the game, 1224 m/s before the shit show called Master Modes... and right now, as of Sept 1, you can't do cargo with it, I tried to buy gold at SMO18, and no option.. not even if you want to pay to auto load it.. typical CIG
The Carrack has the best interior in the game, hands down. It’s one of the few ships you actually want to hang out inside and spend time in, really only the Origin ships have that same vibe, but there it’s because of the faux luxury rather than the more immersive way the Carrack achieves this. It’s not about comfort, it’s about a believable ship that feels appropriate for 5-6 people to live off for prolonged periods. So much potential, so many features not yet working..
If I remember right (been a while since I've been on a Carrack), the EVA deck has gravity generated, even in space. I seem to recall riding up there while in QT (hit or miss, like doing anything other than sitting in a chair during QT lol)...
I had a Carrack since concept. I bought it with my dad to fly with he, it was the dream but he died before he could take a look at it for the first time. I loved it, I melted it afterwards because it didn't matter what I would do that big ass slow ship that carrys cargo with difficulty was a liability atm unless you are doing bunkers, and the idea that I wouldn't be flying it with dad ended the dream. Great video btw🎉 as always, keep on keeping up! o7
Seeing this is an Exploration ship, one other thing I kind of miss on this ship is a decontamination airlock for when you visit an unknown planetary body. You don't want to take any contamination into the ship. This decontamination airlock does not replace the decontamination passageway the Carrack already have and you need to use before entering or exiting the medbay.
Melted. I've had it back numerous times and each I was more disappointed. I can't come at the size of the garage, the size of the hanger, single entry, floor layout, and functionality. These are elements that won't change and grind my gears. A shame but each time I melted the ship I felt relief.
Actually I like the mk variants, adds variety without removing models. or make the original design the base Carrack and the current ingame design the Carrack XL ? I miss those long probe antennas, or maybe even a communication dish such as the one from the MSR ! Aaaaaanyway, I love my Carrack, it's my number 1 favorite ship, even though I fly it solo most of the time (friends find the game too hardcore to their taste), and yet I find myself thinking it could use many little or not so little improvements ! So much potential, so many features not yet working, and the current design wasting quite a bit of space. It needs some love from the devs. I give it a lot of love tho despite the complaining haha Fingers crossed it will get the love it deserve from the devs. Fingers crossed !!!!
I've melted this ship and got it back multiple times. I can hear the Huey Lewis song in the background "stuck with you" every time I get it back. It's staying for good now
I'm not a fan of the mki mkii thing. I feel it just incentiveizes cig to make relatively minor changes to ships to resell them instead of just doing a proper update pass. However, a smaller version for a smaller price would be interesting. So long as it's actually a different ship. But I think that's probably just the zues es or connie aquila.
I learned that you cannot close the doors from the top cockpit, and thought my button was broke or there was a bug. Then I realized everytime I had an issue, I was at that upper cockpit. Never had another problem once I realized that as I always use the bottom one now. The carrack Cargo really needs to get fixed, its been long enough it needs some love. Also the ship needs a few small missiles, or guns to defend itself. GIve it some guns or something until we get some Crew AI for the guns, I get on sporatically and don't want to always need a friend in order for this massive ship to have any use.
All it needs is a second ground exit, an actual seat for the second command station and increase the hangar size to fit an Arrow in there with its wing folded, oh and fix the elevator 😂. Even with those gripes this is still my favorite ship!
the carrack just makes me that much more excited i bought the polaris. the carrack just feels off. the polaris does everything the carrack does and more. not to mention better. polaris> carrack
Hey boss something you didn't notice that when you're in the Captain's dorm, that bottle that you were looking at is a bottle of wine and its name is Picard😊
i have this ship as a loaner for the galaxie, and it just really bums me out that this class ships dont have any pilot guns or missiles it would be just FUN to have some fire power for PVE
Do you actually spawn in your dedicated hangar or still have to get there using the train? Because having our own instanced, personal area would logically mean we spawn in it. Or we should.
This is one of the ships that give me the "Star Trek" feel to it in SC. Not certain if I want to spend this much on the game but I think its a ship I'll work towards in game.
She has no teeth. She used to be fast. She used to be maneuverable. She used to be durable. Now she lives in a hangar until her other functions are... functional.
It seems that the ship has not enough crew, and to me the pilot controls on the upper deck is just a waste. In fact the whole upper flight deck seems like an afterthought, something they put in because they had extra space they didn't know what to do with.
This was great, you covered so much in a small amount of time. ^^ Fun fact, in that tiny engineering room overlooking the engines, if you look up, you can see the gravity generator sphere embedded in the ceiling.
I would love to see a missile pod be available as one of the replacements for the modular cargo pods. (As the Retaliator has now proven they work) Or even better, a bomb pod... 😀
One of the few big-ticket ships I'm considering actually buying with real money - when it's feature complete and AI/NPC crews are available. So, if I save $60 per year towards purchase, it should work out.
Making some notes throughout the video; 1: The Ship Hull is going to massively change with 4.0 & Engineering, Large ships are going to be much harder to kill. 2: The Cargo Pods, Jump Antenna, and Bridge cowl are all still planned, just not priorities now, likely waiting for all the the gameplay the Carrack requires(Engineering, Crafting, Modularity, Scanning/Exploration gameplay, etc) 3: The reason the Carrack is so different to the concept is due to what they had to do to make the Carrack fit it's role correctly. They had a version of the ship that was faithful to the concept, but in order to make it work it was 170M. They made the choice to cut down on corridors to bring the ship down to Concept size but made it fatter to not also cut out the intended content. She's one of my very favourite ships in SC. I love to spend most of my time in a given patch just wandering around with her.
I was torn about buying this ship but you sold me, going to upgrade my reclaimer to a carrack after 3.24 goes live so I can retain my XL hangar. YES TO TITAN REVIEWS
I'm a new subscriber to this channel as I have appreciated the ship reviews, but I couldn't help but giggle at the "10 minutes" part of the review title seeing that this is over 30 minutes lol. Either way, good content keep it up
I remember the Carrack was the first ship I ever flew that was bigger than an Avenger or Prospector. I had asked in global chat (some time around 3.18) if someone could teach me salvaging. Some guy picked me up, took me to Grim Hex and had me pilot the Carrack out so we could salvage it with his reclaimer. I tell ya, going from an Avenger to a Carrack was a MASSIVE change (no pun intended), it literally felt like I was flying a skyscraper lol. Obviously make diddly squat from hull scraping the Carrack, but was still neat to learn. I do agree though that the concept looked cooler. I also think the same of the original Freelancer lol.
Awesome to see that you’re known in-game too. Can I just say, I really appreciate your effort to create these videos. I know it must have been hard (and taken a long time) to create this. Trust me, I’ve tried it myself 😅 Really loved watching this one. Can’t wait to see more reviews like this. Also like the longer format.
I budget about $75 a year for Star Citizen and have been a backer long enough that I own a Carrack. I use it as a cargo hauler but realize that it's real usefulness won't be realized until there are NPC crewmembers, the modular cargo modules are modular, and the repair drones work.
Hey, SadPandaa here lol. Nice to see you in game, I think it was in PTU while you were probably doing the B-roll for this one haha. I was actually in my carrack that night and after you talked about the low HP pool now I understand how I was blown up from 1 single missile from a ground turret about an hour after saying hi. Thanks for the callout and keep up the good video content!
I recently got a Carrack, i put 4 Muri Fury's in its top bay and to Fury MX's in the front bay. I switched the star & port sides for attritions, and the aft for m6a. This is my warship right now.
The Carrack is an amazing ship. I would love to see this ship brought to a more complete state. Lack of access to the dedicated cargo area is a glaring issue with the changes to cargo in the near future. Appreciate the vid.
If this thing could have some kind of pilot controlled guns or even missiles I would sell my reclaimer for it immediately I love literally everything else about it.
@@EvenLease44 I never even thought of that but that would be sick! I just can’t stand the “it’s an exploration ship it shouldn’t have guns” arguement. *Corsair enters chat*
two new versions if one of them could be fitted with conformal fuel tanks on the sides. I suggest getting rid of the cargo pods and having one long cargo bay. the conformal fuel tanks could be removed and a new remote turret and missile pods in its place for the second version.
Hey Even, I don't think you get the Ursa. You definitely do get the Pisces but not the Rover. I pledged the regular Carrack package that came with the Pisces then melted it to pledge the Carrack Expedition version that came with the Expedition Pisces. Neither of them came with the rover. Unless someone can confirm, the only ship in-game that comes with the Ursa is a pledged Aquila.
Hey! I was basing this off the carrack purchase page it states you get both. If this isn’t the case I hope they can update it, it allowed access to both on the asop as well.
@@EvenLease44 Mkay mkay... so I went into my hangar (rsi site) real quick to check... So I have an URSA but I thought it was a loaner for something else I pledged. I looked up the loaner ship matrix and it shows that the Ursa comes as a LOANER with the Carrack packages... weird right??? So I dug deeper into my hangar and it shows that I never pledged an Ursa but I DO have one in my fleet. I can't select it to melt one so it was never pledged. So yeah man... you guys are probably right that it comes with one but it's marked as a loaner for the Carracks on the loaner ship matrix but as you said... the brochure says it COMES with an Ursa. I'm not gonna poke the bear anymore. I'm keeping my Ursa. lol
