You've got to be fair to CIG, this is finally some actual gameplay and as an indication of what's to come, pretty impressive - despite it's issues. The XenoThreat event visually and audibly is an absolute treat and it feels convincing. It's nice to see the gameplay systems catch up to the art assets.
@@fnunez I participated in this battle in the PTU, the small fighters (me, for example in a MSR) where fighting enemy small ships. It was fun has hell, avoid the caps fire solution and gang those pesky fighters.
The death wail of the bulkheads is so haunting. You can almost imagine the crew screaming as their reactor melts but then they just suddenly fall silent in that debris field forever.
So as a player of the game the blast of a ship will in fact kill you also he is vary far from the ship when it blew that ship is huge way bigger then u can tell due to his distance he had to be about 1k metters out when he was firing and when it blew he was about 1.5k away
If you run... your likly goign to be in torpedo range. better to get behind her and try to take out one of its main guns, preferably the bottom one. then you stand a chance at surviving :D
@@wither5673 A single Idris wont be a threat to a Javelin... Multiple? A fairer fight, but the Javelin has the torpedoes and guns that can shred an Idris down quick. Ultimately any ship solo vs Javelin, the Javelin wins. Which is why you bring advantage in numbers.
Got to love when you see the shot leave the gun, cross the pink shield and leave a burn on the haul exactly where it hits. Especially in a warfare situation. Gosh what a sight.
I'd love to see these big explosions cripple smaller craft in their blast radius. Such a massive blast with a small ship right next to it just ruins it for me. That need to flee while wanting to just sit and watch is quite engaging if you ask me.
Seeing this thing in action gives me goosebumps. Even more so knowing that as of this Invictus, I'm the proud owner of one. Absolutely can't wait to crew this with the org.
when star citizen releases (or progresses at a state where you dont have to worry about your progress ever being wiped whichever comes first...), owning and commanding this amazing ship has always been my end goal i look forward to working toward
@@31sebman Totally agree, but sound adds a great deal of depth, especially in combat scenarios and it wouldn't work well without it in terms of entertainment value and immersion.
Ive seen explosions like this ingame, but this was the cleanest it has ever looked. Even with some of the visual bugs i got it is still hands down the best ship destruction in any game. Lets hope the 2027 window is actually when it will be finished.
I understand the temptation of sound effects, it seems that nobody escapes from it, it is supposed to be a simulation of space where, as everyone knows, sound does not propagate. I even think I hear sound effects of when a ship sinks in the sea.
@@randomplayer3519 : I'll be waiting. And occasionally support the project, if possible. I still believe we can get a good amount of the original vision to life, although not all of it upon release.
@@gerthddyn They've hinted at maybe finding a Bengal in the verse somewhere you could pilot for a while or repair and staff up but at the moment all signs point to the Jav being the biggest one a person can "own" yes. I doubt we'll see a Bengal in the verse (not SQ42, the PU) though, it's going to be game breaking if it's something you can repair and then have as 1 or two big orgs will guard that spot forever. At least with the Jav, if someone puts enough time in, or money, anyone can get one. If it ever does happen we're so far away to even know what the PU will look like at that time tho
@@chomp7927 The kicker is that yes if you find and repair it, it would be a game changer. But it has to constantly be guarded 24/7 as it won’t despawn or appear at a space dock. You would have to have a large org that plays all the time to guard and man those guns to keep the threats away.
You don't buy this thing to do missions, you buy this to go to War. It doesn't matter what the ship looks like you can always tell it's a Javelin by the distinct sound of it's Main Battery
Yeah, those quad size 9 (or 8s, can't really find any concrete info) go hard. You can feel the power of those shots, basically melting shileds and armour of an Idris, 240m capital warship itself.
Just a thought: each of those turrets have four size 9 guns in a quad mount. By SC rules should't we be able to fit a double mount with two size 10 instead? Imagine having a turret with two Idris railguns mounted on it.
glorious destruction, impressive firepower, but what all was it fighting? seemed to take a while, reasonable for the idris, but wasn't all idris' i imagine.
it always annoys me how the external geometry of larger ships in SC makes absolutely no fucking sense as it pertains to positioning of gun batteries and the bridge
i think those two Idris's couldn't have destroyed the javelin if they would have positioned themselves better and use each other by hiding behind each other in rotation to recharge the power supply. two Idris is better than one javelin if the strategy is applied properly.
I wouldnt say so. Three Idris might be a better match. It seems like SC is the rule of three. Three Polaris kills an Idris. Three Idris kills a Javelin. Two Idrises dont fly like fighters btw. Their railguns are strong but thats their biggest ace. The javelin broadsiding an Idris is basically 8xs9s, 6xs7s,6xs4s,4-6xs6s. Not even counting the s12 torpedoes. And with a Javelin you dont want to rotate in circles around a Javelin, because then the 2nd Idris has to contend with the broadsides on the other side.
Lore wise, the audio is simulated in space. A component aboard the ship takes vibration readings from radar and scan data and turns it into simulated sound for situational awareness. In the future, that component can be turned off or damaged / destroyed.
you know, thats not how ive expirienced the event when playing it by myself, also why have you waited a decade, theres already a game to be played, altough people that comment stuff like this usually havnt even played the game and just come to spew hate for some reason
The Idris don't seem to fire their rail guns. Does it really take that long between shots? I think I only caught each firing once, and they both missed.
Sometimes the AI bugs out and doesn't fire its gun, mostly because it can't get a good shot or networking stuff. But they also can have the railgun damaged or destroyed which stops them from firing.
I love the ship, but I *despise* CIG's classification system. A destroyer is not a capital ship. Capital ships are massive behemoths meant to slug it out against other behemoths, a Bengal would be closer than a Javelin in terms of role and size. All the ships we fly on the daily should be classified as utility, interdiction, or strike craft. But I come from a naval background so I tend to view things with a perspective on how things should make sense
It makes sence if you ignore everything you learned from other sources and just accept what you see as it is. If it was other way around, and you lived with CIG's calssicfication all your life and suddenly you learn about naval/militari then that would be something you despice.
Thing is, if you were to go to WWII and show them what one of our Destroyers can do today, they'll classify them as Capital ships. A modern Destroyer has the firepower of a Battleship aboard it, and can dish it out too. The Javelin is like 500m long, its the size of a capital ship, has the armour and firepower of a capital ship, and is called a Destroyer. It literally has the weapons to hit smaller craft hard, and is a match against itself. It'll be hard pressed to sink a Bengal, but then again, the Javelin is supposed to have gigantic torpedoes so even ships like the Kingship and Bengal won't be safe from it.
@@HunterSteel29 even before WW I, a destroyer could potentially sink a battleship. Torpedoes can make a mess and even then, the right use of ammo can make a mess out of a ships decks. For reference, see the Battle of Samar in WW II where a handful of destroyers and escort carriers were ambushed by the Japanese Navy and not only survived, but sank several cruisers and mauled most of the Japanese force. That still doesn't solve the issue that the ship classification makes no sense.
@@zachrich7359 I wanna correct you on something: Destroyers didn't exist before WWI, and the first WWI destroyers didn't even carry torpedoes because their duties were to sink tropedo boats. Hence they first arrived as the Torpedo Boat Destroyer. Eventually they started carrying Torpedoes as well and they simply became the Destroyer. Nowadays Destroyers are more powerful than Battleships. It hardly fits to call them Destroyers anymore. In Space things are different however. And since there's no Cruisers in Star Citizen, the Destroyer takes that role and is thus a capital ship. It doesn't make sense from a naval standard but there's no reason to say it doesn't in universe make sense for Star Citizen.
Pfff let me take my EVE Online's Cruiser (approximatively the same size than the Javelin) I wil destroy this "Capital" Ship The Capital ship of EVE Online have a length of 3.5Km to 18Km
lol and that 3.5km ship have a 3d world with ship interios in mid? its just a 3.5k long ship with no scale cuz its just a RTS game and the vandul flag ship the KING ship which is part of SQ42 is 3km long too.
@@mcsamylou3546 dude its just a RTS in 3D there is not sense of scale have you be on foot in a planet with a capital ship landed in SC its just huge you cant feel the same scale in EVE never.
The Idrises are neutered too, their main gun makes FAR less damage than it should. Under normal circumstances one hit from it's main gun is always a potential life threat to even the javelin, bit since they don't have physicalized damage yet....
@@chriscaelum4878 What are you giggling about? You obviously don't understand my comment. With physicalized damage there won't be a health bar anymore and if the gun hits perfectly center on the quantum drive portion of the ship it's "bye bye Javelin", no matter how much better the Javelin is otherwise. There is a Lore reason why the UEE is still using an otherwise lackluster capship which is older than the combined rest of the fleet. Hinthint: it's the main gun. The Idris was always described as a sort of glass cannon in the cap ship department. Easy to defeat, even though we'll armoured, put if it gets a shot in, it will be bad for any ship of any size. Don't forget that even Torpedo's are much more likely to hit than the Idris main gun though, or at least that was the plan by CIG.
@@chriscaelum4878 You do at least know that the Idris has a whole reactor centered around just the railgun right? And again: read the comments correctly. I would never claim an Idris without heavy fighter support would ever take down a Javelin unless it gets a lucky shot, but you will never see something like the Xenothread bs again where an Idris has to fire its main gun dozens of times without killing a non moving javelin. That's basically something they did so they can center a mission around that.
@@Mat-hr1dg 😂🤣 woah mr idris owner relax, I don’t even care that much rofl. Especially since yeah, we are talking about a system that will fundamentally change when they move from ship hp to ship armor. If you wanna go try to one shot the Jav with ur railgun, go for it. I am curious tho as to what exactly you think the Javelin is suppose to be 😂. These are two very different ships with different roles and in completely different classes. That said, reality is that with the ships that are coming, the Jav and the idris are really just lil guys. Lol idk where you getting some of this stuff from, the whole glass cannon thing I’ve never seen, I guess you must probly think that size 10 is a big deal but something like the Bengal is really gona disappoint you. The Polaris at one time was considered to be a glass cannon, but even that was peoples opinion and nothing actually official. And sure, but you really think an idris is just gona soak 8 size 9 ship to ship cannons? Lol you think think ur one size up railgun is that much more powerful? 😂🤣 even when there are videos out right now of a harbinger sitting in front of the javelin firing and it doesn’t even do hull dmg? Lol the Jav is clearly borked but, like I said, good luck with all that
