Who would win? 1) A top of the line heavy gunship with dakka for days and a complement of VERY heavy hitting missiles. 2) A trash compactor with wings.
lol, I use it to 1 man HRTs for a bit of variety. Enter the area, run back from cockpit, and switch between the grouped turret consoles. Three Size3 shields makes it fairly tanky. If you just wanna chill and do some bounties, it can be interesting in a weird but fun way.
Thinking about it, the ship isn’t the scrapper or the grinder, it’s the RECLAIMER. It was your salvage all along, you were just letting them borrow it for a bit, but the lease just ran out.
Would be a great gameplay mechanic if the Reclaimer could forcefully attach to another ship and tear it apart as additional damage during a combat scenario.
I mean, depending on how the salvage arm ends up working, it might be accidentally possible. Probably wouldn't be *feasible*, but that's another issue.
Watching the hammerhead disappear beneath the clouds and re-emerge is exactly the thing that makes star citizen peerless. Can’t wait for when they get the volumetric clouds everywhere. Absolutely epic. Also, I’ve never seen a reclaimer, but it’s a tank among tanks isn’t it? To be able to take down a hammerhead is awesome, maybe a little over powered for a non combat ship. Lol Or maybe you guys are beasts on the turrets. Good fight though!
To be fair, it is a salvage ship, and salvage is a pretty risky business, since you will be coming up against wrecks or such to salvage and they aren't always dead...
Considering how long it took to win vs what the dedicated cruiser killers can do its about where it should be. Hammer head is just a light frigate after all
Hah cheers bro. Yeah it was actually really hard managing shields while trying to get cool views of the fight. You'll see at one point I try to focus on the fight from third person view and next minute my rear shield is completely gone.
It would help you a lot to use chaff in bursts of 3 instead of single firing them. You can set the burst count. I think it's Alt-H. Also, strafe up immediately or you'll be too close and still get hit
And after releasing countermeassures against incoming missiles it usually helps, to change course of your ship (or at least move away from the chaff). The missiles already heading, where you where and now are the chaff... so you should not be there anymore.
I've always thought it would be really cool to see a (maybe not official) variant of the reclaimer that's been retrofitted for combat, swap out the grabby arm for a massive gun, gut the salvaging equipment for some module upgrades or making the hangar larger, use the drone ports for combat drones. It'd be really cool to see pirate fleets utilizing ships in unusual ways like this, you stumble upon what you think is a salvage operation cleaning up what appears to be the remnants of a very recent battle, only for the reclaimer to spew out a few fighters as you realise it wasn't collecting the salvage...it created it.
Or they could get rid of the cargo and use it as a troop carrier. Yeah that would be terrifying. Imagine you're just defending a point and out of nowhere something blots out the sun and drops like 400 guys on top of you.
I wonder if you could use the tractor beam, then use the claw and clamp onto the ship, and just go ham on the turrets until the ship blows up. Make your own salvage. lol
Reclaimer is an absolute beast, the only thing I wish it had was a medical bed and a bigger cargo bay/elevator for storing vehicles but that would be asking for too much. I can't wait for Salvage.
I was hoping to fit an Ursa inthere ngl. And a med bed! Man that would be mean. What I would want more than anything though, was the Reclaimer being able to dock.
The smallest vehicle you can fit an Ursa in is the Valkyrie as far as I'm aware. The Reclaimer is just a big fat salvage ship (/gunship) with a tiny elevator
Honestly? I don't think that would necessarily be too much. It's a big ship, and accidents are a fact of life in an industrial setting. And the rover could be used for terrestrial salvage operations (of course, not an Ursa, but some other yet-to-be-designed industrial Rover)
Yep. And here we see, the Hammerhead is not really made to fight something over it's size. Reclaimer against a Perseus (when it's finally playable), would be interesting too :)
It's designed to destroy swarming fighters. You can't bring self-propelled anti aircraft gun to battle a tank if you want to win. So reclaimer could be a piece of cake for javelin and idris.
Should have decoupled, you have your landing gear down so you enter 'float mode', as long as your vtol is on, you won't sink with decoupled, vtol, and gear down
Still, I was hoping, when you had him kind of in front of you, that you were going to try for THE CLAW!!!! ;) And you have to wonder if, when they have THE CLAW working, we'll be able to grab onto non-salvage ships and make them salvage :D
damn that was an epic fight, i own a Reclaimer, you never see them in action and have never seen one go up against a Hammerhead. I would love to see a straight dual between a Hammerhead and Reclaimer to see how they stack against each other!! Crazy seeing the HH fall out of the sky though, gravity a dangerous enemy when fighting against distortion/emp weapons!! Great vid guys and awesome performance everyone shown in the vid

Man that was cool as fuck, holy shit! The reclaimer is my favourite ship in the game, and seeing it hold up to a hammerhead is awesome :D Also the sounds from the interior are so cool

yeah good point. but it is a heavy HEAVY ship. just below capital class. The handling is heavy, but I think that's fair with the amount of firepower and shields the Reclaimer has. We will just have to wait and see how she does when salvage is out
People think reclaimer is useless. Meanwhile people who own reclaimers be like: "haha guns go burr" *Hammerhead explodes* Also not gonna lie, im a reclaimer pilot/owner too and seeing this lad fly with his landing gear down the whole time made me cringe a bit, still was an epic fight lol
I know how to take the landing gear up, I just love the look of the ship with them down. Was it just that the landing gear was down or that the thrusters were in VTOL mode that bothered you? And yeah Reclaimer is definitely not useless.. so many guns and massive shields. Very underrated imo
can you no longer slave most of the guns(sans top turret)? Last time I flew my Reclaimer I had a six shot volley as the pilot. It melts shields if you can stay front facing the whole time, or get cannons so you can shoot at people before missile range. The two ships with EMP are the most dangerous if you have to fight them.

please commit herecy and cover the reclaimer in deadbolts except the big 2xs5 guns make them distortions or somthing laser and hunt big targets will be able to dish out max pain apon targets since the rounds explode taking out guns thrusters and engines... will be like owning a AC-130 on crack
Lol you're not totally wrong. The Hammerhead could have gotten away easy if he wanted to though. But he chose to stay and fight to the end. Gotta respect that.
@@gorgewashington1216 it shouldn't have that many guns to just 1 gunner for sure. It takes skill though, which my gunners had for sure, to switch view and turrets stations to keep firing on target. They did an awesome job.
okay but now imagine when they actually implement the big arm on the belly. chasing an enemy and grabbing it to crush the engines with the claw. space melee combat

Yes I ran standard loadout. You're probably right. Normally people recommend repeaters over cannons for PVP because of the higher velocity, but that's the same on S5's and would hardly matter on big slow fat ships like Reclaimers and Hammerheads

the game runs better now in 3.17. I'm on Ryzen 5 3600 and rtx 2060. I only had 16 GB shitty MHZ ram at the time, but have now upgraded to DDR4 32Gb 3600mhz, I get pretty decent performance now with my mediocre rig.
While watching the video, I noticed multiple missiles that seemed to appear off screen. Where were those coming from, and I am also curious if the HH was fully crewed because it didn't seem like they were always firing at you during every pass despite having angles with their turrets.
This was many many patches ago, and yes there was a random cutty firing missiles at the HH ( I didn't realize at the time), and it did help us. The HH had 3 people in it and so did the Reclaimer. The HH would obliterate the Reclaimer now after they changed the Reclaimer S3 turrets, I think
MSR is absolute shit for combat. Yes a retaliator would have made quick work of both hammerhead and reclaimer, but this was a gunship battle between real men
