Latitude by Meridian Altitude can be used only if observation is done when body is on observer's meridian. Ex-meridian method can be used only if the body is within ex-meridian limits. Longitude by Chronometer can be used when the Azimuth of the body is close to East or West as then the direction of PL is close to North-South. Otherwise, the error in longitude increases due to any error in latitude. Intercept method can does not suffer from any of the above limitations. Star sights can also be solved by any applicable method. But as intercept method can be used without any other consideration, it is commonly deployed.
