Starkiller is the one of the best EU characters, dude pulled down a star destroyer, helped found the rebel alliance, went toe to toe with both the emperor and vader. And in this expansion, kills obi wan... TWICE! Kills Boba Fett, and turns Luke to the dark side.

Nothing Rey does is out of character for Star Wars. The force chose her, in response to Palpatine trying to make himself a powerful body. Just as the force impregnanted Anakin mom, in order to stop Palpatine from his plans.
