A story of how our national anthem came to be.
I was asked by someone to put a video together for this audio and upload it, so here it is. I was never expecting it to get so many views.
Yes, I'm aware some info isn't exactly right. Please stop sending complaints. Like I said before, I was asked to upload it here. You can look up the accurate story if want the precise info.
Here's a link to one of many sources for info on the true story: tinyurl.com/yb6laets
Hope you enjoy the message of this video though. God Bless America!
P.S: Sorry about the typos in the anthem!
*I don't own the audio or pics and the flag video that I used towards the end belongs to FarWestTexas.

That saying applies to soldiers, but its actually not about soldiers. It's about the common citizens and society in general and the risks that come with freedom. Whether it's having to tolerate a-holes and their obnoxious speech or risk the one-in-a-million mass murderers so everyone citizen can be armed to check their government's tyranny to being personally financially responsible instead of being owned through government welfare disbursements, freedom comes with the cost of risk and annoyance that we all must bear. the second we start prioritizing convenience and safety, freedom vanishes.

@dalehammers4425
@dalehammers4425 2 года назад
Exactly, we pledge to an idea, we do not hold (at least arent supposed to) any person greater than anyone else, its why Washington set up a Presidency instead of a Kingdom. Washington could have made us any form of government he wanted, he chose President like the president of a club, something innocent but just gave direction. The position has been greatly perverted over the years.

Well, that explains a lot. I knew their flag and anthem were the cornerstones of their nation and beliefs but never knew why until now. Very moving and inspiring to me. I see it as a short documentary about the birth of arguably the mightiest nation on earth. One quote stood out for me "better to die on one's feet than live on one's knees". It took almost 8.5 years to achieve and they have grown from 13 to 50 states when Hawaii became a state in 1959. I am sure the men who kept that flag flying would be extremely proud of the achievements they started with their sacrifice and bravery. Many more have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep that flag flying still. To them and their families I say thank you, well done, and r.i.p.

From Wikipedia : _"He took part in the July 18, 1863, assault on Fort Wagner in Charleston, South Carolina. His actions there ultimately earned him the Medal of Honor. When the color guard was killed, Carney retrieved the U.S. flag and marched forward with it, despite serious wounds. When the Union troops were forced to retreat under fire, he struggled back across the battlefield (he was shot in both his right arm and leg as well as his chest, with the last shot fired barely hitting his head), and, eventually returning to his own lines and turning over the colors to another survivor of the 54th, saying, "Boys, I only did my duty; the old flag never touched the ground!"_ if you want to know more, educate yourself. if you want to know less, then keep doing what you're doing. and to cut you off before you start waving your flag around, pointing and calling me various names... i served my country. did almost 2 full tours in SE asia. two purple hearts, was recommended for a bronze star but did not receive. so with all that said, who is the troll here?

There were native Americans, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Nordic, Russian, and Dutch people already here. And let’s not forget that continent of Africa and the cowboys down in Texas and Arizona (Mexican) that definitely had migrated east by that point. It was founded, probably, on paper by a very specific group, but America was already getting very diverse… even if it didn’t know it.

Hello Gitana. I grew up in Maryland and frequently went into Baltimore to see Fort McHenry. My dad was a School Bus driver for 40 years and drove countless school kids to the Fort. It's a National Historic Site and has a cadre of Park Rangers who are walking historians of the Battle of Baltimore. The British Navy was only HALF of the battle. The British Army first attacked the city by land. So, this was a LAND AND SEA ATTACK. The American Army met them in the field near North Point. A sniper shot and killed the British General early in the battle, which disrupted their command and control enough for the Americans to press that advantage and win. Baltimore was the 3rd largest city in America back then and was considered a greater prize than even Washinton D.C. Baltimore and Chesapeake Bay ship builders were the main target of the assault. It was the privateers (Baltimore Clippers) built there were the scourge of the British merchant fleet. The privateers held Lette4rs of Marque from the President and/or the Governor of Maryland. But, the British labeled them as pirates and were determined to "destroy that nest of pirates called, Baltimore". I've attached three links that provide short videos on the Fort, itself, the Battle of Baltimore, and a working replica of a Baltimore Clipper of the 1812 era. Now back when this happened, the first time, the British were the most powerful military in the world. And many don’t know this, but the first time they came, it was the armed citizens who won that battle. They wanted our guns, and we said no way. This is why we have that right today. To protect us against any tyrannical government. I am glad we are now friends, even though most Brits still do not understand why we hold our guns so dear. I will give you a stat that nobody will bother with. There are three times more people killed in the USA every year, by drunk drivers, than by guns, yet no restrictions on alcohol other than you need to be 21. No background checks. They say they want to save lives, well why start with guns? They want us unarmed so they can rule over us like kings. Never going to happen. We are a safe country.

When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and thrust us into WW2, they wouldn't dare try and invade America by land because they said: "there would be an armed American behind every blade of grass". The demonRATS want to take our guns so they can have absolute power and control us. Never, ever, ever give up your guns and if they try to make you register every kind of firearm, don't do it. Yes, it made us who we are and has allow us as humans to appreciate all people. Please continue to provide great commentary I'm here for it.

Thank you so much for the respect for our anthem and the flag. Freedom had a price and only a few were willing to pay the price. Many had have paid the price since and still do to this day. Now you know why ever every true American hold the flag in such high regard. Some of our younger generation haven't learned yet the cost of freedom, but you never know when that lesson mighty be just around the corner. Thank you again for the respect for our anthem and the flag. I wish well in every endeavor of life and may god bless you along the way. Joe

However , to our younger generation please remember that as though our two countries started out as adversaries we are now the best of allies so please don't let this very true and touching video give you bad feelings because now whether American or Brit we will always come to each others aid when needed !

I'm a 67 year old American and I saw this video last year for the first time. It really did explain very vividly the meaning of the song and I am so moved every time I see it. Today it reminds me of how the Ukrainians are keeping their own flag flying against all odds. We must all stand together and continue to fight for freedom throughout the world, esp. for the brave people of Ukraine.

I just watched this for the first time...... I am an American, and a veteran. I couldn't help myself, it was instinct... Once the song began playing, I stood at Attention and saluted till it was over. My 2 children, not understanding, did the same and asked me why afterward.... I was so proud to explain our history to them, and to show them the proper way to respect our flag and anthem... I would not have gotten that opportunity if it wasn't for you uploading this. I'm sorry to say that we are too used to our freedoms here, and rarely get chances to teach our origins here... Thanks for being who you are! Aside from this post, my wife and I have been fans for quite awhile! You really help us when we're down, so we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

I first heard this a year or two ago. I've recommended it to others. It makes everything so much more personal. Being raised by patriotic parents, I had plenty of opportunities to learn about patriotism as a child. Putting the flag on display on our home was a particular honor to me. It made me feel connected to our land and to it's people. I remember remarking to my father ( former US Navy) "It's a pretty flag isn't it?". To which he replied "Yes, son it's the prettiest flag I know". On a different note, I have great respect and admiration for the people of Great Britain. The early Americans were former British citizens. At least the founding fathers were. But regardless all other allegiances we're laid down to give full measure of devotion to the new mother country. So glad you watched and found it a worthwhile experience. Loved your reaction. Mine was similar as usual. Peace!

I've seen that video many many times...and it gets me every time. To know what our founders went through for freedom. It truly puts things in perspective. The following is an inscription on a memorial stone that commemorates the sacrifice our forefathers made. "BY SIGNING THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE THE FIFTY-SIX AMERICANS PLEDGED THEIR LIVES THEIR FORTUNES AND THEIR SACRED HONOR. IT WAS NO IDLE PLEDGE NINE SIGNERS DIED OF WOUNDS DURING THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR FIVE WERE CAPTURED OR IMPRISONED. WIVES AND CHILDREN WERE KILLED, JAILED, MISTREATED OR LEFT PENNILESS. TWELVE SIGNERS HOUSES WERE BURNED TO THE GROUND.. SEVENTEEN LOST EVERYTHING THEY OWNED. NO SIGNER DEFECTED THEIR HONOR LIKE THEIR NATION, REMAINED INTACT."
@dalehammers4425
@dalehammers4425 2 года назад
Signing that document was an act of high treason, they knew if they lost the war they would all be killed to the last. There was no backing down, they fought with everything they had, literally for everything they had.

the original video is horribly inaccurate. and i personally think the misrepresentations that are made takes away from the true story of the valor, deeds, and capabilities of those early americans that fought so hard for what they believed in.

I was in Baltimore 2 weeks ago for a conference. My cousin lives about an hour away from the city, so she came to visit and spend a day with me. We visited Ft. McHenry. I learned a lot about the fort's involvement in the War of 1812, and the Star Spangled Banner. Very sobering. Yes this recording has several historical inaccuracies, but it's part of our lore. Just like all things in the world we have developed a lore of our history too. Very powerful. Thanks for reacting to this, and celebrating our Independence Day with us.

Despite of my country's shortcomings, we recognize the importance of the bond that exists between us... We've fought side by side through dark times in this world.. our spilled with yours on battlefields of old... We face an uncertain global future, but if we focus on learning from bad decisions and loyalty remains intact, I hope we stand strong ...the first Americans came to the new frontier seeking freedom to worship God...And right about now, I hope and pray our countries acknowledge that He is what we need, and not wait until He is all we have left...God bless America and Great Britain!! They came to the colonies to practice their own form of religion, free from the doctrines of the Church of England. It's not they couldn't still worship God if they remained in England, it's that they were persecuted for not adhering to the doctrine of the Church of England.

As many of my fellow Vets have said, this is why there are so many traditions when it comes to displaying and even lowering and raising our flag. And it’s part of the reason if a flag touches the ground it is retired in a ceremony and never flown again.

Already having fun! Watch out for falling objects! You're the Brit that we love! And yes, you are our favorite Brit. I don't think we'll ever have to worry about our two countries going to war against each other again. Not only do we have too many close ties but we need each other as allies. There are just too many potential enemies to our countries to risk not being allied. My understanding is that there are some inaccuracies in this video but I'll leave the correcting of them to others who know more than me about history. Love y'all very much!

No Brits living now have any responsibility for our past history. After a couple of wars: The Revolutionary War and The War of 1812, the question was finally resolved, and the Brits left our shores. Since then we have forged an unbreakable (I hope) Bond of shared values and shared heritage which binds us as family. This was very much in evidence during WWII, and the special affection and admiration Americans had for the inestimable Winston Churchill!

I've seen it several times. You were right about the second invasion of our country although the war of 1812 was an invasion of a newly sovereign nation and was largely to decide if the US could keep the British from impressing our sailors into British service. I don't know anyone with any hard feelings about the war. We have had a few weeks to get over it.
