A compilation of clips from The Paramount Film, 'Star Spangled Girl' from 1971. Also features the film version of 'Girl by Davy Jones' my personal favourite version! Should have been a single!
This offbeat movie is stuck in my memories for some reason. I was 7 when it was released though I only remember seeing it on TV. Being so young I don't know why it draws my interest. Sandy Duncan was always a cutie.
It's very interesting both to find out about this movie as well as to find out how Davy jones song of Girl came out with this movie and before it was on The Brady Bunch
Sandy Duncan is from Tyler, Texas and so am I. I saw this movie at one of the theaters in Tyler when it first came out when I was 11 years old. I thought she was the biggest movie star ever since she was from Tyler.
"GIRL" was written in 1971 by Songwriter Hall Of Fame inductees Norman Gimbel & Charles Fox, who, the following year, would write both "Killing Me Softly" for Roberta Flack and "I Got A Name" for Jim Croce.
This was such a fun movie. I remember going to see it with my mother when I was10 or 11. And the theme song has stayed with me all these years and is still up there with my all time favorite songs. It just makes me smile when I hear it. Thank you for posting this. Do you know if there is a dvd out of this. I have the vhs tape, but would like something a little more enduring.
My grandmother took my brother and I to see this in New Orleans when it debuted. She also took us to see Dirty Harry that same year. Yes, it does indeed trigger some sweet mems.
@woobeesandme It's a great song isn't it! First heard it on the Brady Bunch researched it a little and found that it was written for the Paramount Film 'Star Spangled Girl'. Went to paramount studios in the summer in Hollywood and asked them about the film by interest, and funnily enough they hadn't heard of it, obviously not one of their biggest sales. However yes there is a DVD of the film, I have got it, think it is still available on Amazon. Well worth getting, just for the soundtrack! Haha
