I loved this character right from the first: "I get to make a SUPERNOVA! Today ROCKS!" Was really glad they did her and Tillys back story in Short Treks.
modern ice cream become a thing for most people after refrigerator become available to everyone, and given that Terran empire established at least before 20th century,I'd say whoever invented modern refrigerator in prime universe didn't live to get it out in the parallel universe. A tragedy indeed.
I just love much Pike takes this in his stride - no being indignant after being initially ignored by a planet monarch in favour of an ensign, like you can imagine Picard being like, he’s just ‘oh okay she’s clearly very fond of Tilly I’ll step back and let her handle this until it’s right for me to take over’, and then he completely wins her over with his respect. I love we got to see more of Pike in his element here.
So she works out how to charge up a Time Crystal while eating ice cream minutes after finding out that someone built a Time Suit. Snarks to Georgiou that nobody on her planet is allowed to snark at her as the Queen-an actual law she's created. Then declares that today rocks because she's worked out how to create a Supernova safely. I like her.
Plus her race is just badass, being able to sort-of-shroud like a Jem'Hadar and having a slight electrical field that lets them essentially be short-range Technopaths.
When an unreformed Space Hitler is the most compelling character on your show, you may have made a mistake. Particularly given that I am a communist who genuinely believes fascists should be met with instant and extreme violence. I still thought Space Hitler was the best character on the show, just because of how good she was at inspiring the hatred such people deserve irl.
I used to translate for the Regal Matriarch & Regal Patriarch Houses, & the VisA Chieftain groups as a kid, of HI indigenous; all three are possibles & are the most common poetic puzzles of many tongues of the many islands, so while I forget much, I am not surprised, as a former smart-guy on this, I didn't look it up, but I can glean my memory in a sec; a three are possible, but mean the same thing, in context; A similar name of a Queen is Elizabeth II, whose name represents the success following law & science in faith of our Creation yields for everyone, not just the leader & their people, and even more about how to discuss the issues not fight over them unless it is the clear question, are you saying its a lie or not. :::I would say, and I submitted the translated Pidgeon HI Bible for Google as the first project of google translate, as a gift, partially done, no one finished it yet; best school in Northern middle China, ran by Italian-Chinese who were protected by HI indigenous since 1810~ish, (if it matters for anyone's job or stuff) and moved back to China...I would say it is Mostly like Names of Chieftains that are supposed to be taken as statements made by the monarch to the people they lead, both from their home & as a traveling scholar: Me (of all) Hani (of you) Ika (wouldn't I say to you) Hali (the best things) Ka (are to follow from the source/foundation/truth) Po (and answer yourself - the question that the Houses have already answered; that the great spirits of animus, even the White Mother, honor the Creator of the Christian's great Lover, whose mother called him Jesus) Not to be unpopular, but the dates of Western contact to HI are already proven inaccurate, but if you read closely, they represent the date a Captain from the West was first Baptized, as a church goer, but by the VisA Chiefs, the least houses. Several Patriarch & Matriarch nobles at that time began teaching as young adults in Venice schools, all, women & men, -MEANING they were already in Europe & had declared jobs & godschildren, normally which takes 6 generations of conversation to work-out- as priests of similar faith denomination to Catholicism, but closer to Baptists, & had family records of the same much older than incorrect popular dates for First Contact, & scholarly strong suspicion of another similar forgetful period of great migration, through cities that all had names starting with the letter A & distinct grammar variations identical to the VisA Chiefs; the laws of which together were called Atlantis (not a real place, but forgetting a court system that already worked great for a bigger picture) Generically, I would say its much like saying, "Stop Beating yourself up over What is the Perfect life to choose, the Leaders will not beat you for it; trust science & testimony of the teachers that became the guardians of Old World Monarchs long ago, & choose" That's much what Stop Fishing Wrongly in the Dark means, as with Its Worth the War (Matriarch tongue), "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," was the in context chosen meaning of the similar poetic verse, specifically while leaders need to lead with the experience of admirals themselves, not just priests & politicians, to honor the dialogues of European monarchs & chieftains of HI that agreed they had a story with a rainbow as a promise, where all of mankind split from one family after a great flood, and many other similarly detailed but broad versions of the Messiack Hebrew traditions of Regal Samaria, often found most strongly in Venice and Samarkand after 302 AD. O Temple of Sidon, is considered one of the modern works most plainly used in old school anthropology that resonates with this, used by Agnostics & Atheists even more than by inter-faith, as is the same one from 90 BC on economics of multi nationalism that frames much of the world around 0 AD
I know a lot of people don't like this show but I loved it. Especially when I get to see a scene like this! THank god it is on Netflix in Japan. THank you!!!
It doesn't make sense to me that people comment on Discovery and pour out their hatred whereas they could easily avoid watching these clips. I don't like Star Wars at all but I never join their conversation to spit out my disgust in the comments. I just never watch their trailers. Simple.
@@solar2607sometimes this shit just happens and I randomly click on this shit and I end up watching one of the worst star trek scenes I've ever seen. It's the worst the CW has to offer with a nice spoonful of 2015 RU-vid parody quality, a pinch of SNL random visual effects to simulate quality (it doesn't work) and some AWFUL teenager Mary sue self insert cringe as a cherry on top. The dialogue makes me barf in my mouth. "She is calculating the blablablabla. E=MC2 stuff"?!?!? Can you sound any more DUMBER? CONDESCENDINGLY DUMB. It's like everyone in the room is braindead but the writers are even dumber, so they can't even come up with ANY meaningful scientific jargon for the layman, they go with E=MC2 like it's a fkn cartoon show for children ages 6 to 12. Oh and can't forget the obvious wokeness. I don't anything about this shitshow but I can tell from just this scene that the men...they don't do shit and are not the focus of the show. Especially the white straight man...oh boy, I can already imagine the neverending tirades he endures in the show, just for him to just stay silent because he can't say anything because of his white male guilt and all the women makingv TOO MUCH SENSE, if ONLY the system wasn't so rigged, women would dominate EVERYTHING!! HAHAHAH 😂 These trash shows write themselves. They are all the same low quality, bad effects, LOTS of talking because of the budget and LOTS of women, women talking, talking about how much of a victim they, but STILL strong and independent and they need to man ... Even though they are always a victim and men put them down...even though they are better at everything and beat them at everything, especially physical stuff...yet they are victims... And all the AMAZING political parallels they are gonna have, thought provoking stuff like... Orange man bad...or... Trump is bad or.... America is bad..or capitalism BAD...communism good. You know, blurring the lines, having a thought provoking conversation between ideals, grey lines, the world ain't black and white 🤣 How do these shows even manage to stay on the air is beyond me. I mean, the budget is nonexistent because the people making this trash are ideological cultists that don't sell but someone has to keep funding this shit. Commies don't care about money, the important part is not a good story, a good show and in turn making money, the goal is 🌈 THE MESSAGE 🌈
I love Po and the concept of what if a Pacific Islander style culture became the dominant one? By being skilled navigators and astronomers, inventors and later engineers, they become the developers of a method of re-crystalizing and re-energizing dilithium, making themselves indispensible and warp drive a financial practicality.
@@duffbeer989 Gotta have dairy animals with a suitable amount of dairy fat and lactose. An Oceanic culture may not have that. The Chinese had very little use for dairy until long term contact with Europeans. Before that butter was used as a wound dressing. Europe existed for centuries without processed cane sugar or chocolate. When they did get it they put sugar in everything and were clueless as to what to do with chocolate except as the Aztecs did, as thick, bitter drink. Taste evolves and as one TV show once mentioned, the West thought "Chop Suey" was the national dish of China until it was pointed out it was just a local name for "leftovers"
I beg to differ. As one of the “Pacific Islanders,” even if our culture became a “dominant one,” there would be no foreseeable reason to advance our culture and technology beyond mere fishing and gathering of food. With arguably unlimited resources, no reason to expand exists.
I like how Michael reacts to Po’s comment about being shorter than her photos. It’s like she’s impressed that the Queen knows about her by Tilly. But is a little disappointed that the queen thinks she’s short. Kinda like a complementary insult.
I actually wonder if she was confused about the comment about her height itself or about the fact that there are photos - which I guess Tilly made and sent Po without Burnham knowing
1.) I get the impression that Her Serene Majesty's not very big on formality. 2.)I also get the impression that,if this was the Mirror Universe,Georgiou would be Po's....woman.
@@catman351 I have to disagree, Mirror Po would likely be every bit as smart as this Po but she would otherwise be a completely different person, like Georgiou. More likely Georgiou would have Po on whatever passed for her Council of Advisors, with a behind-closed-doors understanding that Po is on the Council because she and her tech ability are indispensable. Nobody else has ever been able to do what Po has, so I think even the Empress would have had to buy her good will.
You forgot her quote about the ice cream. That is one of the things about making her rocking day. After all, “She’s all about the sugar,” according to Tilly.
The first season is a bit awkward to say the least at least in the first 6 or so episodes but it does improve as the season goes on but the 2nd season oh it feels like your in jacuzzi in comparison
I'm so glad to have Anson Mount as Pike - he plays it soo well - a very welcome refresher after being introduced to him in the abysmally trash INHUMANS show
Po: "one of the fun things about becoming Queen of the most politically relevant planet in the galaxy, is that I don't have to listen to any snark, I made it an actual law." Georgiou: "what?"
Star Trek: Discovery was NOT the show I personally wanted to see, but it is moments like this that make me want to revisit the second season with fresh and unbiased eyes. No show is perfect, but all of the characters featured in this clip were interesting in their own respective ways, and not so stiff. Special mention to Jet, Tilly, Georgiou, and Po - any of those ladies would make for a great shuttlecraft companion on a long stretch of space travel.
Please watch it, It was great. The fans hated it because it's not "their" star trek. I literally have a friend that got 4 episodes in and never watched it again, but saw a trailer for the Picard series and is N64 kid excited. But it's good, nay, it's great.
@@marcussavina2726 TBH, all the people bitching about it being "woke" are morons. ST literally always HAS been about Diversity, understanding, and exploration, both out there, and of yourself. Discovery and Picard fall short due to WRITING, and even then, it's not as bad as a fair amount of episodes in EVERY previous Star Trek.
I thought Jet was going to be insanely annoying when she was introduced but damn she was one of the best characters. Her completely sarcastic and yet still somehow friendly tone is utterly perfect.
People say the show's crap. Come on, there's ice cream, a royal that doesn't give a crap, and mom that does her best to protect her daughter and galaxy
I got over it eventually. Once I got used to the shaved, gerbil-headed (not) Klingons and a starship that looked like a D7 humped a pizza cutter it's actually a fun show to watch! ☺👍👍
The storyline made sense enough to me and I loved the ending episodes battles .. kinda reminded me of B5 & BSG. The only (big!) negative for me and it put me off more than once is Michael Burnham. She spends way too much time in too many episodes with wide tear filled quivering eyes. That was very annoying!
What an incredibly fun scene, i fell in love with Po almost instantly. STD is on its way to having the most unforgettable and fleshed out characters that I have ever seen in Star Trek. Thank You!
@@ericevans9186 the writing sucks. apart from that, it's literally exactly what Star Trek's always been, Diversity, understanding, and exploration. Anyone who's claiming Picard and Discovery are "Woke" literally need to rewatch EVERY ST series to date.
she was so teenager ... with a hit of adult ... she understood she can act like a kid BUT she must have her mind on the people ... the better they are looked after the more time you have to enjoy .
We rescued a dog, and she was a little aggressive. The name she came with just didn't suit her. We were thinking up names and the scene where Po saw Tilly in the transporter room came into my mind. I said, imitating Po's voice, "Tilly!". The dog leapt up and came to me, jumped up, and licked my face. Tilly it is. But here's the thing. Now she isn't an aggressive dog at all! She's a total sweetie. I'm convinced, it was the name. Now she's a Tilly.
I'm glad that Po doesn't know how evil and what a dragon the former mirror universe Imperator Philippa Georgiou actually still could be at this stage of her personal development and what history she actually had.
@@kotk05 I think because the personality reminds me of an idealistic Luxona Troi which was all Majel Barrett who was the stars ans moon to Roddenberry. She's playful but still vicious and definitely in charge.
Everyone hatin' on Discovery just shows the bias in everyone. Just because she's black or trying to do all that she can to save everyone but fucked up is what made her a more likable character for me. Plus she's a human raised as a Vulcan. Also Capt. Pike is so casual and cool not like the other stiff captains.
@@ladyhm.6748 True, but it's the Writing that sucks, not the fact that they have openly gay, Non-Binary, and so on characters. Star Trek from its inception has always been about Diversity, Acceptance, and Exploration of both yourself and what's out there. TOS had a Russian, Black Woman and Oriental man as main characters. TNG had a blind man, an android trying to become human, a socially awkward genius, a War Veteran and so on. Every Trek, even DS9 with its Darker tone, stands as an example of what we could be, and to tell people that it's okay to be different.
