My kindred spirit. I'm a total simp for my wife. I worship the ground she walks on. (It helps that she had a very rough upbringing and really appreciates being appreciated.)
@@samsignorelli That would be a little difficult to get the likeness of the Rutherford character to match the voice actor. They did a good job with Newsome and Quaid as Boimler and Mariner and Noël Wells would certainly do well as Tendi. But Eugene Cordero's physical structural likeness would be the most difficult.
1:30 honestly I love the Orion captain’s reaction. It feels like he was playing into his own stereotype because thats what everyone expected of him. He looks so grateful to be given the opportunity to break out of that stereotype.
remember in Orion society the men are the real slaves, the so called Orion slave girls rule with their pheromones and pretend to be slaves to lower alien males defences So as an Orion male he's probably spent his life being told what to do by women using chemaicls to enforce their will on him regardless of his personal desires!
I LOVE the ending! The writers KNEW we would want to see the SNW crew in animation form so instead of going through a weird nebula or some other sci-fi thingy, they thought "Everyone gets drunk and sees things in cartoon" LOL
This implies that the crew of the Cerritos (maybe even everyone in the 24th century) is constantly trashed on alien liquor 😂😂 my new favorite headcannon
I just loved the Orions in this episode, they played the part of pirates but the second that Pike said that they were scientists the captain looked so thankful for it
They really didnt play part of pirates, first encounter Pike armed his weapons and was ready to fire at any second, what did they do? warp the hell out of there for their safety, next encounter they wanted to show a sign of trust and traded which is a major sign of peace for orions. This encounter they were simply called there and accepted their message. Over all they were playing tough out of fear, think about people attacking you base on your race thinking your a savage. While in reality your a big nerd who just wants to study plants and animals. they were just acting carful out of safety.
In Star Trek Enterprise, it was alluded that the Orion females control the males with their pheromones; which is why the males did most if not all of the work. I wondered how Tendi controlled hers without controlling the males on the USS Cerritos?
Why? They'd have to let them out of the loonie-bin first because they had to be nuts to come up with this. I didn't say 'unsuccessful' mind you, just nuts.
@@skoshman1 you're making the old mistake of confusing insanity of creativity (although "let's make a crossover between two shows that are both in the same franchise" doesn't a lot of creativity; the execution does). Also crazier things happened before.
I just love that last smile Pike gives to Boimler before he leaves. It's like: "You were an annoying problem to solve and a potential danger to space and time as we know it, but you know what, I didn't mind YOU so much as a person. You're alright kid." was communicated in that one expression.
@@thesidneychan Yes. The inside joke for most of the pre-internet knowing about the Original Series called it "TOS" to distinguish it from TNG on including DS9, VOY, and later DSC, PIC, and SNW. The meta joke in this episode is winking at TOS by saying "Those Old Scientists" because the cast of the Cerritos in LD had kept referring to the "TOS" period. Eventually, as seen here, Mariner and Boimler finally talk about it many episodes later.
@@bigpoppa1234 He Also plays in the Expanse ...a martien name Lopez....small role but i liked him...wish he had more. Was happy to see him in Star Trek
@@tranz2deep She said something similar to that to Paris in, if memory serves, "Parallax". I want to say her expression was: "One of the more difficult concepts to grasp with time travel is that sometimes effect precedes cause."
I love this scene so much and love how much Boimler and Mariner were trying so hard to protect Tendi's ancestor while also using Tendi's given title to make the Orions trust them.
Spoilers for the end of season 4: If they do another crossover and bring in Tendi, I'd love to see her meet her great grandmother. The poor woman will not be happy to see her family turning into the pirates she wanted to prove her people are better than.
I really do love how Boimler and Mariner have the same (or better) chemistry in this episode! The translation from animation to live action was flawless. I know it would have been gimmicky but I would've loved to see Captain Freeman or Rutherford and Tendi irl too 😍
*@blueskybelyr --* As I Replied on another Comment, some live-play translations between LD-animation would be easy; while others, far more difficult... *;)* 1.) *_Eugene Cordero_* could _easily_ live-played Samathan Rutherford. Whether they would use a physical prothesis for Rutherford's cybernetic implant (a la Jeri Ryan, aka Seven of Nine) or CG-animate it in, is debatable. 2.) *_Noel Wells_* would have be far more difficult for live-play portrayal, because while D'Vana Tendi is as animated as close to Wells in Real Life as possible, Wells is *NOT* Tendi's (animated) height and build; so what would have be a needlessly complicated (physical) portrayal issue. 3.) *_Dawnn Lewis_* live-playing Captain Carol Freeman is also more nebulous. Like [Wells &Tendi], Captain Freeman is also broadly animated as close to Lewis as possible. But like [Wells & Tendi], Lewis does not match Captain Freeman for height in terms animation vs. Real Life; though I am certain Lewis does have the same (physical) build as Captain Freeman, but definitely not the hairstyle (though that is far more solvable, of course).
@@pendrake40 None of that matters. Ransom and Shaxs are shown to be considerably taller than Boimler and Mariner, whose actors are 6'0 and 5'9 respectively. That would make half the bridge crew about 8 feet tall. Some wiggle room in canon is permitted for fun purposes.
Rutherford's, "They seemed nice!" gets me every time. He could see who they were, knew who they were, knew what they were like, but still didn't make any snap, on-the-spot judgements. :D Actually, it's a toss up between Rutherford, Mbenga's, "What the hell is in these things?", and Spock's calm, matter of fact, "My arm's don't normally do this!" All perfect on point for their character, all utterly on point for the scene.
When season 1 of Lower Decks aired I immediately said that it's going to be a classic. And the more the show progresses the more I feel right about my initial statement. Very, very, well done.
I can't stop rewatching this. As funny as it is, it's such a heartwarming story. All of Pikes subtle smiles for Boimler just shows how he knows things like Spock wishing Boimler to live long and prosper is something g Boimler has only dreamt of. The Enterprise crew also got so.ething from the visit, knowing they leave a positive impact on the future.
Just love that, no matter when, where or what species is involved, whenever 'mistress of the winter constellation' is mentioned everyone perks up in either astonishment, fear, respect or bit of everything.
I'm going to bet that he is going to mature some what. Remember this is 2380 who knows where he'll be in 20 years if he stays in Starfleet. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing a live action series set in the Picard era Just so we can see where those 2 and the others do wind up
Mariner has the chops to be a captain. That's been stated over and over that everyone in her class expected her to be the 1st 1 to make it instead of Ramsey. Her issue among others is that frankly she doesn't wanna deal with the mickey mouse BS that goes along with the job. Remember her quote. ;" You know what ? I do get off on breaking protocol. I'm good it's always space machines exploring strange new worlds and kicking butt. Protocol is for people who need to be told what to do which I don't " In other words mariner is Kirk like . Because everybody knows James Kirk broke protocol every damn chance he got. The problem is You can't do that in that era of Starfleet.
@@louistaplin4665 Well, that, or she has another reason for wanting to avoid responsibility at all costs. Something that even she might not entirely understand.
This was one of the best crossovers in star trek but i may be a bit biased just because of how much i love both shows ... i really do find it amazing the way they did the animation into live action so easily that it made sense ❤❤... Hope to see more crossovers like this in the future whatever star trek show it comes out of will most definitely love it
Regardless of your bias, your are very much right on this, and as a person new to Startrek thanks to lower decks I can say this was definitely on hell of an episode!
Finally got around to watching this episode. I laughed so hard I had tears. Such a well written show. I love crossovers, especially when the writers can make fun of their own show.
*@pigeonbass11 --* Right..? It would have been even more impressive. But that being said... *;)* 1.) On one hand... *_Eugene Cordero_* could have _easily_ live-played Samathan Rutherford. @@Graniteheart -- That depends upon whether Noel Wells' (D'Vana Tendi) hair is Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) level long, or if Wells is Fisher-level stubborn about said hair(s). *;)* I _(purely speculative)_ think that if Wells height and build were close(r) enough to live-portray Tendi, that Wells probably would have (voluntarily) taken the hairstyle hit and gone with the full Tendi hairstyle-cut & -coloring, in order to bring Tendi onto the live-play screen. And who knows..? With (relatively) successful de-aging technology from *[Captain Marvel (2019) film]* and Fantasy Dwarves from the *[Middle Earth film franchise],* we may see such live-portrayal in future LD-SNW CrossOvers... *:)*
@@pendrake40 Wells would probably need an earlier call for her makeup. All exposed flesh would need to be green unless they are going to CGI her appearance but that will be a first class pain. One thing I found out from Lucifer, is the tracking markers keep falling off, and probably uncomfortable on the face.
Woulda been so dope if they got Wells to be in live action with everyone expecting her to be Tendi…only to instead reveal that she was playing her ancestor.
Does anyone else hope that there will be another crossover episode of some sort which the whole ship and crew on Lower Decks somehow gets sucked into a portal with Strange New Worlds by some sort of stupid move like a rogue Q or time traveler that also some how brings in the Jeri Ryan's Enterprise which all three ships have to work together to stop this rogue Q or some kind of time traveler?
I don't think that'll be as possible since unlike the voice actors for Boimler, Mariner, Tendi, and Rutherford, half the actors don't really look the same as their animated counterparts (mainly Shaxs and Ransom).
Well i most certainly do and considering the success this episode had im sure its very possible although it might not be done the same way in fact it would be so cool if there is a next time for it to be Reversed where the SNW crew crosses over into the LD universe ❤❤
Shame the VAs don't all match their characters. I'd love to see Shax cause mayhem in some fight with the Enterprise crew thinking "noted, all security officers in the future are fucking crazy."
I'd love an episode where Tendi goes back in time and meets her great grandmother. She'd be so disappointed that her family is full of the kinds of criminals her species is stereotyped as.
Even funnier is when you realise that Ransom is voiced by the husband of Rebecca Romijn. I can picture it now: "You'd better say that line calling me hot as if you bloody well mean it, or you're sleeping with the dog tonight."
@JaidRose Yes, but often voice actors are cast for _only_ their voice, they don't actually resemble their characters. Look through the IMBD page of a lot of animated stuff. This was different in that the voice actors were cast as if they were playing live action, or prehaps the animators used the actors as inspiration.
I can't believe I'm going to write this, but could this crossover be an annual tradition? Like the DC crossovers but, y'know, better? I've only seen a few clips and I'm debating signing up for Paramount Plus. Too funny!
Well, her great-grandmother wouldn't necessarily be identical... and also I'm pretty sure she's the woman standing to the Orion captain's right next to the portal.
The four Starfleet personnel in here are all time travelers. Also pointless observation: there's one thing I've realized, the horonium used to return back to the future is the same horonium that activated to drag Boimler to the past, meaning they had enough juice for more trips.
Pike at 1:58 - he's clearly thinking "Please no more" Also props to Babs Olusanmokun for his delivery of the "What the hell is in these things?!" line.
Lower Decks is wonderful. It's got a genuine, sincere love for the franchise amongst all the slapstick comedy antics - the amount of deep-cut references in its jokes is crazy.
@@philiphunn194 Definitely didn't expect to love Lower Decks as much as I did. But it's such a loving parody with a lot of heart while at the same time also being a really good Star Trek show to boot.
You can tell this probably happens in the latest season of Lower Decks, because Ransom at that point is real buddies with Boimler, if not a chummy mentor
definitely happens in the interim between seasons 3 and 4 of Lower Decks. hell, in the trailer for season 4 that was released yesterday, Mariner says to Boimler "this is nothing compared to that thing with Pike that we can't talk about."
@@giftheck yep, it takes place between the visit to DS9(Hear All, Trust Nothing) and the Peanut Hamper centric episode(A Mathematically Perfect Redemption)
Wait hold on does that mean the reason everything is 2d for Mariner, and Boimler cause everyone keeps drinking these Orionhurricane that it fucking with their perception of their surroundings but just don't even question it.
Okay, I see someone wearing a Next Gen VISOR even though La Forge and Doctor Crusher helped to invent ocular implants to replace the VISOR. In the RW LeVar Burton insisted that it was time to lose the item that actually impaired his sight.
1:06 Okay, see, that ship *totally* belongs to Tendi's great-grandma. No way it doesn't. She's just letting the dude pretend to be the captain in classic Orion fashion. That might even be her standing over on his right by the portal. That's why her nickname is basically the password and from that second on the "captain" is totally 100% cooperative and even throws in some nice gifts.
They should do the animated series version of Star Trek: Strange New World because Star Trek: Lower Deck is becoming successful so it wouldn't hurt to do another animated series version of Star Trek.
Honestly, at this point in time, I think Boimler would fit the bill of captain better. Mariner doesn't want big titles, she wouldn't want to climb the ranks as fast, but she would do it to stay besides Boimler. But hey, things can change in future seasons!
@@ChevaliersEmeraude agreed, based on what we have already seen she should at least be a LtCmdr by now based on years of service, she may very well be the oldest Ensign in the fleet.
Brad would be better suited as Captain cause Mariner would prefer being down where the action is, so she'd probably want to be first officer due to having more leeway.
