Since you all seem to really want the 'D', here's how she met her end - before eventually being resurrected during Season 3 of 'Star Trek: Picard'
⚠️ Technical Notes: ⚠️
[ Updated Note: this was done with my previous, flawed workflow - so it's a bit glitchy during quick panning shots ]
I previously uploaded a 2K version converted from the 1080p Blu-Ray, but this is true 4K from the recent re-release - though I have had to step it down from HDR to SDR, and added HFR for clarity
Fun Fact: during the remastering, a scene of the saucer crash was included that hadn't been hit with the Piss-O-Vision / Mexican yellow filter that was applied during theatrical release, so I extended that natural colour timing to the entire sequence... which really shows what we all knew subconsciously: Generation's production team crashed the "D' into a giant model train diorama 🤣

5:52 Since not much is known about the USS Syracuse, I like to think she was one of the Galaxy-class ships that fought in the Dominion war. Could've initiated saucer separation at some point and lost her saucer section in battle. Would be the exact opposite to the D losing her stardrive section. And would feel more poetic when Geordi later joins the D's recovered saucer with the Syracuse's stardrive section. Though Geordi only states the engines and nacelles come from the Syracuse. So not sure about the rest of the stardrive.

When I first saw this in theatres, I immediately thought why didn't they rotate the shields after the 1st shot? Even a 2nd before changing the shield frequency. I know I'm not alone in catching that. With all the Borg centric shows, they came up with that plan to do it in a hurry. Looks great!
@setsuna200
@setsuna200 10 месяцев назад
They could see what Geordi was doing in real time. So if he is changing the frequencies, the Duras can see what he sees. The feed was in real time. So changing the frequencies makes no difference since they didn't know Geordis' visor was broadcasting what he was seeing.

@@NoMoneyG Either that or the deflector getting hit with the _first shot_ screwed the generators. The main deflector's a key part of the shield grid. if that takes substantial damage, it won't work properly and they can't remodulate the shields, so the Duras Whores had to make the first shot count. After all, it wouldn't matter if the second shot hit anything else if they discovered what was going on. Say what you will about the Enterprise-D's crew, they're not _stupid._ And neither were the Duras Sisters.
@AlhazredsGamingGoo
@AlhazredsGamingGoo 7 месяцев назад
@@setsuna200And that's if they even realize that matching the shield frequency was how the Duras sisters were doing it to begin with; Worf doesn't say that, he says they "found a way." So they're kinda double-screwed. What this scene needed was a little more dialog and a couple more exterior shots. The Duras sisters basically do the same thing that Khan did and use the surprise of the first volley to shoot the hell out of engineering, likely screwing up the power grid so the Enterprise can't just fire everything back to get through the bird of prey's shields. Except, Wrath of Khan was smart enough to have that little bit where Spock points out the damage and says "they knew exactly where to hit us" and that the few shots they have won't be enough to get through the Reliant's shields. This is absolutely the intent of this scene, too, because one of the cuts back to the bird of prey has one of the Klingons tell the Duras sisters "our shields are holding," so the Enterprise actually is firing more than the single phaser shot we saw, but can't fire enough to get through.

Considering all the damage the saucer section received during the crash and that it was deemed unsalvageable, I'd say it is quite a miracle that Geordi was able to restore it in the first place. An overlooked detail in Ep. 9 / Ep. 10 of Picard Season 3 is that the saucer is still somewhat scorched along the leading edge - but you really need to watch the HDR editions (only available on the P+ service unless you pirate them, which I may or may not have done) to catch that subtle continuity nod

@IsilmeTuruphant

@@bengoulbourn3985 It's even in the original TNG manual. 10 torpedoes at once, multiple phase banks firing. A single sustained burst from ONE main phase bank of a Galaxy-class has been shown to be enough to damage a Galor-class warship's weapon systems while it's shields were UP. Are we to believe a 30 year old Bird of Prey is that much tankier? I understand why they wanted to do the saucer crash, but they did a terrible job of justifying it. It just makes the crew seem incompetent and unwilling to try and save the ship.

more the bird of prey basically got the stars lineup for them to make a fatal blow before they themselves were destroyed. There were two ways this whole situation could have been handled better. Granted, the Bird Of Prey could get in one or two free shots once they knew the shield frequency, but Riker could've easily just rotated the frequency. Secondly, once the warp core coolant leaked, they could've just jettisoned the core. I get that they wanted an excuse to destroy the Enterprise-D because it didn't translate well to the big screen, but still, the writers could've done better.
@SuperGamefreak18
@SuperGamefreak18 12 дней назад
agreed like there was a throw away reference right before the firefight that the galaxy's famous core issues were acting up but it should have been a bit more obvious. Like right after they escaped the ribbon the enterprise was acting up, something minor but could be discarded because their was bigger priorities at the moment, or wasnt something that would have been a deadly problem at the time. THEN the precised shots they managed to sneak in before Riker regained control should have been the issue that made things worse which they only actually noticed AFTER the bird of prey was destroyed, but by then it was too late. You know the equivalent of something with a wound making it worse or even fatal with heavy activity cause they are still on the job and saw it as something they would have to take care of later

When Sisko ordered photon torpedo launchers to fire on the Klingon ships, you can see Bird of Preys with shields up (I am sure they didn't go in battle with no shields up) getting blown up by only 1 photon torpedo, not 1 quantum torpedo. So to say here that I need to Fire 3 photon torpedoes, it should be reasonably enough. FYI - It took 5 torpedoes to destroy Chang's Bird of Prey in Star Trek VI, the Undiscovered Country, but that was another time period where the Bird of Prey shield strength and torpedo yield are different.

Geordi probably preferred the TV look and restored the bridge back to that version for nostalgia sake. @twocvbloke
@twocvbloke Год назад
None needed really, the restored bridge in STP was the "in service" look (from Encounter at Farpoint to All Good Things), the Generations bridge was a bit of laziness in that the All Good Things future "Galaxy-X" refit bridge was left in place as filming of Generations took place in little over a week after they wrapped AGT, but they made look like they had mildly refitted the then-current D bridge, and of course needed "moar consoles, moar awesome!" for the big screen, they destroyed the D because they assumed it "wouldn't look good" in cinemas, yet, the rebuilt bridge in 4k in Picard, plus the Enterprise saucer coupled with a new(ish) stardrive section, it was just so damned beautiful, berman & braga took us away from our home, but Matalas brought us back again...

@@Estes705 Obviously you are a bit slow so I will try to explain. When it comes to videos the audio usually is a compressed format like mp4/3 at 48 kHz rate. That means that you have to lower the quality of the video to a terrible point to affect the audio in a way you would notice right away without comparing it to the original. Scaling the video down to a lower resolution is usually what happens when a video looses quality. So when you edit a video you get one video channel and one audio channel. That's it. So you have no control over how loud the music is going to be. You can try mixing techniques or plug-ins to make the speech more audible but that's beyond what most editing softwares can do. That being said there is nothing that could be done to make the music more quiet and it's most likely as loud as in the original series at best quality.

Lursa and Bator taking out the D... yeah, kind of weak. Also, there's a gross level of incompetence of several officers here: Worf, head of security, allowed a surveillance device onto the ship. Really, Geordi and Beverly should have analyzed the VISOR and found this. Deanna manages to crash the saucer onto a planet... this almost has to be deliberate because obviously staying in space would have been better. But unless the ship was *ridiculously close* to the planet, it should have taken hours to days to get there. It took the Apollo spacecraft a couple days to get to the moon. Sure, the saucer can go much faster, but why would she aim for the planet? (Though, maybe it's standard procedure... I dunno.) But yes Beverly should have analyzed geordi's visor either one of them should have before then. honestly form my understand its standard procedure because of what could happen in space...in theory being in space is better but it was likely to crash into something, the shockwave would have caused the saucer to lose control, so its better to crash land it onto a planet with breathable atmosphere than risk it drifting off into who knows what. Meh, I didn't like the E. I mean, it's a fine ship in and of itself, but it's also a warship. I do buy that Starfleet would do it because of the threats of the Borg and the Dominion, but I still find it depressing. It was ok for First Contact but I think it was way out of place in Insurrection. In Insurrection, I felt like I kept wondering where the Enterprise is. And don't get me started on that joystick 😂 Thing is, Starfleet going from that luxury cruise liner D to the menacing warship E might appear to show strength, but it actually is a sign of how much the Borg invasion and Dominion war damaged the Federation.
