I would recommend consulting Memory Alpha about all the Easter eggs, since it would rake a LONG time to mention them all. This is one of the most Easter egg-filled eps of the show to date.
It is pretty amazing how effortless T'Lyn slots into the group dynamic. As much as I loved T'Lyn in wej Duj, I wasn't sure how her "Vulcan Renegade" nature would play in a ship that wasn't full of Vulcans. As soon as I saw this episode, I knew I was worrying for no reason.
I reckon T'Lyn's captain got this right: she's exposed to others like herself; restless and creative. She knows of Spock's suggestion that logic is the beginning, not the end of knowledge / wisdom ( i forget ), so I expect she's about to become a person better than the worst of Vulcans ( recently seen on TV ), and can find a new way.
I wanted vulcan Mariner back and here she is. So much fun is waiting. She fits so well with the rest...her reaction to Tendi's enthusiasm alone is great
When you watch Voyager, episodes to watch out for that tie into this: 1x16 Learning Curve 2x15 Threshold 2x23 The Thaw 3x12 Macrocosm 5x01 Night 5x12 Bride of Chaotica 6x11 Fair Haven And of course, 2x24 Tuvix (And more I'm sure)
I watch a lot of reaction channels, and was thinking last night of how fake so many of them look with their thumbnail being them open mouth jaw agape. I thought nobody irl actually makes those faces. But I'll be honest, as you made that face I remembered that I made that face too the first time I saw it lol such an out of nowhere upping the heat. Can't wait for season 5. Love your passiong, see you next time
I think the interaction between T’Lynn and Brad was a callback to Enterprise and T’Pol and Trip’s romance. Those two started with T’Pol complaining about Trips stench. Which turned out to be T’Pol’s flirtatious way of saying “you are a hot hoo-man!”
Awesome uniform! Janeway's handling of the Tuvix situation is quite possibly the most controversial moment of Voy for the fans & you still get plenty of debate over whether what she did was right or not. I like that this episode, despite having them calling it murder for comedic effect, I think ultimately condones her actions by saying basically "the standard a captain is held to when isolated from the rest of the input and resources of the Federation & Starfleet is different than what a captain would be expected to do with all those things available." #JusticeforJaneway! I loved the Mariner and Boimler character growths, especially how Boimler fumbling so much ala S1!Boimler just felt *wrong* now that we've seen how much he's matured and developed as an officer. Heck, I even like how much Ransom has grown from how he was introduced as just an arrogant, ignorant meathead! That's how you know it's a great show- when even the minor characters get little chances to shine and improve. Also love the shout out to the crossover episode with Strange New Worlds! This episode was absolutely packed but so great!
The SNW crossover took place during the downtime between S3 ans S4 of LD, so Boimler got the "fake it til you make it" advice from Pelia (Carol Kane's character) to reinforce the Bold Boimler characterization.
For when you've caught up with this season, this is a great interview with T'Lyn's voice actor Gabrielle Ruiz, in which she talks about growing up watching 'Star Trek: Voyager' with her mother, and feeling as if Leonard Nimoy is over her shoulder when playing the part: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P2hJmNZA728.html
I FREAKING love this episode. Between the promotions and VOY and of course T'Lyn. T'Lyn was the BEST introduction to this series this season. Also Ransom.....is correct, "sh!t got freaky"
Yes the cylinder addition to the opening credit fight is from the Voyage home. Also I think you did notice it but the Pike thing Mariner mentions refers to the crossover episode with Strange new Worlds. You should definitely rewatch this after watching Voyager because the Easter eggs will mean more. The basic premise of this episode with Twovix references the most divisive episode from the series with its moral and ethical implications and the way they were handled. The solution here sidesteps it by making everyone as Tendi puts it a non sentient blob
I believe T'lyn wasn't actually supposed to be a recurring character, but it turned out everybody likes T'lyn. Also she was based off of the Cosplay persona of someone working on the show.
I loved the Lower Decks treatment they gave the Klingon ship. Priceless! I, too, missed Voyager in its initial run and had never caught up. I started my Voyager...uh...well...voyage...after watching this episode. It's a blast experiencing the 'reverse Easter eggs': watching a Voyager episode and the light goes on as I realize "This was on Lower Decks!" Enjoy the voyage, my friend!
T'Lynn is honestly one of the best character of Lower Deck ! It's not easy, but she is a perfect balance for the group and i'm not surprise you love her already...Season 4 is great !!
It's weird how I don't like how the newer Trek shows have overarching, season-long stories...except for Lower Decks and Prodigy. And THIS one...I promise you'll never see the end coming.
So, in the perfectly paused moment of the introduction of the video with the white star hidden partially behind your head and the white dress uniform, you look like the Starfleet version of the Space Pope.
On what Janeway did, I haven't seen that episode, I gave up on Voyager quite quickly, but based on what others say: 'if our laws and rules mean anything, then they mean everything. Another way must be found.' Very Picard.
T'lyn is in some ways a Vulcan version of Mariner (transferred for being insubordinate, but actually highly competent), so it kind of makes sense that she'd gravitate toward Brad.
11:07 I like how Brad was so overwhelmed with emotions he pet her like a doggo. Both were disgusted afterwards, sure, it was cute demonstration how important they became to each other.
So glad it's Lower Decks Monday; as much as this episode is such an Easter Egg-filled gem, it's just an amuse-bouche for this glorious 4th trip around the galaxy. Absolutely cannot wait for the rest of the ride with you over these next couple of months. I will genuinely miss this show when it's gone; such a warm hug and source of joy as a Trekkie. Oh hey, I don't recall if you've watched 'Strange New Worlds' yet or not, but you'll definitely want to watch S2E7 ('Those Old Scientists') in conjunction with this season of 'Lower Decks' if at all possible. (And if you haven't watched SNW yet, I sincerely hope you get to react to them here, because I will hop on that journey with you in a heartbeat.)
#SaveStarTrekLowerDecks A website with the same name is trying to organise a mass streaming binge of Lower Decks on Saturday 25th May as part of the Save Lower Decks effort. I already posted this but I think the comment got auto deleted because I included a link.
10:49 Hindsight from The Inner Fight. Amongst other things, Mariner doesn't think she's worthy of being anything other than an ensign, while recommending Boimler for a promotion here. That's really humbling of her.
Can't wait until you watch voyager. It is my favourite of all the series. The combination of characters and the unique premise just appeals to me the most. They are faced with so many unique challenges and they have only themselves to rely on.
Good morning and happy Monday, @WarpReactor & fellow Trekkies! ☕ It's season 4 time! Get ready for $h!t to get freaky! We're going to experience ton of historically significant Voyagey Easter eggs today as well as the most beautiful work of art in Starfleet history! This season we're certainly not going to get any mysterious threats....are we? Well, we are all in for a fun and exciting ride this season so stay tuned! Until ep 2 next week, LLAP & Vulc'n'Roll my friends. 🖖🤘
This is why voyager should've been shot into the sun the moment the crew disembarked. That vessel is cursed. There is not a single original crew-member on board and it STILL tried to kill people!
