Because it is Paramount. They and MGM don't understand how precious those franchises are to the fans, Star Trek and Stargate respectively and rather destroy any merchandise or fan projects than let anyone else shine. Luckily for us, CBS is the big honcho for Star Trek and MGM was bought by Amazon, so we get merchandise as much as we want. Except an official Moopsy plushie.

There are complaints about Mariner backsliding in this season, beyond this episode, all I will say is that mental health is a journey and simply knowing the problem doesn't fix the problem.
She goes through real internal struggles, and is forced to face the demons of her past that have been haunting her. This is such a great season for so many reasons.
I don't know if I'd actually say that first part. Well, not entirely. Mariner HAS shown a lot of compassion and supportiveness in this season. Empathological Fallacies in particular. Post-PTSD discussion-with-Ma'ah Mariner? AMAZING!

Fun thing about Lower Deck, they can create and use old design other show never used before...that Romulan ship at the beginning was supposed to be what they look like in TNG, but they switch to the actual look !

Poor Gary reminds me of my apprenticeship days, where my bosses were an elderly married couple that acted EXACTLY like Mariner and Ransom ! Their adult children told me they had been acting like that for decades. In this episode, we see the worst of humanity, the couple in the Zoo that freed the Moopsy to do chaos for financial gain and the best of humanity, Jack and Beckett (their genetic opposites), ready to sacrifice themselves to save the others. Moopsy is an adorable terror. Rutheford was so sweet to refuse promotions not to lose Tendi. He might be in love with her, but he is not ready to admit it. I'm also amused by Mariner's actions to anger Ransom, like not wearing her uniform and wearing a tight short gym suit instead. Lol, Girl, he loves the gym and fit girls, you just brightened his day!
A couple nice bits of background info for this episode: The title is a reference to the classic science fiction horror story "I have no mouth, and I must scream", by the legendary Harlan Ellison. Ellison also wrote the screenplay for an upcoming TOS episode, "The City On The Edge Of Forever", as well as multiple episodes of "The Outer Limits", one of which he claimed was ripped off for the original Terminator film (Ellison was given financial compensation and a credit on Terminator to make the lawsuit go away). The voice of Moopsy is provided by the kid of one of the show's staff.

24:40 I think I remember seeing somewhere that Season 5 was planned to be the final season. (Season 4 was even a bit of a surprise). This doesn't rule out future movies or even crossovers, but as for the series of Lower Decks. Five was it.
I think part of it is that they can't stay lower decks forever. By nature of it being about the bottom of the totem pole, at some point they have to mature and grow in ranks.
I love Jack's development from this asshole dudebro into revealing that he's actually a very thoughtful, perceptive XO who cares about his junior officers.

Good morning @WarpReactor and my other Trekkie friends! ☕ Today we continue the Beckett arc and get so many Easter Eggs. Such a fun episode. One thing that has clearly been revealed along the way is that Mariner and Rutherford are somewhat/a fair degree older than Tendi and Boimler. **I need to comment that LD was originally planned and scripted out as a 7 season show. Especially because of that fact, I am FIRMLY AGAINST this cancellation. Paramount cancelled because they are cutting costs, likely to be sold and LD is a 20 minute show in a streaming service, all of which are rated by minutes watched. LD needs to be picked up by Netfix so they can complete the fully visualized 6 &7th seasons that were outlined and planned from the very beginning. The Narge looks more like a peeled banana than an ear of corn, but either way he is an intelligent flora based lifeform...with bones. The "Tucker Tubes" is a long time scifi gadget used in numerous other scifi shows both before being used in ST and since, although the name was given in Enterprise. The "Billups Tubes" is now a uniquely ST thing. We already know of T'ana and Shax's hilarious holodeck antics, but I do love Freeman's Federaton President Inaugural Scatting! I adore Moopsy, but feel bad for those Swamp Gobblers I love this season's arc and the last 2 episode's surprise ending is very revealing and exceptionally clever. Bravo, LD! Fantastic stuff, my friend and I completely agree with the #SaveLowerDecks movement. We need to stop punishing excellence in long form narratives. 6:41 It still bothers me for this day why Paramount did not capitalise this creature. On the other hand, we are living in the reality where millions merchandise of fcking Baby Yoda existing. And Disney demonstrated their willingness to sue anyone who will try to get any money out that character, so…I feel conflicted. At least Paramount let fandom forefill demand for fans without intervening.
How intelligent is Moopsy? Probably equivalent with I am Groot Got a suspicion about "Slave One" but i don't want to put my warped ideas ideas in your head. When the reveal comes to pass you'll get an "i was wrong" or "I WAS RIGHT" (I won't lie). Final season / cancellation - I think it's the streaming thing. It's why so many streaming shows only get one, two or three seasons. - the algorithm says you're not getting any new subscribers or the churn (subscribers drop the service after the "hot" show has finished it's season - House of the Dragon, Shogun, Last of Us). Also the flux state of Paramount being up sor sale - who knows what the new owners will do? I can be satisfied with 5 seasons - particularly when the writers know that and can bring us to a satisfying conclusion. Right now I'd kill for another 4 seasons of Firefly.
Unfortunately it doesn't appear the show's writers chose to end it- Paramount canceled it. I still hope they will end season five on a good note. I just hope it doesn't end on a cliffhanger like season two did. Or that they'll do a Lower Decks movie down the road or something.
