Prometheus is the unluckiest ship in Sci-Fi. Prometheus in Prometheus: Destroyed ramming an Engineer Juggernaught. Most crew killed. 2 survived only to die later. USS Prometheus: Star Trek Voy. Captured by Romulans crew killed only retaken by 2 EMH's X303 Prometheus: Stargate Sg1. Destroyed by orbital defence platform in the Battle of Tegalus, 39 dead. ESA Prometheus: Babylon 5: In the Beginning. Started the Earth Mimbari War that almost saw all of humanity wiped out. 250k dead. Yeah, I'd say the Prometheus is more unlucky than the Farragut at least among the wider sci fi franchises. I'd worry getting posted to any scifi ship with that name.

I just wish the bottom "secondary hull" bulge was extended all the way further back so that there's more room, maybe for a shuttle bay. After all, the ship shares the same impulse engine, and though probably a slightly thinner nacelle, it pushing a ship half the weight of the Constitution class. I do like the look of this new ship As far as the pylon curbing inward, where it's located makes sense as the nacelles are tucked inward out of the way for most of the range of the phaser turrets. If you look at the Miranda, the side phaser can hit the front of its nacelles. Then there's the ridiculous Nebula class nacelle literally right below the phaser array.

I like this ship design. Definitely has the Miranda Class vibe. Only problem I have with it is the name. The Farragut should be a Constitution Class starship. It’s one of the names that TOS producers and writers DC Fontana and Robert Justman used in their Season 2 and onward list. As mentioned in “The Making of Star Trek” book, Justman and Fontana created a list of Constitution Class starships that they used for Season 2 onwards. That list is: Enterprise Exeter Excalibur Lexington Yorktown Potemkin Republic Hood Constitution Kongo Constellation Farragut Valiant Intrepid I always felt this was a pretty set in stone list since it was written by DC Fontana herself so this is kind of a sloppy continuity error. I mean I guess this could be a replacement Farragut after the original was destroyed, but it just seems kinda weird to me.

I think the reason why SNW's USS Farragut went with a different design so that it will be easily distinguishable to the Enterprise, especially in a large space fight or setting. Same reasoning why the Miranda class existed during the Wrath of Khan. Having two Constitution class ships on screen for a fight will make it hard for fans to distinguish which ship is which from a distance. That in mind, makes sense on why every time we see another Constitution class in Strange New Worlds is either that ship is destroyed or nothing of important happens to said ship.

@willgillies5670
@willgillies5670 Год назад
In fanon circles, making TOS era Farragut another Constitution is ok but if for onsceen, it just makes practical sense if Enterprise and Farragut do not look alike, consider Reliant in TWOK, it was supposed to be a Constitution refit just like Enterprise but it would be confusing visually. I feel Discovery and Brave New Worlds are a different timeline anyway, I ant reconcile visual differences. I also have difficulties with it ,same as I get a bit twitchy when USS Republic was depicted as a Baton Rouge class. Fact is we never saw and were never meant to see USS Farragut and we only ever saw Constitution classes in TOS so it made sense in 1967 to make a list of ship names and assume they would all be same class. Now, in 2023 there are probaby hundreds of official canon designs from severalseries and games, fan designs and refits, proposed designs for ever bilt ships, and so on. AS a result reconciling it into one timeline can be hard. Tv seris makes only obligations is to make entertaining television. It up to us fans to make sense of it or not. Like, if USS Farragut in Generations was destroyed in Domion war, was an Excelscior class a new build (doubtful) or just a renamed Excelscior. "This observation was also confirmed by the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 262); furthermore, the authors speculated that this Farragut was an older ship which was retired, then re-commissioned after the destruction of the Nebula-class USS Farragut." Makes some kinda sense.

Wasn't there something about Kirk where, after the cloud creature incident on the Farragut, he spent a year as an instructor at Starfleet Academy before his promotion to Commander and becoming XO of the Farragut? And another curious thing: the font used for starship hull registries in Discovery seasons 1&2 and SNW...it's the same as the ToS era movies...which would all occur AFTER ToS proper. Why would they change it for that period of time of Federation history where Kirk commanded the Enterprise, especially knowing that it was also used under Pike's command in "The Cage" (which SNW takes place after), and thus likely under then-Captain April's command?? 🤔🤔🤔 Seems like a waste of resources to change the font in the 2260s, only to change it back in the 2270s where it'd effectively stay forever. Unless you just hand wave it away with the "loosey goosey timey wimey stuff". 🤷🏽‍♂️

Anyone else see the "face" in the moon at time stamp 4:50-4:55? You can tell whoever did the animation and let me say it looks awesome but whoever did it tried a "Man on the Moon" kind of face with the shadows and craters but just didn't do enough to make it more subtle. The hair is flopping over to the right, the nose is very prominent with close set eyes, rounded jaw line and a heck of a mustache. Our brains have evolved to recognize faces and patterns, there's a scientific name for this I cannot remember right now but I saw the face almost as soon as it popped up. I had to rewind because I thought for sure I'd seen wrong but nope, there it was. To any who read and possibly respond, may you have many blessings and much good fortune.

Then another 5 years than spock and him again briefly But never in tos or the movie is enterprise the flag ship of the federation, only kirks we hear nothing about b and c being flagships . I'd argue the 1701 and 1701 a. The roles of b and c made it the flagship going forward. Like how nx established the federation. But dialogue breaks Conon sll the time. In discovery and snw

I realize the SNW is in an alternate reality, but in the TOS reality the Farragut was a Constitution Class Starship, with its hull number NCC-1647 implies that he was upgraded from some other class. I don't agree with your assertion that after the Farragut was reported destroyed (a Nebula class) it was replaced with an Excelsior Class. That would be going backwards. While we see Excelsior class ships in TNG all the time, it is unlikely that Starfleet is building more of them since the latest and greatest current models (Galaxy and Nebula) would more likely be in construction. The same with Naval Vessels. Once a particular class has been replaced with a newer model, production of the old model comes to a halt, or the old model is halted with the new model is unveiled. Example: Enterprise-C was an Ambassador Class. When she was destroyed at Narenda III, Starfleet didn't go backward and clone a copy of the Enterprise-B, no, they went with the most state-of-the-art design they had, which was the Galaxy Class. When Enterprise-D was lost, Starfleet did the same thing again, making a new Enterprise with the newest class available, the Sovereign class, and so on through the progression of "newer, faster, better" ship designs.

But, we never see her on screen, nor is she specifically identified on screen as the same ship type as the Enterprise. The list was "official" in so far as it was the offical list to be used by the production department from season 2 onward. The same list of ship names was included in the decals for the original AMT Enterprise kit. The only ships we see on screen are Enterprise, Constellation, Exeter, Defiant, Lexington, Excalibur, Hood, and Potemkin. In the remastered episodes, we also see Intrepid in orbit over Starbase 11 during Court Martial.
