Given that the canon TV shows seem to be taking more and more ships from Star Trek Online wouldn't be surprised to see the Vesta Class make the leap at some point.
IDK, if they showed the Odyssey class Enterprise only in it's ceremony to be decommissioned un the Picard series, I am afraid that they do the same with other STO starships or simply relegate them to mere cameos.
I have a Vesta class in Star Trek Online. It's optimized for speed and 'touring the galaxy'. I thought that was fitting for a exploration ship. To seek out worlds. I then use my Defiant class to turn starships into spacedust...
This is actually a pretty cool ship. Looks like a souped-up Intrepid. I also love the idea of Ezri Dax becoming a captain! Guess I need to track down those novels now
the Starfleet corps of engineers are not Engineers in the sense of technical designers but rather Engineers in the military sense, meaning personal trained in constructing infrastructure in hazardous enviornments and rapid speed.
It's called an eggplant because the botanist who discovered it saw it in It's early development where it actually looks like an egg. By the time they realized the mature plant looks way different the name already stuck
100%...but my Irish gf and her 2 english friends like to argue the fact because aubergine "sounds better". I have to offer her a potato and her friends some bangers to get then to settle down ;)
@@thalastianjorus Oh, apologies, you misunderstood. Eggplants were not "discovered" in any sense of the modern term. They were domesticated in Asia like .... thousands of years ago. There are references to them in ancient Greece and China, both predating Christ. The idea of a modern botanist or anything that resembles such going "oh! look at this plant! It looks like eggs" is absurd. Hense... *citation needed*
Starfleet uses Cision Promark 4 toothbrushes. They come equipped with tiny Mass Effect fields that break up plaque and massage the gums. They cost about 6,000 credits.
To paraphrase a known saying, everyone at Star Fleet Research and Development Branch were so busy asking if we *could* build the Cision Promark 4 toothbrushes, they forgot to ask if we *should.* Personally, I'm not sure we as a species are ready to handle such advanced dental hygiene technology. It might be too early.
Notably, they utilize the same chroniton sensors that the quantum slipstream uses. Except, instead of predicting the slipstream fluctuations, these predict where you'll be developing cavities!
Man, I love your vids. Not only are they informative, but your sarcastic tone and in additional commentary is just makes watching these videos more fun. Keep up the great work.
Adam sure puts his 'spin' on the narrative! So entertaining! I can't wait if you ever do a BSG episode review (Adam=Adama!)! I would love captaining a Luna class myself!
Everybody always wants to see the new stuff. I always do. But we should go back a bit and talk about the ship that trail blazed for Starfleet before the NX class. The Daedalus class has always taken a back seat in it's history especially on this channel. How about some details and some videos on this?
Now this is my kind of ship! I would love to see the Federation do a true carrier type of ship more in line with a modern air craft carrier, or something like a Space Control Ship (SCS) from the table top game Star Fleet Battles!
It is hard to justify a carrier when fighters seem somewhat anemic and fragile in that universe. We saw them explode like Oberth grade firecrackers during the Dominion War offensive, scores of them were lost during the push towards Cardassia Prime. Having said that, however, the damage dealt to pilots lost ratio might make them worth it, we don't have access to that data. It would be really cool to see a Federation carrier deploy waves of warp capable fighters though, like TIE fighters pouring out of an ISD.
@Voltaic Fire i see your point, but if an ecm/eecm system was developed for fighter craft, that scramble most starship targeting systems, giving the fighters more of a chance to score hits.
@@Voltaic_Fire I agree that their portrayal so far has made them look fairly useless, but they were quite good in the Table Top game Starfleet Battles. It's really just about how they are portrayed really. Maybe they hadn't used fighters much until the Dominion war, given that the Federation isn't war like. Possibly after that war, they come up with some new and improved ones. In fact, that could more or less be the premise of the first few episodes of the first season of the show. :) It's like shuttles. They are pretty useless in the early shows. Then they invent runabouts and things like the Delta Flyer.
I've been playing STO since May 2010 and my main's command is the USS Emilia, a Brigid Multi-Mission Surveillance Explorer :D The Caelian is a new addition to the line of ships that was added to a Legendary pack a in STO a year or so ago! It's alright I guess, I like the Brigid's seating more though ;)
I'm hoping that Voyager A is a Vesta class, thus finally making this beauty canon. As for saucer separation, it certainly would explain why there is such an overabundance of impulse engines in separation prime locations. :)
A lot of the exploration science vessels always interested me because of the fact that exploring strange new worlds was always my favorite part of Star Trek since TOS and in turn Voyager and Enterprise were some of my favorites because they got to explore a lot.
"Teen, tyne, tane, tone" "Lean, lyne, lane, loan" Had me literally rolling laughing, lol. I was wondering the rest of the video what other "pronunciation" you'd add next XD
I like how you can see Starfleets "OH SHIT" moment with the Borg, and how it influenced ship design(only building pure warships) for a whopping two generations before they went back to building giant warp capable hotels in space.
I have to say I enjoy your videos with your satirical take on ship specifications as only data gets a smile from mundane techno babble. Well done and looking forward to your next showing.
Aventine, tíne toe oh I love it. Please Mr. Adam, make som more videos you are really making them so much more than educational they are funny and I do agree in everything you said in the video. Besides I would mind having a Vesta class ship 😉
We need a new series with a ship that has a quantum slipstream drive with episodes where we explore the Dwarf Galaxies outside the Milky way. The ship should be equipped with all of the weapons, armor and drive systems in Voyager's last episode. The ship could eventually bump into the Kelbans from Andromeda and episodes where we actually have to ally with the Borg and the Dominion to deal with extra galactic races.
That's how we can get the Iconians into Alpha canon. A Fed starship exploring a dwarf galaxy discovers the Iconians. They're not sleeping or anything. Just waiting waiting to receive a signal from the Blue Gill that Starfleet is pacified.
5:35 we know from ST Nemesis (I think it was Nemesis) that Janeway made admiral anyway, sometime before her subspace call to Picard to deliver orders or something. (It was a very small part of the movie.) 7:30 the metric ton is a unit of mass, not volume/space. 8:30 according to the graphic at 5:50, the crew's main recreation center might rightly be called Twelve Forward, and 6:00 it likely comes equipped with advanced drink straw replicators. 12:15 sounds like a certain author of novels really needs a few ... hundred hugs from a friend. Maybe even Sybok-strength hugs. 13:13 I can't help but feel that you have that reversed - as in Ezri first, the Aventine second. The last time we saw Julian and Ezri together on DS9, they were on VERY good terms. Like, "let me see if your spots can be licked off" kind of good terms. 👀 It's a beautiful ship, and I would love to captain one in my mind. Since I don't play the online game or read the novels you cited, your channel is a very good source of Trek info I might never see otherwise. Thank you.
It appears that Star Fleet is totally stuck in a never ending cycle of starship deigns. I think it’s about time for the starship design team to start thinking outside the box and produce some totally new designs.
I love this ship. Thanks for the indepth video:) Btw, since you're taking suggestions Sir, could you look into a ship that may, or may not, fall into ANY canon or extended canon...The Abbe Class, a federation gunboat that existed, supposedly, in the Enterprise A era. Thanks!
ah the Vesta class not to be confused with the pasta class the Vesta has quantum slipstream drive the Pasta class has overcharged ' extra spicy meatball ' heavy quantum torpedoes
A fun thing to do think about is how Voyager would have fared if she were a different class of ship. I think that the intrepid was fairly well suited, but would being stranded have been easier in a Vesta class, a Galaxy class or an Odyssey class? It could be a good idea to explore. I think the Vesta would have done better. It's a larger ship, with more people on board and far more power. This ship would have mopped the floor with the Khazon, for example. The only downside could be the increased consumption and resources. Obviously, it didn't exist at the time Voyager was lost, but it's interesting to theorise.
I love this design. I wouldn't mind being Captain of a ship like this. This ship actually looks like it would have a chance of taking on the Borg successfully. Also, if you were thrown into the far reaches of the galaxy with a very long trip home, it looks like it has the speed necessary to get you home within your lifetime as well as the comfort levels required to not go insane due to being closed in on a small ship.
Specially the science variant is very powerful within the game, if you fit her out correctly that is. It can deal a hefty punch to pretty much anything.
This ship has always intrigued me. I always found it interesting and I think I would command this type of ship. A ship having not only a regular warp drive, but both a quantum AND transwarp drives is rather fascinating. Not surprised this ship would have hull armor like the Defiant. The one cannons is interesting too. I love the Defiant too, probably my second favorite 24th/25th Century Starship design that I like. BTW I loved this video on how it was presented. Adam you had me chuckling a lot especially with how you kept pronouncing the ship's name. UGH what a crappy way for Ezri to die. I dunno if I'll accept that as the books aren't cannon. So unless we actually SEE Ezri die I just won't accept that.
You make fun of the "super yacht" design the ship has, but in truth, on a deep space/long term exploration ship, one of the things you would want would be luxury, on top of practicality. Obviously the officers would be spending far more time than other counterparts on board the ship, so making it as comfortable as possible would greatly help with morale. The other important thing would be ensuring the damn thing could take a hit and dish one out. The fleet isn't there to back you, so being able to defend yourself would be probably the most vital. This is why I always made my first established base in Mass Effect Andromeda a military one.
If they placed landing legs on the outer rim the placement of 4 impulse decks should mean it should be able to separate and still function well as each part would have it's own engines. maybe both parts even have at least some slipstream functions, that would be cool. The main hull seems to keep the cannons though when separating. I like how when split it looks a lot like the Sovereign class when split up. It might suggest a non-slipstream equipped version could even take conventional round saucer instead as a swappable option. Or it could take a slip on shoe that was all tactical systems focuses or scientific focus..
Vesta is besta. The Starfleet Core of Engineers must have asked the admiralty "So what level of resources do we have to design this new ship?" and they said "yes."
Did anyone notice the reverse adaption chamber on the slipstream transponder when he was displaying the engine room? I noticed it also had an inverse gravity transition module that was incorporated into the flux capacitor used to facilitate the module infusion link.
They have been hinting about it here recently. A "Next generation of a Next Generation" type of show. I am all for it. As much as I am looking to Picard this week? I would LOVE to see a BRAND NEW SHOW. Same vein as the original show. TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE
I can't wait for them to figure out how to add a compact (purple) temporal drive like a third Nacelle! Oh wait there's a bad omen with that one, maybe it's best to avoid messing with time even to save Earth.
A huge ship bristling with weapons, packed with living space and storage, basically a war cruise ship makes perfect sense. It should be comfortable away from port for a very long time, and largely self sufficient if it is to spend time expanding the fringes of explored space.
I still think that Starfleet should had used the original Slipstream tech and not the Borg enhanced Quantum Slipstream which negates the stress on the ship's forward hull. The Voyager was initially modified and successfully used the regular slipstream for several hours. 7of9 integrated certain transwarp principles to solve the forward stress to the ship's hull by creating a transwarp tunnelling effect in the quantum realm. Instead of reinforcing or redesigning the hull, she developed the quantum slipstream so that there's a forward wave generated by the main deflector far ahead of the ship so that there's no stress on the physical hull making the regular slipstream several times faster than the regular slipstream by Species116. IMO, the correct deployment for the original slipstream tech is the Voyager-A(Vivace class from SFC3/BridgeCommander/Armada) which is before the novel introduction's of the Vesta/Aventine class. The Vivace class looked like the forward section of the Intrepid class had been expanded by 1/3 more and the main hull by 1/4 more for safely travelling in slipstream plus fixed the variable position nacelles. Anyway don't forget to include the CoAxial Warp too since that didn't include an external modification to the ship's warp engines and maybe rebuild the ship's EPS system so that the Sikarian Trajector could also be used. IMO, the Sikarians are a remnant world of the T'Kon empire like Aldea and Outpost world. The quartz crystal used by the Sikarians for space folding are the similar large crystals seen on the T'Kon Outpost world.
There are few design elements from Galactica in there as well. Focus on the arching of the nacelle profile and the texture mesh on side of that section. For me, it's evocative of the side the Galactica at just about the aft opening of the port side launch bay.
Considering some STO carriers only have a single fighter slot, and some superyacht's have facilities for 2 helicopters, yes, a superyacht is a small aircraft carrier....
I do command a tier six vesta in sto the nx93890c USS qutezecol. She gained the nx tag after the iconian war was refit to the c variant and ceased to exist on paper as she became a covert shop for starfleet
Thanks for the video. Yes, the Vesta class is my preferred and I would take it over the Sovereign or the Defiant! I've just got to say too: the stories in the Expanded Universe of the Pocket Books are much richer than what we got in the TV series, in particular Picard and Discovery. True, book authors have far more time to come up with compelling and interesting stories than TV script writers. Not all books are good, but on average they're (IMO) better. The TV series should have taken a page from The Expanse and followed the books, not sacrificed 25 years of storytelling for mediocre plots. Can you imagine a live action "A Time To", "Typhon Pact", or "Destiny"?
I just wish they had simply stopped the novels, rather than undoing them with Coda. I get they wanted to do a definitive end and try to make it a dramatic last hurrah (rather than the sudden stop of the Star Wars EU), but I think we were ill-served by ending it so definitively. The way the writers methodically undid all the new groundwork the novelverse had done felt malicious and spiteful. And I don't blame the writers either; it was orders from on high that someone was going to carry out, so it might as well have been some of the writers that built the novelverse. But it came across as watching a man told to put down his dog. And not with a gun, but with an aluminum bat.
@@balrighty3523 I haven't read the CODA books. Are there not going to be any more books then? Voyager had Project Full Circle and the Alpha Quadrant had the Typhon Pact. They were both great subjects.
Spoilers warning: Project Full Circle mostly ends when Voyager travels with IIRC an advanced noncorporeal civilization to explore the satelite galaxies beyond the edge of the Milky Way. Notably, Janeway and Chakotay finally get married, and most of the Voyager crew is spared being explicitly killed off in Coda (though it still implicitly happened off-screen). The Typhon Pact had a number of conflicts with the Khitomer Accords powers, but had mostly settled into an uneasy peace before Coda happened. Sisko and the U.S.S. Robinson never do complete their exploration mission in the Gamma Quadrant and we never do find out just how his quarter-Prophet daughter grows up, or her future role regarding Bajor or the Prophets. And unless someone in charge of the IP goes back and reauthorizes the novelverse to continue (which would require negating the entirety of Coda, since that trilogy only exists to kill off the novelverse beyond all hope of resurrecting; it's essentially the Star Trek equivalent of The Timeless Children from Doctor Who, an event so catastrophic to the novelverse continuity that every aspect of it would have to be undone to even begin picking up the pieces), we never will. And heck, even if that were to happen someday, there's still the question of whether future writers for the reborn novelverse would be able to maintain the quality and momentum that the novelverse was enjoying. It might just be that the Star Trek novelverse, the last great vestige of the Star Trek franchise moving forward from Nemesis, is dead for good. Which isn't to say that there won't still be novels. They'll just be more self-contained stories within the existing series that don't push beyond the status quo (or tie-in novels related to the Kurtzman series). So TOS, TNG, etc. during the series might still happen, but it would take a miracle to continue the post-Nemesis novelverse continuity. And there are no words in TlIngan Hol, Rihansu, or the languages of the Federation for this treachery.
The aventine was in a book, or series of books bit i dont remember their titles. In the book it had cannons powerful enough to overwhelm a borg cubes shields.
