Frakes was right when he said Spiner can make us feel sorry for Data when he can't feel anything. I cried when Lal died in The Offspring. Data couldn't feel, which broke my heart. I wish Brent would get bigger parts in movies because he is such a good actor.
Q fixed that in the episode where data did something good for Q, and prior to Q leaving...Q did his thing and temporarily updated Data's algorithm so he can experience laughter as a going away present. He started laughing hystericically....not knowing why..ha It only lasted about 8 seconds...but he enjoyed well after the experience.
I think Brent Spiner did such an amazing job at creating Data, that I can not imagine any other actor being able to do the role nearly as well. It's exactly what Frakes said - As Data, Spiner, brought out emotions in the audience. Brent Spiner really deserves special recognition for his role.
Sarah Kinsey God, what an analogy. Rick Wright, huh? Wow. Why though? I totally agree with the above comment. Data would be Data without Brent Spiner. He is amazingly talented. Through Data, he played so many roles it's simply incredible. He can sing and play instruments as well, the experience must have been amazing for him. But what kind of freaks me out is that... Brent himself is a lot like Lore, and not at all like Data. And I am a little bit emotionally conflicted because, despite Data being my favourite character, the fact that he's ultimately being played by a real version of Lore is a little bit freaky.
@@Exceltiaawesome I love Data as well. But watching Comic Cons here on RU-vid with Brent Spiner among the panel has given me more respect to the human version of Lore. He is funny, sarcastic, sexy, you-name-it. Some people think Tom Hiddleston would be a great actor to take over the part of Data but I strongly disagree. Only Brent Spiner can play Data/Lore/Dr. Noonian Soong/B4/Arek Soong and so forth. There is some of Brent in Data and some Data in Brent. They cannot take Data away from Brent. That is like changing Data´s/Brent´s DNA. If they do take Hiddleston on board he would have to play a different android created by someone else IMO maybe by Arek Soong? Hiddleston can look into how Brent is playing Data and find what works for him. But he can never be Data the way Brent inhabited the role IMHO. It does not freak me out that Brent is the personification of Lore :) There´s only a smidgeon of Lore in Brent when you look from the outside :) Because we do not know Brent in private we can only guess how he might be. I choose to believe he is a great husband and a wonderful dad.
Frakes was right about how Brent found a way to channel the emotions Data doesn't feel towards the audience. The ending the episode "The Offspring" just hits you like a brick, doesn't it!
Read in a Star Trek magazine once that everytime he played Data and Lore he got paid for both parts. So I'm sure he wasn't too upset over making twice his salary doing one episode lol
Wonderful :)Hooray, Data! Love the goofy look on Brent's face when he said they've done a better album. He he. Ahhh what a voice. The Sunspots ruule! Fraker is eloquent. I find what he said, and the way he said it, rather touching and beautiful. :)
Glad i found this video, i never knew the depth of brent. Data as a television character is one of the best of all time. They said it best when saying that data a being with no emotion was able to so easily bring out emotions in others due to his ability to view the world as a child.
to say that Data wasn't human isn't entirely true. he brought out so much that he made the show that much better. Data had ambition, heart, naivete, and he knew the meaning of sacrifice, as shown in ST:Nemesis, which I STILL think that they shouldn't have let Data die.
"When I fall in love" is beautifully rendered, and very Data. The album probably gives you a glimpse on the certain mindset Brent had when performing as Data.
Well Gates was actually a dance choreographer. She did the dance etc for the Labyrinth with David Bowie in X3 Data has to be my favourite character though a perfect mirror for humanity.
Data is just about the only character on TNG who's managed to really make me cry. You just love him so much. SoulReaper, do you have the other profiles? Or do you know where we could watch them?
Yeah, he has a wonderful voice, it's just... simply hilarious for some reason. XD Ahaha, I LOVED that scene. "You are not my mother!" It just seems so wrong for Data to yell that it's funny XD But I find it ironic how right after Brent says he's a lot like Lore, it shows a scene where Lore's being particularly evil and jealous/angry. XP
lmao, that ep... wow. XD I don't know why, but everytime I hear him start singing in that, I burst out laughing. I loved that shot of him pointing then smiling, I screencapped and saved it to my computer XP Brent's hilarious. Especially when he's saying how he loves playing different roles and it's always fun doing this with his favorite actor. (himself XD) I think when he said he was more like Lore... he meant without the whole evil side XD But that's what I got from it. I dunno.
Knowing the minds behind Trek, it was done on purpose. Spiner's humour--what I've seen of it in other interviews--is very understated. He doesn't make it obvious that he's telling a joke or trying to be funny. So to cut from, "I'm more like Lore" to a scene of Lore being a jerk is, I believe, a sly joke.
He's my fav character too! XD that would've been interesting... they are different. XD The only shot with him like that was before they were shooting or something and he pointed at the camera and smiled XD (near the beginning of part one) But if he was in costume in the interview, that'd be awesome. XD he'd probably remind me of a 'fixed' Lore. :3
Haha, it depends what he's singing for me-- or like in this vid, I can't help but giggle a little, seeing him move like that XD Brent's awesome. If I ever get the chance to see him at a con, I'm gonna ask if he can sing something for me XP
It's funny what he says about him being nothing like Data. The best actors always play characters nothing like them so perfectly that it's jarring to see them nothing like the characters offscreen. You just expect Brent as Data offscreen lol. Same with Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine or Jaleel White as Steve Urkel and Henry Winkler as Fonzie as a few examples. I also loved Brent in The Dorothy Dandridge Story, he was fantastic with Halle Berry.
Maybe, but I think the lot of Star Trek fans came to expect it after awhile. XD It's not a bad thing for most, just one of the things that make the show what it is.
It would have been interesting to have a police TV series with both Brent Spiner and William Shatner, but with Bill Shatner playing the part of a Mafia boss, and Brent Spiner a rookie cop whose family was gunned down by said mafia.
Whoever was responsible for marketing 'Ol Yellow Eyes is Back" is terrible at their job. I would have bought it, and likely you would have too, if they had sold me on it.
What does Michael Dorn say that cracks up LeVar? I keep rewinding and straining to make it out, but all I get is, "It seemed like..."? Maybe I'm totally wrong. xD
