I don't usually mind them skimping over tiny details but considering the entire reason why this is a DELUXE is because of extra paint, they really have no excuse to be this cheap this time. I still have it on preorder but I'm really considering whether the deluxe price point is really worth it.
Star Wars team at Hasbro just doesn’t care anymore about us. They believe they can do the bare minimum and they know fans will eat it up. They didn’t learn their lesson with the Rancor.
Just got one and no reason for it to be deluxe it's severely lacking on paint apps. Canceled my second order it's not worth it do not overpay for this figure from secondary sellers.
Since Robo mentioned it in here, I have to say it seems like it's been a good long bit since we saw a play day video. I think that not only are we due for one, but I think Robo is due for one, too!
I can't even remember how long ago the last play day was. I wonder if Robo just doesn't have time or if he doesn't have enough stuff to do a video with?
"Deluxe" for hasbro Black series means accesories splayed out in a larger box. I like Cobb Vanth, but he is not deluxe material (unless they could have given him removable armor, like intended, no warm water needd)
What sucks for me especially is that I dont even care for the accesories. Im not going to put on the jetpack or even the helmet. I just want the base figure and his guns.
@@ComicCrossing I am sure Hasbro will release a standard Sherif Cob Vanth. Just pray that it has a proper shirt sculpted in the upper torso and not just a straight reuse of the one used in this "deluxe".
The original sculpt on this is solid as is the case with most Black Series, but really it's the paint that seems to be the letdown here. I do hope they release a Cobb Vanth without the armor because I really need a Timothy Olyphant action figure without having to pay deluxe price.
I think the sculpt is great, and if this was a $20-$25 figure I would be super happy, I've got no problem doing some washes and custom work on my figures. But as a deluxe release, I feel like it should come with more. Still gonna get him though.
Cobb Vanth is one of my absolute new favorite characters, I need to get this figure no matter the price point! This is honestly the only time I’ll make that exception with the whole “deluxe” debacle. Cobb Vanth is just to cool of a character.
The figure I'm really waiting for is Boba Fett in his 1st armored appearance in Episode 6 of Mando Season 2. When he finds the rusty armor in the Razor Crest and massacres an entire platoon of Stormtroopers on Tython. But since that one will take a full year to come out, I'm just gonna buy a second Black Series ROTJ Boba Fett and customize it into looking like that version of the character.
Love the intro Robo. As it's supposedly deluxe why not give him some jet pack booster jets and the flame thrower effect from deluxe Boba and Hell how about a flight stand. That would be deluxe. As is if it was standard price I don't mind adding some paint, washes and dry brushing.
Great, after seeing this figure i am hoping Hasbro can make a single release of Cobb without Boba's armor, i mean it looks nice but i can't affors deluxe figures now sooo yeah there's that.
the head from the delux Boba Fett is actually sculpted under the helmet. i heated mine in hot water and gently pried it off w a flathead and painted it. looks great.
For the deluxe price point we’re getting awfully close to Neca prices which I don’t mind paying because Neca always has great sculpts and paint apps. This figure would be worth the $40-$50 Canadian it is if he had the quality paint apps on the rest of him that is has on the armour. Heck even the armour could use some more detailing. Hasbro is getting way to expensive for the amount of corners they’re cutting on paint apps and reused sculpts. Not to mention the fact that they’re so hard to get a hold of they end up going for insane amounts on the after market. Something’s gotta change at hasbro because I’m kinda done with them for the time being when it comes to buying figures at full retail price.
Remember when "Deluxe" in the Star Wars Black Series used to be for larger characters (like Grievious and possibly accessories that make sense like Palpatine's Throne)? Well, now it's just a price point with added accessories. Just like they did with Transformers with their size class.
I have him pre-ordered over at BBTS and can't wait to get him in, though it has him with a june release. I also picked up these silver permanent markers that work great for all those snaps and buckles that seem to never get painted.
Overall the figure looks pretty awesome! Thanks for showing it off. For the deluxe price, they should definitely go the extra mile and paint in those smaller details that you mentioned. Nobody wants to pay the deluxe price, but where else are you going to get a nice looking Cobb Vanth in this scale for a similar price? Not gonna happen. Cannot wait to get my hands on this one! -Justin
I think that's what it comes down to, it's not like I'm going to get Cobb from MAFEX or Figuarts. This is it. And like I said, I do enjoy adding paint and stuff.
If I'm honest had they nailed the likeness I may have picked this up, but on top of that looking a bit off here to me the paint overall just doesn't do it for me. Compared to say Cad Bane, that had a wash all over the legs and with that it helped convey the idea that his pants were a different material from his more clean jacket, to me this figure just looks a bit too plasticky. This may sound weird but there's almost a slight translucency to how the orange plastic looks, to me at least. I think the worst part for me is I could forgive all those issues if it weren't for the price increase, which ironically to me only highlights the cheaper aspects of this figure. Then again maybe I'm the wrong person to talk, I'm the one guy who wished Cad Bane actually killed him (not because I dislike the character, I like him a lot, but I feel him dying would've been better from an overall story standpoint to reinforce how dangerous and dislikable Cad Bane is). Either way I don't want to come off sounding overly negative, I'm glad to see you're happy with it Robo, and who knows maybe I'll change my mind when I see it in person.
I'm a fan. Like you Robo I don't mind doing some work on a figure, firstly it makes mine a bit unique and secondly it gets me playing with it a bit more. Otherwise he goes to the shelf and I move on to the next shiny thing I want.
They can't really say the paint makes it a deluxe and then not bother to paint almost the entire lower half of the figure. Great sculpt, great character, but it should either have been released at the standard release price point, or actually have the paint apps to justify the price.
As others have pointed out, including Fwoosh, Hasbro continues to dupe us. Deluxe packaging and higher price due to so-called “paint” (WTF is that - charging more for paint - are we supposed to paint these figures by ourselves now if we want normally pricing?), but upon inspection they totally skimp on actual paint. Look at all the plain and unpainted details on this figure. It’s insane! Also, his head appears to suffer from super glossy oily shine. Gonna need to pop it off and spray it with a coating of Mr Hobby Mr Super Clear Matt finishing spray that dulls the gloss/shine.
Looking forward to getting this and painting in everything they skipped. Which is a lot. Which is why this isn't a deluxe price, it's their future standard price.
Deluxe because of the extra paint apps? Really? for Hasbro, this looks pretty standard. Maybe I'd believe you if this figure had a wash/dry brush (which it desperately needs). Then you yourself say it's light on the paint and is missing stuff that could've easily been put on. It looks like a decent figure but man, they aren't earning their price hikes/"deluxe" title, we shouldn't be paying more to do the same or more work than we used to. Deluxe Boba came with more, boost effects, flamethrower flame, a... crappy grapple cable.
In the Amazon photos for this figure, you can see in one of them that he’s using that little hook on his belt for a grip for his hand, the helmet works too though… ayyeeee🤙
"Extra" Paint apps that used to be standard on Black Series. Even so, they still skimped on the paint apps here, even though their reasoning for pricing this as deluxe is Extra Paint LOL... Hasbro's tactics the passed few years have stunk
It's a cool figure, but there's nothing "deluxe" about it. This term just seems to be a justification to charge a little more for a particular character. I wish that face likeness was a little closer, but that's asking a lot from Black Series. I am anxious to see some non-Hasbro releases and their head sculpts.
So they're charging a deluxe price for this because of extra paint apps but this figure is missing about a dozen different paint apps at least. There's no excuse for this. They're just tricking you so they can charge you extra money and that's it

Great figure and as always excellent review, it does have a lack of paint but i think the sculpt fills in for that but its not good enough in my opinion to be considered a deluxe figure
Would’ve been cool if they added that spice box or something to help the lack of the deluxe paint apps that were promised. The deluxe tag isn’t justified (see what I did there lol) in my opinion.
On my figure the helmet doesn’t stay on that tight and can’t really move with the head. I get it’s supposed to be awkward but I’m probably going to have to use sticky tac to keep it on
I don't collect Star Wars: The Black Series. I did collect Star Wars as a kid. When Robo was comparing the deluxe CobbVanth to the deluxe Boba Fett. It was clear the the deluxe Boba Fett had many more paint apps and definitely more sculpt compared to the deluxe Cobb Vanth. But Hasbro said that the Cobb Vanth was deluxe because of the paint apps. Hmmm. Seems a bit suspect. Apparently 32+17=504.
TBS is going to be the first thing that I cut out of my budget this year. I quit everything McFarlane last year. Quitting TBS and most of my ML this year. Really only doing imports at this point. Threezero, Medicom, and SHF are doing all the stuff that I want.
I hate being a hater, but the reason this was supposedly a deluxe was the extra paint, but the paint seems pretty regular to me. I cannot believe it, but it seems to be the so called Boba Fett taxes, rather than any hasbro's excuses... Still i'll buy it. ):
I can't recall if Vanth ever used the jetpack as intended, but at the Deluxe price-point, why didn't they include the flame effects for the thrusters? or even just a flamethrower effect? Unfortunately I like the character too much to skip out on his release, but I'm disappointed in the overall price-to-quality ratio.
