when they filmed this, Ian McDiarmid (the emperor) was in his 30's with all that makeup. when they finally filmed the prequels, Ian was at about the right age for the rest of it...
Don't forget about spoilers. You might not think it's a spoiler just giving the actor's name, but it is if a newbie's never seen the prequels and knows nothing at all. Just keep that in mind.
One of my favorite moments in this movie was a tiny one, but a big one imo. The *instant* Luke showed up in the Emperor's chamber, Luke started shit talking the Emperor, and Vader could only silently turn to look at him like "Son wtf u doing" It's probably the first time Vader has ever seen anyone *ever* mouth off to the Emperor.
Out of universe, the lightsaber color was switched to green because the blue color wouldn't have shown up as well against the backdrops used in this episode. (Like the desert fight against Jabba.) In-universe, it is part of becoming a Jedi to create your own lightsaber, which Luke did after he lost the one Obi-Wan gave him after Vader cuts his hand off (which incidentally was Anakin's old Jedi lightsaber, taken by Obi-Wan after he leaves him for dead on the lava planet). A comment from Vader: "I see you have constructed a new light saber. Your skills are complete." in the finale of this film is referring to this.
Its more of a level up. Blue lightsabers are for Padawans and novice Jedi. Green is primarily Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters. Other colors for Masters can range from Purple,Magenta, and Orange. But only Grey Jedi's use white lightsabers
@@soranraina4391 Then why did Obi Wan Kenobi, Ki Adi Mundi, Plo Koon and many other masters use blue lightsabers? I'm not sure if it's canon anymore, but I've read that Blue is the color for a Jedi Guardian (good at combat) and green is the color of a Jedi Consular (more of a diplomat, strong connection with the force).
George very recently came out and even said Lucasfilm went a completely different direction than they agreed on, but that 1-6 was still his story and vision. If George doesn’t claim it as canon, then I don’t either.
@@ruarikelsey1793 Let me guess, you don’t care about the legacy of this franchise, right? You’re happy to just consume product and get excited for the next product.
My favorite not just for Vader’s turn back to the light and him fulfilling the prophecy of balancing the Force... but for many other reasons. First of all the Captain Rex Rebel cameo is lit af. Second, it’s very legendary that three people were playing Vader lol, I mean I know everybody knows that but they literally had a guy in the suit, a guy for the voice, and a guy for the face reveal. Although, Sebastian Shaw definitely somewhat looks like an aged Hayden Christensen. My only complaint though is he looks a little bit too old to just be 45. I mean the actor, Sebastian Shaw, practically looks at least 60 in the scene. So I was thinking if GL or anybody else was thinking about redoing the OT here’s who I would personally cast for that, and this is based on preference and how much these actors actually look like Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford: Sebastian Stan as Luke Skywalker - This one’s pretty obvious. Mark Hamill himself even said a few years ago that Sebastian Stan could play an awesome Luke Skywalker. I even think they should get him to play an older Luke for the New Jedi Order Era. Millie Bobby Brown as Princess Leia - She’s actually said for years that she would love to play the role and it’s pretty obvious how much young Carrie Fisher and herself resemble each other. Although she is still somewhat young, it isn’t hard with these days of technology for film corporations to do a little bit of movie magic by aging the actor a bit. Although that wouldn’t be necessary for ANH, because Leia is literally “19” in the film (19 years after ROTS for those who didn’t know) So I wouldn’t even see them having to age her much, because the OT remake wouldn’t be a thing for a few years. Although Sebastian Stan is getting kind of old to play a young Luke Skywalker so they would probably have to do a bit of de-aging technology for him. Anthony Ingruber as Han Solo - Okay, this one is perfect. First of all Anthony Ingruber is not too far off from the age when Harrison Ford played Han Solo originally in ANH. Secondly, he literally portrayed probably one of the most perfect Han Solo impressions about 10 years ago, and now he’s even better for the role because he’s 10 years older than himself in that. And thirdly, your probably wondering, why would a major film corporation cast him if he just does “impressions”. Well that was 10 years ago, he actually doesn’t just do impressions anymore and been in quite a few movies/films. It’s funny because he ended up being in a movie about his idol Harrison Ford, where he played a young Harrison Ford. Harrison Ford himself literally said he played him really well and it was almost like seeing a younger version of himself so therefore obviously Anthony Ingruber. Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi - Why? First of all it’s Ewan McGregor ffs, he’s literally the nephew of the actor who played Wedge Antilles originally and probably one of my personal favorite actors to portray such a historic Star Wars Character. Secondly, the actor hasn’t aged whatsoever. And considering this takes place only 19 years after ROTS, this would give Ewan McGregor to portray a more realistic look of what Obi Wan would actually look only 19 years after. Now you may be thinking, oh Alec Guinness only looked so old because Obi Wan experienced PTSD from the betrayal of his “brother” and friend. Yes that could be a factor but I physically think it’s not possible for someone to age that hard in such a short amount of time. Unless Obi Wan went back to Coruscant to buy death sticks, he looks almost 70 not 60 in ANH. Also, even if they wanted to make Ewan McGregor older they easily could. Like I said it’s 2021, and de-aging and aging technology has been around for quite some time and aging technology, deepfakes, and CGI is only going to get better and more realistic over the years to were eventually you won’t be able to even tell. Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader - I think this would make the most sense. However, I only see him being Darth Vader with scenes where his mask his off and the final reveal in ROTJ when he tells Luke he was right. And yeah, same thing with Ewan McGregor. It’s Hayden Christensen, imo some of the best people to portray a young Obi Wan and a young Vader still as Anakin. Owen and Beru Lars - Okay I’m sorry but there’s no way Owen and Beru aged that hard in 19 years. There’s a possibility Owen did but I don’t see Beru aging from looking around 20 to looking 65 in a span of 19 years. It just doesn’t work, I think they should still look pretty good but you could even get the same actors in ROTS and maybe just fairly age them a bit. Boba Fett as Temeura Morrison - kind of self explanatory. Jabba the Hutt as CGI (Yeah he would have a voice actor but it’s 2021 we don’t need an actor in a giant suit to portray a slug essentially) I would love to also see in the OT remakes maybe a mini scene where we see how Darth Maul survived being chopped in half and escaped his ultimate fate of near death. Yes I know that was 32 BBY when that happened and he is in Clone Wars and Rebels. Just saying it could show him leading Crimson Dawn with Q’ira and then he has a flashback of how he escaped near death. I think Alderaan’s destruction would be a more emotional scene and we could see the Organas and other people on the planet the moment it exploded, like their reactions and them knowing they’ve met their ultimate purpose death. I think that would be even sadder if it was more modern. And of course, the three final scenes that would be legendary is SC 38 in ANH, the fight scene between Vader and Luke in ESB, and the scene in ROTJ when Luke goes up against Palpatine and his dad , Vader who turns back to the light and realizes he most one choose family over darkness, and two realizes this time he will not let Palpatine manipulate him anymore and this is the ultimate scene where he balances the force once and for all. For other side characters, like General Tarkin, I don’t know who you would cast. But remember with modern technology it’s not hard to perfect deepfakes, CGI, and de aging technology. Also, you may be wondering. Will this new OT remake completely obliterate the purpose of the old OT. Of course not! I’m only suggesting this if we wanted it to feel more modern and new. I think the OT would be referred to as the Classic Edition and the new OT would be referred to as the Modern Remakes.

In the EU, Palpatine was known to torture people that failed him, scan/copy their brain while torturing them to death, killing them and then cloning them with the previous person/copies memories (up to their death). So Vader is FAR more sympathetic towards those he punishes. LOL.
Yes the original designer of the Death Star in the old EU was tortured that way after the exhaust port weakness was found. Palpatine had the guy tortured to death and mind scanned over and over and over as punishment for that failure. When the New Republic arrested him and told him he was going to be executed for his crime of designing and building the Death Star his reaction was one of relief and just told them to be sure they make sure his death actually sticks this time.
@@Fordo007 Yeah, I remember that. Bevel Lemelisk was his name. "Darksaber" was one of the lesser novels in the Expanded Universe, but Lemelisks' story was easily the best part about it.
@@ruarikelsey1793 You’re just accepting it because you have no standards for entertainment. Legends bringing him back was fuckin stupid too, but at least there they tried to explain it. The writers for that disgrace to canon Disney studio mandated trilogy couldn’t give half of a shit about the continuity.
@Ruari Kelsey. No, we are complaining because they are garbage movies with garbage storytelling. YOU are in these comments just defending them to defend them. Because you literally CAN'T defend them actually being good in any way
To answer your question about Luke's green lightsaber, he lost the original blue one when Vader cut his right hand off in their first duel in the previous movie. Luke personally constructed the green lightsaber himself at Obi-Wan's old home in the deserts of Tatooine. I hope that explains everything. Great upload! 👍😁😁😁
This was the emotional pinnacle of the original Star Wars. All that has come after is a strive to capture the greatness of what came before and have the moment. No past no future just the now. Every moment of it. Just to be in the moment feeling truly alive...

At the end, the original Anakin's Force Ghost was same actor Sebastian Shaw, but after the Prequels, George Lucas edited him out and inserted in his place Hayden Christensen the Anakin's actor from the Prequels.
In an old Star Wars book series Jabba's father Zorba the Hutt was fed to the Sarlaac. Then it vomited him up as not even a sarlaac could digest a Hutt. So you were right...
fun fact: yoda didnt want to train luke origionaly because he sensed luke was to much like his father, yoda wanted to train leia who he beleived would be the perfect student.

FYI: the reason Mark Hamill (Luke) looks different is that around the time the first movie came out, he was in a car accident that messed up his face and he required reconstructive surgery. It showed in the second movie and I've often wondered if they wrote the scene where the ice monster on Hoth bangs him up real good to explain his scars and why he looks different than the first movie.
Actually the wampa scene was not written to explain his face change, in fact the accident was as bad as you assume. Mark Hamil even said it wasn’t as bad
The Emperor aka Darth Sidious was the most powerful Sith Lord in Star Wars history. The force lightning is a power used by the Sith. Sidious was so powerful he actually can reduce an enemy to ashes instantly. He was just warming up on Luke for not turning to the Dark Side of the Force. Great reaction. 👍
One thing I love about Jabba is that he only gets cooler with hindsight. Like, when this movie came out, Jabba was just disregarding Luke, even if he was a Jedi, which was already cool. But now I realize Luke was trying to walk in with the legacy and power of the Jedi behind him to try and intimidate Jabba, and Jabba basically just says “Bitch, you know how many Jedi I’ve dealt with in my life? Shutcho bitch ass up and get in the Rancor pit.”
Anakins ghost at the end is the last time he was good, which is why he's young, in the end he redeemed himself by saving Luke thereby letting him become a force ghost
BUT THE LAST TIME HE WAS GOOD WAS WHEN HE SAVED LUKE FROM THE EMPEROR, GEORGE LUCAS JUST CHANGED BECAUSE HAYDEN CHRISTIANSEN JUST HAD A MORE RECOGNIZABLE FACE AT THE TIME OF THE PREQUELS
@@SakaIsMyDad yeah i grew up with one of the million remasters of Return of the jedi and i recognised Hayden from the prequels but i knew the ogs came out before the prequels so i was confused as hell as a kid

Props to Denis Lawson for playing Wedge Antilles. Wedge flying for the Rebellion at both Death Star Attacks and also for the Battle of Hoth was amazing. He and Luke were both great friends and great pilots. When Red Squadron needed a leader, he got the role when Luke decided his course on being a Jedi. I love that Denis was Ewan McGregor's actual Uncle and that essentially led to Ewan auditioning and becoming Obi-Wan in the prequels.
In the radio drama of the movie from 1983, when Darth Vader picks up Palpatin he demands that Vader puts him down because he is his master and Vader answers back that Palpatin is Darth Vaders master but not the master of Anakin Skywalker before he throws him down the shaft.
The Luke and Leia being siblings twist is even more weird when it wasn't even the plan, they literally just decided after Empire Strikes Back 'Oh wait! Let´s make them siblings!'
But there were hints throughout Empire Strikes Back that Luke and Leia are siblings. Other than the "there is another" quote from Yoda, you have Leia hearing Luke call out to her through the force. Same thing happens near the end when Luke hears Vader calling out to him.
@@gumdeo That's the problem people had with Rey. She was somehow force sensitive without being related to any of the Skywalkers. Everyone hated that she could use the force and wield a lightsaber without any training whatsoever.
I knew it! I kind of felt like that was a last minute descipn. Some movies you can tell they write the movies as they go. But it needed up working out in the end and not compressing the story 🤷♀️
Second greatest twist of the originals but damn I wish the first wasn’t such a widely known fact
3 года назад
Nah, the greatest twist of the whole trilogy was that the little green dwarf alien was actually Master Yoda. 😉 Vader's twist is pretty unoriginal and a very old school cliché from Shakespeare's books and tv soap operas. Leia's twist also is very common specially from hispanic tv novellas' shows way before 1977 😂.
12:25 --- Luke lost the blue lightsaber when his hand was cut off.. He made his own lightsaber which is a Jedi skill.. You also noted that Luke force choked the guards at Jabba's palace. See, Luke is the "middle-ground". Neither dark or light side and uses elements from both..
Part of the reason Vader never opposed palpatine or was a threat to him was due to his suit, palpatine specifically had his suit designed with weakness to electrical attacks in mind which pretty much cripples him vs any sith with the ability to use force lightning.
Pity you didn't see the original version, where Sebastian Shaw appears as Vaders force presence. They substituted Hayden Christensen in this remaster because he plays a version of Annekin in the prequel trilogy.
Remember, the blue lightsaber is Anakin's, Ben Kenobi gift it to Luke in _A New Hope_ . Then Vader chopped Luke's hand in _Empire Strikes Back_ with the blue lightsaber making the drop.
Great reactions, man! Lot of fun watching you get into these. I was 8 years old when Star Wars came out in 1977 and it was a huge part of growing up in my generation.
Anakin force ghost confused a lot of people, they should have kept the original actor as a force ghost who played Vader in this movie because obviously Anakin should have aged 😂😂
@@caedes4367 he does. Period. But really. He was last good when he chose to do the right thing and sacrifice himself for his son. The older force ghost makes more sense in the Star Wars world and in the sense of continuity as a filmmaker. The tiger reasoning is a roundabout way to make that bad Lucas choice sort of make sense. It doesn't though.
I just find it hard to believe that he had never seen star wars before this. I grew up with star wars. I've loved it since I was a little kid. The story of anakin Skywalker is one of the greatest stories ever told. The skywalker saga is about him the whole way through.
The blue lightsaber was Anakin's until the battle with Obi-wan on Mustafar. Obi-Wan took the lightsaber and gave it to Luke. Luke lost it during his fight with Vader and lost his hand. He made a new one. Leia learns to use her powers after part VI.
Too bad you didn't watch the theatrical version. In the ghost scene at the end, the Anakin you see is the older man without his injuries. I think it has a greater impact on the ending than the younger version, and it's more logical . . .
im sure someone already told you but in the case no one did. Lukes lightsaber is green cuz once you become a Jedi master your final task is to make your own light saber. There are several different crystals, called "kyber crystals", you can use to power the saber, all giving off a different color. Luke having a different color lightsaber is to show that he is now a Jedi master. He also lost the original blue one when fighting Vader in Empire Strikes Back.
The little Ewok "Wicket" is Warwick Davis, he's quite a celebrity in the UK and also has his own TV series with Ricky Gervais. It's called "Life's too Short". Loving your reaction videos, keep them coming.
Boba fett didn’t actually die in the sarlacc,he escaped but then he fell back in but THEN he escaped again and lived quite a peaceful life until he found the mandolorian
The blue lightsaber fell at flod city when Luke's hand got chopped thats why he had a new green one in this movie but maz from force awakens somehow found it at cloud city and gave it to finn and Rey in force awakens
what do jabba the hutt, the jolly green giant and santa clause all have in common? a. they are all quite big b. they all say Ho Ho Ho each in their own way
I still prefer the original unedited trilogy, eyebrows and all. I don't mind the tweaked versions but my one peeeeve, is them adding Vader's "Nooooo!" when he saves Luke. Totally reduces the scene compared to the sudden, silent decision.
I find it funny how some people hate the Christian Hadenson edit at the end and say stuff like he’s too young etc but as of right now he’s more or less the same age he’d be in this movie and still looks the same XD. No disrespect to the og actor ofc.
That's the thing when they changed the ending to have the guy who played Anakin in Episode II and III. People watching Jedi for the first time are like "Who's that guy? Anakin?" Should have left the original actor there. Or at least gone all in and replaced Obi Wan with Ewan McGregor too.
Can’t lie, I preferred seeing Hayden. That’s cuz I watched the movies watching the prequels first. I feel like having Hayden as Anakin is kinda good cuz that was his last true “form” as Anakin Skywalker and a Jedi, after that he was Darth Vader.
@@SuperAbid0001 Probably would be best to somehow digitally replace the Vader actor in Jedi as well. So no matter what order someone watches them in they can recognize who they are. Why does everyone get so hung up on the kissing thing? Its not THAT BIG of a deal, especially when you didn't know you were related at the time. Hell, in most places in Europe, kissing is a fairly normal greeting, even for family.
@M 40 In the first EU book, 'Splinters of the Minds Eye' that was written after a New Hope and before Empire Strikes Back came out... Luke and Leia were quite... 'frisky' with each other in the book...
Us first generation Star Wars fans dont like what George had done to the special editions. It totally ruined our memories. I always pictured someone like Sebastian Shaw with a nobel presence (The actor that played Vader's reveal in ROTJ) to be Anakin Skywalker, not some N sync boy band member like Hayden.
