"The internet has never made it easy for people to speak their minds." Are they serious? The internet gives EVERYONE a voice. It also means everyone can reply.
The opposite of love is not hate. It’s indifference. If you care about someone who is destroying themselves, you don’t leave them alone and enable their behavior.
You are correct, the entertainment field is a customer service business... the problem is, the people in the entertainment field look down upon everyone who actually pays for their service because we are not on their level. The only opinions that matter to them are ones in the entertainment industry AND if they're only positive. How dare we have opinion, unless it's one of pure adulation.
Yeah just lost CDprojektred a few hours ago their new head writer is a DEI sweet baby Inc enjoyer Mary "story's need diversity before storytelling" ah I had no hope anyway
I know a couple of chefs that do indeed take bad reviews personally. It’s a matter of having an appropriate temperament for your job. For decades working your way up the Hollywood ladder toughened people up and made them either o-en or immune to criticism. In these days of untalented, untrained, and inexperienced people essentially being gifted heir jobs for identity reasons, you are left with a bunch of thin skinned incompetent prima-donnas that take the entire world personally and certainly cannot handle anything other than their mommies telling them what a great job they did.
To answer your question Elaine, no, they cannot have standards. Because the only standards they apply when hiring people are their sects, raice, and sectsualitee.
"At the end of the day, you're supposed to appeal to the customer." And that right there is why they *_absolutely refuse_* to use the word "customer" when talking about the unsatisfied public. Because they _know_ it's unprofessional and indefensible.
Imagine entering a restaurant, everyone is seated and the chef/owner/waiters tells everyone that they aren't welcome/they should be uncomfortable/they are the problem and so on.
Show me a RU-vid channel where people are in a panel, giving positive glowing praise about The Acolyte and bonding over how much they love it? Show me where those people are being bombarded with hate or bullied? This is just like when Wookiepedia claimed they were receiving "threats" but posted no evidence or proof.
These people have proven they are only capable of writing narcissistic stories that self insert themselves and their own beliefs into anything they do. Even if they get to make something from a pre-existing beloved story, they cannot help themselves. They seem to be incapable of creating artistic creations that stray away from their own personal perspective, instead of showing they can lean heavily into escapism and pure storytelling.. They have proven time and time again that they are not capable of doing anything even remotely close to that.. (which is weird because that should be one of the most important attributes that a director or a developer or an actor has in order to be successful at their job....?) How is there no one that will fire these people who openly hate the fans, hate the consumers who made their success in the first place.. This show comes off so cheap & tacky.. It's not just the terrible writing & terrible acting. It's horrible set design, horrible world building, horrible camera work. It all makes this show feel so small. Like it's filmed in a single green screen room.. Grasping at awful CGI techniques to try and force any bit of a false reality into this mess of a show. It's so far from Legitimate Star wars movies that it feels as if this whole thing is a big parody.. A very expensive parody..
I'm glad you called out the Ahmed Best stuff bc it was the mainstream media that drove him to the issues he went through. Not the fans. This article is so bad and dishonest, glad to know Collider can't be trusted.
I've been calling Foley's poops Disney's for 6 months now. Maybe I should start calling them Star Wars instead. "I have to go pick up the dog's Star Wars all over the lawn" it works!
Alteori just had a video about the scandal with discrimination at Disney at its insane that the people yelling the loudest about diversity and harassment are more than likely deflecting from their own discriminations and paying off critics to run defense by gaslighting people
another issue l have with recent Disney SW content is if The Acolyte is set a thousand years bf The Phantom Menace why is the technology/clothing fashions pretty much the same in this period 🤔
the acolyte was made for for themselves, not for sw fans.. the makers of acolyte has no one to blame but themselves. to blame it on fans is pointlessly lecturing to...an empty room..
[Only mild spoilers] Just watched ep 7... More than half of it is recap/flashback to what we already knew. On the plus side we did after all get a scene of a Wookiee do Jedi stuff: *** In a scene that had all stakes and tension removed from it because we already knew all of the Jedi would survive!!! *** WHY WHY WHY do they write like this???? Disney's penchant for prequels is bad enough because you know exactly who lives and who dies, but why do it even when there's completely no need for it? All those millions and you couldn't pay for a writer?? Nawww let Leslye hack something together.
well let's articulate the problem as a whole and say what it really is so people less involved can actually understand what is happening: what disney is doing is using a very basic psychological technique to immunize themselves against any critique. they have placed themselves in a position where they're able to easily deflect all critizism from the outside. the ability to justify and maintain their broken inner hierarchical structure comes as an important bonus. their PC is hollow and only a means to an end, and anyone who's actually looking is able to see. this needs to be better stressed in youtube videos, so that this awareness can eventually end up in publications that are not only for fans. thank you for your content!
It's such a cheap stunt to deflect genuine criticism of crappy writing and lore-disrespect by pretending said criticism is is all just bigotry, I imagine this technique is ultimately bad for the marginalized groups they claim to empower/defend too. This article seems to push this mostly false narrative. Thanks for the Nerd Cookies, always enjoy your analysis.
I completely agree with the John Boyega comments. I remember seeing the trailer where he ignites the lightsaber and being stoked to have him as the new Jedi hero. I thought he might be a Kyp Durron like character or something. Nope, they screwed the pooch.
The idea of a force sensitive stormtrooper was electrifying. Did he just find the lightsaber and wasn't destined for it? Even that would have been cool. We wanted a journey. To see him rise to the adventure. But they wasted him.
My entire family used to make Star Wars an event. We'd line up to watch the movies in theaters and used to get excited to get together in one house to watch Mando. Not one has brought up the Acolyte or anything Star Wars recently due to how bad Boba Fett and S3 Mando were. Ahsoka was boring and the Acolyte doesn't look nor feel like Star Wars to any of us. We don't even talk about it anymore. I basically only plan on watching Andor S2 with a few friends and that's really about it for me and Disney.
Would the fans not enjoying a product be the result of the product being faulty, no of course not obviously the consumer didn’t appreciate the product to begin with
How dare Disney go out and call anyone anything? Who the hell made them the arbiters of all that is right and good in the world? They are a tin pot corporation that is making cack handed attempts at social engineering. These same fans all loved Star Trek TNG which was the most diverse show probably ever made so their line about these fans being racist is disgusting. I have gone from indifferent to just flat out boycotting all their products. Everyone should do the same.
As an 8-big Minecraft sheep, I refuse to watch this show because it cares so little about sheep representation. Overall, I find their lack of sheep representation disturbing. I don’t want just one. Or two. I want manyyyyyy.
idk when star wars does something good, like andor, or the last season of the bad batch. i be sure i say it. then when i say i didn't much care for mando s3 or obi-wan. the message is this is what's good, this is whats not, do more of the former and less of the latter. if you are any kind of artist, and you put that art forward for consumption, criticism is a certainty. if you cant learn from your failures you will never get good at it.
Although I definitely liked the first six episodes, episode 7 is rather flat. The acting is flat. The conflict and resolution don't feel logical; I believe the Jedi would handle this situation better and back away from the conflict. It may be that real-world conflicts are not logical either, but this was not the payoff I was hoping for. It is hard to root for heroes when the heroes irresponsibly run off half-cocked.
The restaurant review comparrison isn't really legitimate, alot of poor online food reviews, especially by "food influencers", are attacks because the "reviewer" weren't treated like gods. But yeah, this aticle is bull
Used to watch COLLIDER often. Sure not everyone agrees on every thing? They lost me on an episode of "Jedi Council" group reaction to Return of the Jedi. (Which was a long-term segment) So after months of sitting on the "Council" it was revealed that one of the "Masters" at 40 plus years old had never sat down and watched anything other than clips or memes of ROTJ. Now me personally? Would be a horrible individual to film reaction videos. I don't blink. Try to soak up everything. This person's first viewing was ANYTHING but a "getting lost in the story" experience? And then continued on giving his self -perceived sage-like options about said materials. 🙄
There were fans who flamed Disney Star Wars early on because of some culture wars grievance, that’s true. But the problems with Disney era Star Wars is totally different - great to have more women and people of all ethnicities! That’s not remotely the issue.
Honestly it is a bad look for Disney to be so sensitive. But a I have no sympathy for work I feel should be better and I am willing to do better if given a job. I want Disney to have a thicker skin but they have onion skins. They are old and smelly at that with the cliches they drop on line. I have stories to out pace The Infinity Saga! Give Hope a chance and give fans the Lucasfilm movies they deserve Disney/ Lucasfilm! Have Hope fans!
It was racist. But that was George Lucas on which the behind-the-scenes video clearly show him specifically referring to Stepin Fetchit giving directions to Ahmed. It may have been okay during the time in ‘77, but it looks pretty bad. It’s as if George was telling him to be more like a minstrel show.
Blaming the fans for a bad show is crazy. You make a show to please the audience. Your target audience is Star Wars fans. So when you create a show that messes with Star Wars lore to fit your own views you’re not going to please Star Wars fans. The simple solution to this is to stop using big name titles to do this and instead just create a completely original concept. Same with things like the Witcher.
I don't disagree with her points, but there is an additional level of hate that is piled on top of the normal criticism that makes this group particularly worse. For example, I don't see hour long video essays made about why Fast 9 is terrible, but I have seen them of Rings of Power long after the show ended. That is one example that reflects the bigger picture. Because here is the thing, bad media gets released all the time, but the constant cycle of hating specific things while using the same anti-woke talking points over and over again is real, and it does add a toxicity to the environment. (I'm not saying this reflects Nerd Cookie). If you don't like a thing, don't like it. But just move on with your life. But this group just piles on the hate over, and over, and over. Disney needs to make better content, but their "fans" need to stfu more when they don't always land it.
I actually agreed Star Wars has some of the most pathetic fans on earth. They wait patiently for something to come out only to bash it. Many of them are bandwagon fans they feel how ever they are told to feel about new content by content creators
Come on now. You know that the Star Wars fanbase has been incredibly toxic. Extremely vitriolic in its critique and not afraid to attack people, not opinion. And it is know to go after actors and creators on a deeply personal level.
