Without Marcia Lucas, Star Wars would have been another footnote in the history of film. A handful of people would have gone to see it in May of '77, then by June it would have been pulled from theaters and George would have gone and done something else. There would be no Episode V, much less the prequels, EU, and whatever has happened since Disney bought it.

I get the sentiment but I believe the reality is a bit more complex than saying "Disney as a corporation is evil and greedy" I mean a corporation can't be greedy because a corporation isn't a conscious entity. But of course it consists of many people who are conscious. And sure there might be greedy people among them. But I'm also sure even those people are aware that the best way to make more money is to deliver a product their costumers will enjoy. And they probably each have their own ideas about what that would entail. But of course nobody knows upfront what will or won't be successful. Each person is a cog in the machine and they all need to need to make sure the machine keeps running. So of course they need to make a lot of money. You don't want to be the one responsible for the decline of a multi billion dollar company with over 200.000 employees. The problem is the same as always. Disney is run by humans. And humans are fallible and have (in a general sense) no idea what they are doing most of the time. But that is a problem we have in all layers of society, not just Hollywood. So Disney = evil? Idk, I get the feeling they are just trying to survive, just like most of us.

I stopped watching star wars stuff after Kenobi. So nothing to be sad about when not watching the new stuff anyway. They will learn if the franchise goes to crap. And if not maybe I am wrong. Who knows.

Tell me about it. I passed that point a long time ago, and the same with Doctor Who, Star Trek and Marvel films. Star Wars is just something I loved in the past now, and the past tense. So nothing made now, going forward or in the future with the Star Wars name, stirs any interest in me at all. And it wont get my money, as I know the people involved do not deserve it. They hate me, as I am a white, straight male. So why would I pay people who despise me, have contempt for me, and the films and shows I like?

This is what I learned getting old is. You build something up, new people come and tear it down because you are old and they want to take your idea and make it theirs.

Thank you for pointing that out. She literally changed the entire plot of A New Hope into what we know today by rearranging all the scenes. She didn't work on episodes 1, 2, and 3, which explains why they feel so different from episodes 4, 5, and 6.

I think the other interview where she directly states that she puts her activism into everything she makes is more relevant to the criticism of choosing her for this position. Maybe she plans on inserting honor killings into wookiee society so she can explain to everyone that it's a bad thing to do.

Yes, perhaps in that extreme scenario in Pakistan, she needed that belief, but she's not going to switch gears when she's in the western world. Frankly, very few people can do that as it is. Requires a lot of therapy or consultation with family and friends over a long period of time to realize the environment you were raised in has molded your beliefs and they may be destructive to your relationships with others.
