Star Wars: Legion - Game Play 1 

and here i am, 2 years later... watching this video. I bought the Clone Wars core set 2 weeks ago.

I watched a lot of "How to play videos" including yours. There's nothing awful about them. It's just I understand a lot more when I see the actual game being played. This helped me understand the rules a ton. Thanks so much!

This was easily one of the best play throughs I've seen of this game so far! Very well done! I originally thought I had caught a couple nitpicky rules things, but after double checking, I was mistaken. So I included them here anyways in case anyone else gets confused. 1) Around 13:30, the trooper unit had one suppression token after the rally check. If they were within range 1-3 of Luke (the commander) then they could use his courage value (3) (but only for checking whether they were panicked). I think this means that rebel trooper units near Luke can stack up to 5 suppression tokens and still just be suppressed and not panicked (though as soon as Luke dies, they will be very panicked). 2) Originally thought the speeder bikes Impact keyword should have converted the 2 hits to crits, but the Impact conversion comes in the timing chart after applying dodge and cover. Awesome video, can't wait for more!

I'm not too sure what the next command card is to play, but if you can move your Airspeeder between his two Stormtrooper units (with one unit in your rear arc) using the mandatory move, and then take two attack actions with two weapons each time, you might be able to clear the left flank soon and control that objective. Additionally, you may draw his attention away from the other two fronts and then strike hard on those ends. You may consider using _My Ally Is the Force_ to give the Airspeeder a dodge token (as suggested by *Star Wars Tabletop Gaming*). Alternatively, you can use _Ambush_ to go as quickly as possible - the flavour text is rather appropriate for this plan :). I'm not experienced enough to know if it is worth risking the Airspeeder, but I know it will be a lot of fun to watch!

From many many years of playing 40k. Your next round should be focusing on objectives. Remember you can win with 1 single model left on the board, if you have the most victory points. In this case control of the objectives.

I can't really tell where Luke is in the video, but I assume he is within range 3 of at least two rebel troopers units. Play Return of the Jedi. Give your air speeder and your troopers with the impact weapons the tokens. Your first move is to place your air speeder between the AT-ST and the land speeders. This will allow you to utilize both your weapons. One against the AT-ST and one against the speeders. You will also be likely targeting the rear of the AT-ST so if he turns to attack back he is giving Impact 1 to all your other units. This should cause some chaos in his backfield that you can use to clear objectives and claim your own. Try your best to maximize the suppression removal of the card so that your troopers can act freely. They are going to be your best sourcefor claiming objectives.

Good play through guys! I really enjoy your channel! One advice for Pep. Make sure when you move your Speeders you're moving the leader, you accidentally moved your non-leader unit. Granted it's not a huge deal as the leader ended where it should have for it's compulsory move. As for Rodney, I would advise to try and get objectives next round, and station as many units as you can. Moving your Support and Heavy near last so you can wipe out the imperial pigs, if Pep gets too cocky.

I could watch you guys play the phonebook.

Sounds like you were asking for suggestions on what the rebels should do, so I'm going to suggest taking the initiative. Don't worry about being able to chose who goes first, just take whatever chance gives you and tackle a single Imperial unit. Try to stay out of sight of the ATST and completely annihilate a unit of storm troopers.

Question for the community ----> I'm combining the 2 starter sets together, should I... A) put the Droids with the Stormtroopers? or B) put the Stormtroopers with the republic clones. On one hand we have light/dark side cohesion, on the other we have visual cohesion

Really enjoyed this video, continues to help me with understanding the game. One minor thing i noticed and that I would have given my opponent a bad time (nicely) about twice, once on the rebel side, when moving the suppressed unit behind the barricade and when the Empire player was doing his move behind the rock when moving the rest of the squad into cohesion you pushed the leader further out than he already was, this could have actually pushed him farther than he actually could have moved. Pretty minor thing, just want to make a note. I am very much looking forward to the next one!

A little late to the game (nothing new for me) but I'm seriously considering my first Legion purchases (Clone Wars era I think) and these videos have gone a long way to convincing me I'm gonna love this game. ...and now it's time for my nerd to show. Did anyone else notice the mistake on Luke's character card (I spotted it at 21:20). His weapon is listed as the (Blastech) DL-44, which was actually Han's weapon whereas Luke carried a Merr-Sonn Model 57. I know, I know... I'll just go back into my hole now :p Great set of videos fellas, I'll be subbing for more recent content :D

Nice, I'm really interested in this game. The only thing that bums me up it that it's too dice dependent. What I liked about Armada was the fact that you didn't use dice to defend yourself.

I'm afraid I'm still too newb to pick a next command card, though thematically I'd suggest giving luke the extra attack command so that he can wreck trooper face :). But seriously, I love this play through guys. Thank you for all of the info you are posting on this game! My wife and I will be picking this up tomorrow and we are super excited. Looking forward to round 2!

Just picked up my copy and found something interesting on suppression. A unit that has a suppression token improves it cover by 1 when defending against a ranged attack

22:42 I think you HAD to assign it to your leader. Fixed front means you can hit only units in the front arc. It looks like if you draw a line down the ATSTs left arc line, you’ll barely catch the leader, but no one else in the unit.

Alright, for the command phase play any of the command cards specific to luke skywalker except for 'Return of the Jedi'. Show Pep those two cards and have him pick 1. If he's smiling or laughing when he picks, choose the card he didn't pick. If he does not do so, again pick the card he didn't pick. If he pauses and then smiles or laughs, pick the card he chose. By smile, i mean a noticable one. While Pep's busy using the AT ST, you can plan ahead which area to want to attack. 1(A) Considering you played 'Son of Skywalker', order Luke and go crazy with him. Mow down the AT ST or Darth Vader with either 1 saber throw and 1 blaster or 2 blasters. Just dont use 2 saber throws. Using 1 move action, and 2 attack actions (because again you played 'Son of Skywalker'). Don't trust your dice rolls? Can't blame you. 1(B) Play 'My Ally is the force' and again, go crazy. Put dodge tokens to luke and the weakest trooper units. Don't let Pep's AT ST gobble up those weak units. The rebel troopers are well known for being 'Nimble' and that's why you should use them for hit-and-run operations. 2. Speaking of which, assuming you survive the AT ST or you luckily mowed it down, use the strongest trooper unit (the unit with the most upgrades) to capture an objective. Just don't take any chances with your weak units (the units with the least upgrades and yes, I was talking about this kind of trooper unit earlier). OK, 3. chances are that Pep moves up a trooper unit or activates Darth Vader and really screws you. No worries. Use the weak trooper units to mash Darth Vader to pieces, if he wasn't already so. 4. What if gets two objectives? Use the Airspeeder or AT RT to retaliate and hopefully chase Pep off an objective. 5. What if Pep just retaliates with speeder bikes snd you played 'Son of Skywalker'?! Relax. Beat the snot out of him with luke's saber throws, blasters, lightsabers etc. If that doesn't work use the second weakest trooper unit and finish the job 6. If both Darth Vader and the AT ST have not been defeated, use the Airspeeder or AT RT and take them out, trying to use the AT RT if you want to be conservative. 7. Try to hold at least 1 objective. Nice video. Make sure you are in base contact with the barricades for cover. Technically you did not have cover for the Speeder Bike attack so only one die should have been removed. Also, did that speeder to the left actually have vision to anyone? Possibly only the leader? Look forward for part 2. At the last attack with the troopers with ion, it has Impact 1, remember to change 1 hit to crit . Though the same results would have happened, it is best practice to remember impact as that dodge could have been useless if you had only crits.

Sure wish the Blue guys and Red guys in DC would fight/play this way.

probably use My Ally is the Force, throw one on the ion troopers and the ones closest to the AT-ST.

At the 16:40 ish mark you shoot the troopers with the speeders. Now, I’m not completely fluent with the the rules yet but I thought line of sight was drawn from each model, and range from the leader. Which means the second speeder couldn’t fire. Also don’t their weapons have impact, turning some shots to crtis and ignoring cover?

What table are you guys playing on? Looks different than the one you use for other games?

I am curious as to why you chose to equip Saber Throw on Luke. The 2 red dice from his DL-44 is as good or better than 3 black dice from a thrown saber. I would have chosen Battle Meditation or even Force Reflexes. I know Luke won't get the same mileage out of Force Reflexes that Vader will, but it can give Luke a clutch dodge token when he really needs it.

Did you exhaust the Ion Trooper card after firing or did I miss it? It does have that symbol in the corner.

Great video! Apologies if this is a silly question, I haven't played this game at all yet, but the AT-ST Mortar Launcher looks like it has a minimum range, but when you fired it at the Rebel squad, you didn't appear to check whether it was too close? Am I misunderstanding the card?

is this game being played with one core box (besides the speeder and at-st)? I know you said for "tournament-legal" armies, you need two core boxes (edit - I was wrong, ignore that last bit)

guys in the rules after you place an activate on a unite i thought you couldn't do anything else until the next turn on that unit you activated?

If the only model in LOS of attacker is the leader, doesn't that mean that the leader has to die and another model is now promoted. AT-ST only had LOS of leader at 8:50

Where do you get the "orders" from? Can't figure it out....???? There were no "order" cards in my box.

FFG x-wing-armada vs GW WH40k rule set makes for actually pretty good system vs WH40K roll of a dozen D6's, and re rolled D6's for defense in a filtering down process of confusion of D6 dice rolls to figure out if any damage or wounding occurs and so forth.. FFG seems to have a better(simpler) system of defense dice vs attack dice with results clearly on the dice themselves. FFG has a clear edge here. If the game had come out with pre-painted figures.. OMG .. its Game over.. hands down FFG Legion table top GOTY(game of the year).

Play son of Luke and activate Luke kill the atst before it activates. Then take a shot at those speeders before ducking into cover. Laugh manically in a yoda fashion whilst destroying the empire.

Imperial PlayersDarth Vader has Relentless which reads, After you preform a move action, you may perform a free attack action. Because of Luke Skywalker, you may think Darth Vader is limited to a melee attack. He is not. Saber Throw gives him a ranged attack. Darth Vader could, move as a first action, move again as a second action, then as a free action Force throw his lightsaber.

Minor rules note, not technically a violation but something that may have been missed. @21:54 you show that the AT-ST has General Weiss piloting it. That means the AT-ST has Arsenal 4 (2 from Weiss, 2 from the AT-ST card. Keywords like Arsenal stack.) This means the AT-ST can actually use all 4 of its weapons. It could have done more attacks previously and also Pat said @7:00 that he had Arsenal 2 so I'm guessing he didn't realize he was only using half of his potential weapons.
