Now that Star Wars Resistance is over, it's time to look back at the entire series. How was it compared to The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels? Here are my thoughts.

It was an okay series but I still feel like there were ALOT of plot points(both potential and already existing) that should have more development by the end, to name a few: - Kazes parents (and their possible conection to the FO) -The pirates -Yeager and his brother -The backstories of like half the aces -The siblinds and that arceologist -Nena

Troy It’s because you don’t go into it with an open mind. You go in thinking it’s going so suck and be horrible (like many did with Rebels) and then it was way too weak in the first season (like Rebels AND TCW) and just never finished. I bet resistance will never hold a candle to Rebels or TCW and seems like it’s filler nonsense (I haven’t seen it yet), but who knows. I might end up enjoying it at least a little. Certainly not as much as I did Rebels and TCW, but that’s probably because it was too short.

Now that I've actually been able to watch the show, I can say it had good characters and good ideas behind it. But it felt like it never got to develop into anything real because as the sequel trilogy developed there just wasn't room for Resistance to do anything. It feels like Resistance was a casualty of the fact that the sequel trilogy wasn't wholly thought out before hand and if the show was made after the trilogy was done instead of before, it would have been much stronger.

Not to mention, it really feels like both Disney and Lucas film didn't have much faith in the show. They didn't make much merchandise for it, didn't really advertize or talk about it that much online and, it got a 10:00pm Sunday time slot (which most of the target audience is probably in bed because of school in the morning).

For me it was a refreshing take on Star Wars that wasn't trying to be focused on the main characters from the Skywalker saga. The Force, the Jedi and the Sith weren't a major focus either. To me Disney is at it's best when it can get out of things we've seen before from Star Wars and create new ideas. Is the show kid friendly? Absolutely. But it fleshes out all the new characters to satisfying arcs. My 3 year old son loved watching it with me and that made me feel happy watching it more. When The Clone Wars concludes, I'm excited to see the new places Star Wars will go. The Skywalker Saga or shows tied to it are wonderful, but it's time to move on to new ideas.

I agree to a point. There is only so much disney can do due to the strict plot guidelines of the prequel OT/ST. They can’t really just invent new sith and jedi and they can’t kill certain characters (a huge problem of the Clone Wars). I think this show did what it accomplished. However I think this show lacked a lot of the charm of even the early seasons of Rebels and CW. And not having as much lightsaber action definitely hurt it.

It makes so much sense. There are so many characters that feel underused and that could have had great story arcs: Kaz's father (who could have been in cahoots with the FO), the two orphans, the old archaeologist, the Resistance agent, the Nikto girl that turned out to be working for the FO, etc. I would have liked to know the Aces better, and not only Tora and Hype. I do like it, but I am skeptical that the two-season thing was the plan. Season 2 leaves a lot of things on the table (like Kaz's dad stuff) that leads me to believe that there was supposed to be another season. I don't know if that means that Season 2 was supposed to be exactly like it was and then there would be a Season 3 after it, or if the second half of Season 2 (and especially the finale) were Season 3 episode concepts that they moved into Season 2 to give it a proper ending.

Sadly, I have to disagree. I gave this show all the benefit of doubt I could but it’s just underdeveloped. Resistance spends a lot of episodes on world and character development but it doesn’t develop its characters until Season 2. Season 1 is just filler most of the time. The other problem is show’s focus on Caz. He is an interesting character and I loved his chemistry with Torra Doza but his arc with her doesn’t lead anywhere. But Caz is clumsy to the point of complete incompetence. In Clone Wars there were older Jedi, Rex and Cody to offset Ahsoka, Jar-Jar or shiny clones. In Rebels the whole crew (except for Hera but she got her time in the last season) had goofy and heroic moments balanced. There was never any question of main cast competence in older show. But there is in Resistance.

Not gonna lie Hera was pretty funny when she was drugged with the Truth Serum although it was really short. She was tripping so hard 😂. That’s how they should’ve handled the comedic parts of the show instead of dumping it on Ezra with the “I think I’m going to need more training” line.

You touched on the point I wanted to make about Star Wars Resistance. In the first season, Kaz was a young, cocky Republic pilot, who had to high of an opinion of himself. Put when thrust into his 1st, actual Resistance mission, he stumbles hisbwas through getting the information the Resistance needed -- The First Order wants control of the Colossus as a refueling platform for it's expansion into the Outer Rim planets. He also learns that the First Order is prepared to destroy any and all supporters of the Resistance and Republic who fight against the First Order -- including the inhabitants of the Colossus. They want the ship. In the 2nd season, the Colossus is on the run, being hunted by the First Order. This puts a strain on the ship and it's inhabitants. They need food, water, fuel, and replacement parts to keep operating. This means risking capture to find what they need. Kaz has to step up and not only help turn the racers into a defense squadron, but also lead missions to find the supplies the Colossus needs. In the end, he begins to get his 'space legs' under him and becomes a capable Resistance agent. It is his 11th hour message, telling the Colossus to run and save itself from an impending First Order attack, that convinces the Capt. Doza and the Colossus inhabitants that always running from the fight, that must happen, is no way to live.

With the show being set too close to the events of Episodes 7, 8, and 9, there was no time to really do much of anything to add to the story. And, that is the major problem with it, and why it only lasted two seasons. It couldn’t go anywhere.

Yes, it was aimed at kids, and if we didn't know by now, that's kind of Star Wars's thing: Kids are supposed to be able to grow with the show and vice versa. But I too loved Resistance. Let me count the ways: - The animation style: I loved the 3D flat-shaded models, it was like a living comic book. - Subtle depth to the characters and their personal growth. They were always showing us a little more about them, if I paid attention. At first I thought they leaned very heavily on the "Niku is very literal" thing, but especially by the end, you know he's aware of so much more; he has good ideas and a real heart to him. - High-quality running gags: The janitor with the angry goggles, the Gorgs, the Fireball, Aunt Z's patrons, new droids with distinctive quirks. Whole expanded universes have been made from less. - A conclusion that was both high-stakes and very personal / character-focused. - Beautiful locations. - Good writing / voice acting / Hitting the right emotional notes. - Tough choices made by the characters. - Tie-ins everywhere, without the fan service being too obvious. The connections were just melded into the world, left there to be discovered as easter eggs. - Consistency: Yes, I would agree. Filoni's earlier work had hits and misses that built up to something incredible, given just a little time, and I noticed the series beginnings didn't always have the strongest start. I think as his career goes on, he's getting me hooked earlier and earlier in each new series, and the quality is more even. Resistance included. Everything gets better with age. - True to the heart and soul of Star Wars: Lucas set out to make a bunch of Saturday Matinee sci-fi serials for kids with morality tails in them; Resistance carries the torch in an authentic way. It wouldn't be Star Wars if it didn't do that, but it does it and does a good job of it. If there were to be a continuing story for these characters, I would for sure want to pick up with them again. Thank you Lucas, thank you Filoni, thank you Resistance.

Its possibly because the section its set in isn't quite as developed as Star Wars' other stuff are (just the problem with the sequel trilogy era as a whole). Even without that, there are things that could've developed way better if given time and made less goofier. Still, I enjoyed this show and I feel the concept works, namingly seemingly everyday pilot in a even mundane settings gradually inspiring the people to fight for the common good.

I definitely agree! After finishing both Clone Wars and Rebels, I was looking to see if there was any more Star Wars content I could indulge in. I did remember hearing about Resistance, but again, heard about it being more for children. So at first I wasn't going to watch it, but I decided against it and in the end I really enjoyed the series itself. I think I prefer Season 1, since it felt like each episode was building onto something and the Season 1 finale was pretty hype in my opinion. Although, even though Season 2 was also pretty fun, I definitely have to agree that it felt like it had more filler episodes and most of the time had the crew spend their time running from the first order and there wasn't really a lot of development like there was a Season 1. Still, the finale was pretty satisfying overall, but I feel like Season 2 could have been better. Season 1 had a whole mystery to it and a danger for Kas and his secret of being part of the resistance, so I was hoping that we would get more references to the movies, but even then, I enjoyed everything overall and now I'm going to probably fill my Star Wars itch with weekly episode of the Bad Batch and hopefully we'll get trailers for upcoming Star Wars shows soon!

This is almost exactly what I tell anyone that wants to get into Clone Wars or Rebels, "endure the first season and a half to two seasons". because they are childish in nature but after that they pick up. you're right these shows tend to grow with their audience, and this is coming from someone that didn't start watching Clone Wars until season 5 then went back. I saw how well it progressed from this disjointed tone of a show to what it became. I started watching Rebels and I stopped watching it because of how childish it was but then I started picking backup with Ahsoka being reintroduced and then Admiral thrawn came in and then it just continue to find its stride. I find that a lot of the times these Disney Star Wars shows are finding their pacing within the first season and 1/2. they're putting Filler episodes because they're trying to attract younger audience while still putting in these good plot points to keep the older audience there and after a while they find that perfect balance, because these kids that are 11to 14 are no longer just there to watch the little goofball characters make their dumb little mistakes but want to see where their characters are going and invested in the story. Given that they decided to cancel it after two seasons, chances are I'm not going to watch this show. it felt like it was aimed to a young audience and it looks like they canceled it before (once again I believe) they would have found their stride. But I'm always excited to see what Star Wars shows are going to come out next. I'm looking forward to the final season of Clone Wars, I'm looking forward to this rumored Rebels sequel. it won't feel like a new show trying to find its pace. they know where they're going, they know what tone there trying to hit, and we know these characters so if they try to revert them back to what they were, it won't feel right and will fail.

The thing I've learned about Dave Filoni when it comes to the animated work he's done, is this. When it starts, no one likes it, and they especially start hating on the new main character that's introduced. Then over time people start liking the characters. Let's look it over. (The Clone Wars Movie): Ahsoka's first appearance where people criticize the character for being way too annoying. Some even seeing the movie as an unnecessary add on to the prequels. As the show starts to gain a few seasons people grow on Ahsoka and now she's an important character. (Rebels Season 1): Ezra Bridger is criticized for being an Aladdin knockoff and the Clone Wars had become a major part of star wars by this point. When Disney canceled the show for a new series fans weren't thrilled to see Rebels. The posters especially were not convincing. By the end of Season 2 the show became something to be memorable. It showed Ahsoka against Darth Vader, something fans wondered for a long time. Some clone wars purists still hate the show, but atleast they acknowledge the series. Dave Filoni is the opposite of JJ Abrams. Where as JJ is good at starting something, (Lost Season 1 and Force Awakens) he's not so good at ending it. (Lost Season Finale and TROS) Dave is good at doing the opposite. Where it starts up slow but then gains momentum. So I'm positive that Resistance would've had the same thing had it continued. My personal guess is that Lucasfilm wants to focus on other projects like the mandalorian and kenobi. Since people tend to favor those now rather than another cartoon series. But since Ahsoka is coming back in the Rebels Sequel it will be interesting to see how her story ends.

Seems sorta like they wanted to make a show in the Resistance time period but were limited since the movies hadn't been written. I think they did the best the could to tell a story about Resistance fighters without being able to tie it in to the overarching story. Now that the Skywalker saga is done, it will be nice to see where they can go. Last time they gave us the World Between Worlds. This time...who knows.

It's okay if you thought it was Luke-warm (lol), you don't need to love everything SW that comes out. Personally I thought it was OK. Definitely was aimed for a younger audience, but I watched it all anyways. Also wanted more connectivity with the larger rebellion (err resistance?) But it was a good ending for the contained story.

I don't know, I get what you're saying with the spark of resistance, but the story just feels so unconnected by the end when it was more connected in Season 1, and there are still some hanging threads. All I'm asking for is a half Season to get some resolution on Kaz's family still being alive (They could be the main threat since their survival only makes sense for them to be aligned with the First Order, or maybe they want to leave The First Order and need help.), Nena returning after maybe having a bit of a run in with the First Order trying to kill her, and then have either the members we know to be part of that final battle leaving to join the Resistance proper or have the Colossus receive the Palpatine transmission (We get to hear all of Obi-Wan's message to the Jedi in Rebels, why not have Palpatine's in Resistance?) and get the call from Lando to join the fight. We don't need to see the battle from their point of view, and I know that Rebels had the personal story of Lothal as its finale instead of Scariff, which makes perfect sense, and we got that with Resistance's Finale, but there's just something missing for me. We even see at the end of The Rise of Skywalker that some ships were out above other planets. Maybe after Kaz, Tora, and Yeager leave to join the fight above Exogol, a First Order ship arrives over the Colossus' new home and they have to fight their own final battle, too, because how else did those ships blow up? Plus, Synara's a pirate, she could convince everyone to salvage the destroyer they blew up in Season 2, and then the Aces teach more people to be pilots with ships they find or manufacture from the wreckage, and now you have an even better chance of survival. It's a retread of ground already covered, but there's just that connection missing, and if they wanted to still stay with the Colossus, that's a way to do both. If it wasn't there in the First Season, then I think I would be fine, but because the connections to the movies were made, I feel we needed more of that. The show just had so much potential. I'm not overly attached to it, but I do hate to see it end so quickly when there are plenty of ideas to keep it going. Obviously, it doesn't make any financial sense to do so since it does seem suspicious that Season 2 occurred exactly as planned if the ratings were high enough in Season 1, but then again, Disney+ is a thing and we could get that Half Season tacked on there. Now that it will be on a more accessible platform for people that were weary of Resistance and have cut cable for various streaming platforms, this is their chance to see what the show was capable of.

Inthink that resistance had a lot of potential and did enjoy it for what it was. However, I took a moment to reflect after the end amd I was wondering, what exactly has changed? Yes, the colossus is on another planet but almost nothing had any consequences. Espacially Kazuta, our protagonist did not change at all in the entire time. He is still the same person he was at the beginning, to be honest. Yes, it might be aimed at kids, however you don't need to dumb things down for kids. Kids liked Darth Vader and he was not exactly made for kids. Which brings me to the one amazing person in this series: Tam. She had a proper character arc and showed everyone that not everyone who isn't on the „good“ side might still be good in parts. This really humanized the empire and first order and made them a far more compelling character (if you can call a faction a character) and made it more compelling rather than bucketheads to shoot or make jokes about. So, it had its stengths while I do not think it lived up to its full potential. It could have been so much greater

I don't find it hard at all to let Kaz be goofy. It's a kids show and the movies themselves have characters do similar things just less exaggerated because it's live action and not animation. I think Resistance could have absolutely gone on for at least another season, but I also think it ending right where it did kind of showcases it's strength. It dealt with the same themes as Rise of Skywalker but far more competently.

If Star Wars Resistance was cancelled it wouldn't have been planed. Danny Phantom was a show that got cancelled and you can tell that it was because there was a set up for one of the characters arcs the ep before the TV movie. Two the TV movie just comes out of no were in season 3. Star Wars Resistance was based on an anime most anime have stories that don't last more then two or three seasons. Star Wars Resistance is an anime that explains the short show. The season numbers don't prove anything either Star Trek Enterprise got cancelled after five seasons. Kaz gets a line in the movie tie in novel for The Rise of Skywalker as well.

Eh, the first season of Clone Wars had its silly episodes (mostly the occasional Jar Jar or droid episode) - but it was balanced out by epic war stories, deeper looks into popular Jedi & their respective clone commanders, and some pretty impactful messaging for kids & adults alike. While I understand why the clone wars is mostly regarded on its later seasons as it successfully builds off the bones of each prior season, Ive never understood the lack of appreciation & love for its first season. Theres some great content in that first season, and its content that simply wouldn’t exist in future seasons. Rebels on the other hand was a bit more kid focused in general however it nailed the character development down and its big moments & episodes didnt hold back. Resistance on the other hand doesnt really have either of the strengths. While the other shows had their “silly moments,” those moments were really just most of the show. Character development was pretty minimal. Unlike Ashoka or Ezra who were pretty annoying early on, Kaz is still pretty much the same character. Even the shows big mature moments dont inspire much change or motivation. The shows best moments are at best the average moments of both prior shows. Honestly I think its for the best the show ended early. Just because its “for kids” does not mean it needs to be constantly silly, stupid, or lacking in depth. Everything I really enjoyed as a kid and still enjoy today as an adult were things targeted at kids but also not afraid to handle mature subjects. Nor as a kid did I ever identify with the silly/stupid characters nor the “naive kid”. I identified with the heros who worked hard, matured, and pressed on when circumstances were tough. I didnt want to see “me” I wanted to see someone that I could become. Resistance may have become a better show as it went on. But if you need multiple seasons to do be good, its not really worth the resources imo. The first seasons in CW & Rebels have some great stuff that I cherish and go back to. While the best of both of those shows is in the later seasons, they had good foundations. Resistance ultimately did not.

I haven’t watched it, but I actually might, just because I love the style it was animated in. This kind of stylised 3D animation always makes me feel nice and it provides a great backdrop for sweet&sour stories. Because when in Rogue One everything goes FUBAR, they can’t go much darker with the lighting or grittier with the scenery, so it starts looking like a plastic set for a show. This style of animation allows for much more expressive storytelling

You're 100% right he created the show for kids. But nowhere in the prequels or in the originals did it ever feel like it was dumb down to the point of where these shows tend to start off at. Even in the prequels with Jar Jar Binks which was probably the only thing that I would say is childish because besides that you're dealing with politics which is the least childish thing to put in a Star Wars movie that's supposedly catered to children. George Lucas created this world not for the kids that want to hear about Chopper messing a mission up or Jar Jar Binks acting like a fool on the battle field, but for kids that want to think of a fantasy world beyond their imaginations. And I love him for that.

I really do think that Resistance had plenty more plot threads in mind to explore but Disney pulled the plug unexpectedly, probably as the production team was halfway through producing episodes for season two. Given how Clone Wars and Rebels evolved, I would argue that many of the characters that were introduced in "filler" episodes in season two were probably intended to reappear later in the season or in season three. Furthermore, the fact that the end of the series doesn't tie in with the events of Rise of Skywalker just goes to show how Disney either didn't plan this out very well or just didn't care about this show at all.
@icelike4157
@icelike4157 4 года назад
The reason I haven't watched it is because every time I try, the second I look at the screen I get a headache. I honestly hate the animation, there's no artistic style to, it, very unlike the clone wars which basically created its own art style. And I wish Disney would at least try to appeal more to older audiences outside of the movies, because the new trilogy was just kind of bland. They need to hire people with the intent of making the Star Wars universe whole, and with loving their work, not just trying to make money. I may sound very dramatic, but its almost unbearable to see the amount of money that just goes to waste, when it could become very amazing. And yeah, this show is directed towards kids, but Star Wars already worked so well with communicating with kids with the originals, if they don't like Star Wars by watching that, then they don't like Star Wars. If they didn't as kids, maybe if Disney tried advertising and calling back to the originals, they would enjoy them as older people. No matter what happens to Star Wars, there will still be people who love it, whether it be the originals, prequels, the new trilogy, or whatever this is.

Honestly, it was an enjoyable series overall, even if I would call it the weakest of the animated Star Wars series. I really think it would have been better if Kaz's character arc was more consistent. Part of what made Ezra so great was his character arc and how he grew as a character. Kaz kind of flip flops back and forth between maturity and being a clumsy oaf. As for the fact of it being only 2 seasons, I heard someone theorize that it may have been cut short to due to the complete change in story in Episode 9. I think it's a valid theory.
