Love seeing how useless the empire is without Palpatine, every officer stepping over the other to assume leadership and in doing so making it easy for a United New Republic, makes sense how the empire fell so quickly despite having the numbers.
Archangel980 WHAAAAT are you even talking about? That IS what Palpatine would rather have happen. Only the strongest survive in Sith lore. The next in line has to execute his/her lord to advance.
Darth Bane I understand they aren't intrinsically the same, however he's speaking about Palpatines absence and the order of things hence, in which Palpatine instilled Sith ideology.
@NoneOfThe Above oh crap watch out for the DCS folks. They will knock us out of the sky like it's duck hunt. Those guys don't play around. Team Cessna Microsoft Flight Simulator, Rogue Squadron, Star Fox here
The game is directed by Ian Fraizer who is an RPG nerd who previously designed Kingdom of Amalur. I was wondering if his experience and sensibility in the genre would translate to this game. Guess it does in some charming ways.
I dunno, the way the guy said it made me think he never played real flight sims before. It's cute in a baby's first immersive cockpit only flight sim way, but does not give me confidence that it is any different from any other flight sim with VR.
This game outside VR is just bad, but on VR is great. At least for me @ Quest 2 and RTX-3080 the details when you maxed out this game on VR are just fabulous, i'm in love with the cockpit of the TIE fighters :D
@@urbanxfrost certain review outlets get early copies they can play to review, and some games allow for reviews to be released before the game's release itself.
@Jacob Durkin I played a day early on Xbox by changing my region to New Zealand. It was still kind of tough finding games. I did get matched up against i am wildcat and cartoonz in one game though.
@@Alex_Logan22 *Shrugs* Fair point. I imagine this will be another game with regular content updates. Probably bring in more modes based on feedback. I think EA is still walking on eggshells in regards to Star Wars. After their missteps and with Disney breathing down their necks.
About what I expected and I'm happy with that. Firstly its a relatively cheap game but also I feel the single player "campaign" is there mainly to make sure players know the mechanics of the game and are familiar with each ship type as much as possible. Frankly, I think 10hrs is excellent.
@@thefallen4706 hellblade, the order, vanquish and im not sure about resident evil 3 remake, but i do kno its short. There are more im sure. Not all single player games are huge like ff7 remake, mass effect or open world games. Altho u can complete open world games much much faster if it wasnt for all the traveling and sidequest. So like i said.. a 8 hour tutorial is pretty big since its focus is multiplayer. Those who refuse to play multiplayer games are missing out on some of the best/most fun games.
@@martinmanley5303 Hellblade was an indie game, and every other game you listed got absolutely crucified by critics for being short. The Order was just a 4 hour movie. RE3 also got a ton of hate for being so short and focusing on a horrendously unbalanced multiplayer mode that no one cared about after a week.
I’ll believe the campaign is 8/10 when I see a play through. I’ve seen too many times where an 8 by an ign reviewer is equivalent to a 5/10 in reality Case in point: Mulan (2020) got an 8/10 Proceed with caution in your optimism
@@BoredOuttaMyMind I usually agree with most positive reviews from IGN, their Negative ones are sometimes wrong though. Death Stranding for example, game was a 10/10.
1980 DOS version X-Wing has been my all time favorite. Tie fighter vs X-Wing a close second. There was a remake recently that had a similar feel, but just the absence of visual lag / response time on CRT screens, and direct hardware control, has always been hard to beat. Same with Commander Keen and the original Doom.
I agree with the reviewer's comments about the game being a balance of arcade and simulator styles. It's pretty interesting what extra things you can do. You can even focus your shields on the front or the back of your ship. That's probably going to prove quite effective in multiplayer.
@@alexsumi dude, i'm asian. We didn't asked for it, cause we all know Empire wouldn't even recruit asian, we're small it's our gene, we can't even compete with westerns in sports lmao
2:26 Who is that actress? She sounds so familiar, but I can't remember where I've heard her from. EDIT: ALLISON SCAGLIOTTI!!! From "Drake and Josh" and "Warehouse 13!" It just came back to me lol.
The characters are pretty likable and interesting. Although, as the review points out, their dialogue is a bit clunky. Mostly, I think, because you're playing a silent protagonist and they have do most of the conversation themselves. It's smoother, when it's two or more of the characters chatting.
I'm someone who grew up on Star Wars: X-Wing (1993), Star Wars: TIE Fighter (1994), and Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance (1999). I loved those games and have felt there has a been a lack of SW flight simulator games as space combat in games since that era has given way to arcade style space battles. However this game looks interesting and am willing to give it a try.
Highly recommend the Quest 2 it’s the best headset at the moment to get into VR don’t even need a PC and it’s pretty cheap. Works on PC and PlayStation(much better than the PSVR)
There you are, playing the Single Player of your Sci-Fi Space Sim, and all of the sudden, you're an Imperial. You didn't ask for this. You didn't choose this. Yet there it is, and it's treated no differently than playing a Rebel. - Kotaku
Pops Turning in the game with a mouse and keyboard is so awful I got a refund because of it and the game was really buggy I wasn’t even able to connect to my EA account
Adjust the options menu mouse sensitivity and mouse movement range - They're pretty high by default requiring huge moves on average DPI, but I squashed them into a smaller circle in the middle of the screen and it feels a lot more responsive now. I too disliked the slow turn of ships in this game but I get why they did it. With fast turning, the game could probably promote turreting on low speeds, while slower turns make movie-like dogfights more probable. Takes getting used to but it's legit fun once I did, really solid game. And hey, we're discussing the merits of a AAA space sim (arcadey one, sure, but still) - WHAT YEAR IS THIS?!
I was sitting on the fence with this title, waiting for any news on the VR experience. After this review, it looks like it's worth getting if you already have a VR headset.
The problem with me in Star Wars squadrons game is that the two stories (empire and rebels) are way to similar it’s practically the same thing but the two difference are your with the empire or rebels and there are different missions. Another problem I have with the game is that your character does way to much and I know it’s a game but at least ha e your other members of yours squadrons do something right?
I think this game might be a test of concept. I would love for them to come out with another game with a more robust single player mode, like remaking x-wing alliance. If they come out w a DLC that lets me relive key battles from the movies I’ll totally be for it.
He recommends playing with a HOTAS system without mentioning the huge flaw of a 50% hard coded dead zone which basically makes a HOTAS unusable??? Are there any HOTAS systems that are not affected? I can't find any?
Idk how it is a missed opportunity. I don't see any other vehicular combat games having very heartfelt stories. I mean, Ace Combat's the only one o could think of.
It looks like there's no planet missions like the old rogue squadron games, like taking out a convoy. That's disappointing. Dive bombing tanks and stuff in VR would be fun. I'm a couple missions into the campain and it's impressive with my vr flight sim rig. It would be amazing to fly through iconic cities and landscapes though. Hoth speeders would be crazy.
I know we've done many times before in similar star wars games but with current gen graphics I want to do the stuff from the movies. I wish B-wings were in this and I'm hoping we might get snowspeeders and Both as DLC
Why would you not explain the controls in VR if you don't have a joystick? That's what I wanna know. I hate not having hands in VR. But regardless this is the kind of game I want.
lol okay so between this guy talking about the "nuance to things like adjusting your throttle for better turning" - which is characteristic of basically every vehicle you can drive in any game? - and the fact that he straight up runs into and bounces off that destroyer at 3:07 it's pretty safe to assume this was played on whatever is the easiest difficulty, right?
WHY NO FREE FLY MODE ?? Where you can just fly about on one of the maps and learn the controls. They should also have the option of flying on any map of your choice and set some AI opponents ...
Free flight mode & Bot vs match ?? That’s great, is this confirmed? I’d like a 1 v1 with a bot to see how that goes... If this be true happy days. Can’t wait to try with my VR
I’m so excited for this! I love space & starwars & geez, VR makes it so amazing. I honestly don’t see a point in buying this unless you’re gonna be using VR though.
Shame to hear single player jumps back and forth between the two sides as I've always found it pulls me out of the story when games do this. I'd rather be able to play through one side and then jump back in to play through the other side. It otherwise looks pretty nice though and I'm glad to hear and see that it's got some similarities to X-Wing and TIE Fighter as I loved those games.
So, it's a decent tech demo with a half assed story that will end up heavily monetized when ultimately multiplayer proves to be the only worthwhile reason to pick it up. Got it.
Thanks for this SP review and being so clear in the title. Generally avoid high-profile reviews for mixed SP/MP games because I could give a toss about MP. So this was useful to me.
Looks fun! My only complaint: the starfighters seem to be flying way too slowly at a leisurely 50 mph. If I'm attacking a Star Destroyer I'm going to be screaming past at like Mach 2 to avoid turbolaser fire & missiles.
