Pantheon Baker As someone that started out playing Imperial agent from day one, and then switched to Jedi Sentinel when they nerfed the crap out of agents I can say that the reason the game did as badly as it did in the pvp area is that Bioware was as bad at moderation as Blizzard is now.They nerfed the shit out of the stealth class straight away and then took ages doing anything about force users in melee.

***** Yeah, I remember back when that happened. I kept hearing how badly the operative was nerfed by people who would group up with me in pvp. I stopped hearing that when they saw my operative in action. Yeah, I wasn't having any problems. I was still fairly new to the class when it got nerfed, so I didn't see it in action before the nerf. However, if it got nerfed as hard as people said it did, it must have been a poison cloud of instant death. I'll bet though that it just wasn't nerfed that bad.

Well, did it? I tried the game a few years back, and felt kinda happy about completing every class story, never got around finishing Onslaught, because unlocking all characters required doing gimmicks you never wanted to do. Are all the new stuff they added since then just excuses to suck more money out of players, or is there at least a new story that we can call 'better than how the sequel trillogy ended'?

About the exact same thing happened to me in WoW (last expansion). It´s funn because it made me remember WHY i quit MMORPG´s in the first place...

They didn't make Kotor 3 because Lucas Arts didn't want Kotor 3, yes i said Lucas Arts. See after Kotor 2 Obsidon wanted to start Kotor 3 right away but Lucas arts wasn't happy with the sales. Yes it did pretty good and made a nice profit but studios are kind of weird. There is this thinking that game studios have that they would rather make either a huge profit or not make the game at all. They would choose no money over some money. It's really backwards but of course this is part of the reason why Lucas Arts was shut down. So Obsidon tried to get Kotor 3 for years all the way up until Lucas Arts shut down but Lucas Arts didnt think that old school single player RPGS would sell so they kept saying no.

Ya my last day of swotor was kinda similar. A genius tank was bitching at my because my jedi jump attack got me riht into the thick and this made him mad. Ya I died a couple times because I was agroing the enemies so I stopped leading the charge and acted more tactically by jumping and slaughtering the weaker support enemies while he went after the bosses. Then he yelled at me for not attacking the boss -_- Ya I told him that I hope he becomes a wookie's bitch and left to uninstall. The game was good for its solo focus but as a solo game it would have been so much better

Tabula Rasa Gaming The SWTOR was/is quite good. However, it could have been much better. That said, I'd say it would have done so much better as a single-player RPG with multiplayer elements. They totally could have sold the base game with all of the classes, races, and storylines as is, allowing people to adventure and experience the story for a single fee, no subscription, then used a subscription system purely for the multiplayer aspects. Personally, I think it would have been great if I could have bought the game for like 40-60 bucks and get to experience all of the storylines (outside of Flashpoints and Operations (their dungeons and raids)) without having to go online and have the option to pay a monthly fee or buy passes or whatever to access Flashpoints, Operations, and PvP (and the Galactic Starfighter, though think that's covered under PvP) while online. But than again, maybe I'm just crazy and the only person who thinks that idea would actually be good.

The thing is, as Yahtzee said, it's more of a first impressions. The only thing he got around to was Chapter 1 of the Smuggler story.

Putting storytelling in questgivers choked the story in comparison to the best RPGs. You look at episodic TV drama, or the best Bioware games, and it's all character-based. I played TOR an awful lot but I'm hardpressed to even remember characters from the different stories. I can name every companion from KOTOR 1 and 2 and describe their personalities. Whereas characters are peripheral in almost every facet of TOR's storytelling. Even if I do remember them, they're going to constitute less than 1% of the storytelling.

You can't see General Chat unless you pay extra. Yes, I'm fucking serious. You can still USE general chat, but you can't see it. And you can only type one message on it every 2 minutes or so. So you'll ask for help, and hope like hell somebody sends you a whispered reply. I also had some nice player mail me a crap load of materials for crafting, but since I was playing free, I couldn't accept the trade. I tried to send the materials back to her, and since I was playing free, I couldn't do that either. So she had given away all her shit to me out of the kindness of her heart for no reason whatsoever!

The game is actually still active and still producing story content, believe it or not, but it's in that weird nebulous state of "it's not technically canon anymore but we're doing it anyway" that I don't think any other Star Wars sub-property is doing. It's a bit strange.

Nowadays, you can actually level entirely off the story, plus a few distinct side missions, by making story missions give more EXP. Now most side missions are just if you want to have some extra gear or something.

aperturesciencegames Not necessarily, Star Wars Galaxies was actually a pretty standard MMORPG. The galaxies were all the same 12 9kmx9km maps though, and the space sectors were pretty small, too. The most impressive space map itself was Deep Space and the Kessel System, and I'll never be certain it was as big as I remember because I wasn't good at flying sims back then. The flying itself was what impressed me. That along with the player-town system made the game incredibly unique during its time. It's really a shame that it died for The Old Republic though, which I've yet to hear anyone reliable praise. I'm really hoping they'll add some of the better tweaks and systems to the emulator. Hell, even the zombie area on Dathomir would be kind of cool.

***** To be perfectly honest, most of what they did with SWTOR would have done MUCH better as a single player game. They could have just scrapped Operations, allowed you to take multiple companions into Flashpoints (and balanced them for that of course) and simply balanced each planet's elite areas to require skill, rather than just a group. Either scrapped PvP, or left in warzones (requiring internet of course) and added in some type of arena or tournament rankings system. Could have even did something like 5 dollars a month sub fee to do PvP tournaments and sold the game for 60-80 dollars. I bet they would have made a killing doing that, and most would have probably loved it that way. Or maybe it's just me that thinks this would have been cool.

Barholtworld I thought they did a pretty excellent job on having a mix between Good/Evil characters on both sides. Of course, the Empire had the lion's share of evil assholes while the Republic had the greater share of pure naive fools.

What martial arts and swordplay are you talking about? Most real swordplay/martial arts I've seen understand the need for shorter, more precise movements rather than the flailing that happens in the prequels, the only reason I don't really care that much about the spastic movements is because the EU explains why they do those. Though I guess a new explanation is now needed.

Now to clarify a bit, the only swordplay I've ever seen is fencing so perhaps its different with other styles but the fencing matches I've seen don't look anything like the prequel fights. I do not claim to be an expert on the subject

Jack Ream Which Fencing art: Foil, epee, saber? I really only learned Foil and the original trilogy fights look nothing like it. Besides the actor who played Darth Maul in Episode One performed a combination of martial arts to create that combat style. P.S. look up HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), anyone who uses foil, epee or saber in a real fight is laughable. against an unarmed opponent you will win. But against someone who doesn't use a 4 ft by 30 ft rectangle and armed with equivalent weapons, I would not put my money on the Fencer.

gilgamesh2399 As I said, I ain't an expert, but I think Sabre. I am aware that Makashi, the form Dooku uses, was based off of real fencing but I was unaware that maul was also using an actual martial art, that's pretty cool but I guess it makes sense in hindsight, he was the only reason I could stomach Phantom Menace. Had the potential to be a badass villain if they hadn't killed him far too soon.

I am not an expert by any means either, I just know enough to tell bull crap from the good technique. However I too was sad that they killed off both Maul and Qui-Gon Jin. They killed off the two most badass character in the movie!

It's the same for Sith Inquisitor except instead of lightsaber you just shock them. It would be awesome if the voice acting for their screams didn't suck
