The intro and gameplay of Star-Wars: X-Wing with improved general MIDI sound. Sounds much more like the actual movie soundtracks at times, doesn't it? ;-)
The soundfont is a custom one I edited together in Viena. I used instruments mainly from SGM-V2.01.sf2 and WeedsGM3.sf2, the two best in my opinion. Most of the instruments are from SGM, while some (such as the french horn, choir and flute) are from Weeds. I also took a hackish approach and edited moar reverb to some brass instruments, to make them sound more cinematic :-P
I used a custom build of DOSBox by Ykhwong, which has many additional features such as a FluidSynth-based synthetizer. That way I could easily capture the MIDI using DOSBox' own recording feature.
Star Wars: X-Wing was chosen for demonstration for its symphonic orchestra style soundtrack and its iMUSE system, which can alter the MIDI music on the fly depending on what's going on in the game.
