Former Starbucks barista here. For the parents concern about the sugar, I would make the kids a passion tea substitute water with coconut milk and some vanilla which has the option to be sugar free. Way less sugar still pretty tasty
I work at Starbucks and I’m completely desensitized to people adding literally 20+ pumps of syrup/sauce, cold foam, extra caramel drizzle, and tons of toppings. Like bruh it’s not the caffeine you’re feeling, it’s the quadruple daily amount of sugar you just ingested in one drink.
I worked at McDonald’s very briefly years ago. I had someone order a coffee with 20 or so pumps of various flavors. She must have seen my eyes glaze over in panic (I wasn’t trained for register/coffee, just assigned there one day). She was like “oh don’t worry, I actually work here too” and came behind the counter and made it for herself lol. I could not even. Working at McDonald’s sapped all my desired to eat/drink there and she was coming in and having that on her day off 🤣
I got a matcha frappe from Starbucks and I have type 1 diabetes and when I was about to take my insulin for it my blood sugar started getting higher so fast. I was like “There can’t be that much sugar in it! It’s not that sweet!” When we looked it up of course it was 74 carbs. I was shocked. It was a grande too! And now I know why we only go there like three times a year 😂.
@@whitemailprivilege2830 and you are going to Starbucks expecting fresh fruits and healthy drinks 😂😂😂 y’all don’t read ingredients before buying shit lmaooooo
As a Starbucks barista, I personally try to find the kindest way to inform parents they’re getting caffeine if I think it’s for a child, but some know and are fine with it. I’ve gotten a few dads chewed out when mom finds out they’ve been getting cute looking crack balls for their kids, it’s an innocent looking drink, I get it.
@@pheynx7573A drink doesn’t need 25g of sugar to taste good. Yes humans need sugar but natural sugar from fruits and veggies. Also, refreshers really only need like 1 teaspoon of sugar not 6.
I used to be a barista and that shit is terrible for you. I had a supervisor who would take all three free shift drinks plus another one to two drinks. I would warn him all the time that he better be careful drinking all that sugar because he’s going to end up with diabetes. He was blowing me off until about two months later when he told me that the reason why he had been feeling sick and ultimately ended up in the hospital for 10 days because he became a diabetic and didn’t know it. So here are some drinks that you should get for your kids from Starbucks that aren’t loaded with ridiculous amounts of sugar: Matcha Tea Lemonade: Order it as a grande Matcha tea lemonade with Half the amount of lemonade replaced with water and no syrup OR one pump of liquid cane sugar. Passion Tango lemonade: Regular passion tango lemonade but ask for no syrup and half the amount of lemonade Do not buy them any sort of Frappuccino because the base for the Frappuccino is loaded in a ridiculous amount of sugar and then on top of the base they add whatever flavor syrup corresponds with the Frappuccino. Don’t ever bother ordering the holiday drinks unless you’re going to get them half sweet. For example a normal flavored Grande latte takes four pumps of whatever corresponding syrup however a grande peppermint mocha takes 4 pumps of mocha +4 pumps of peppermint. Also don’t ever get their soy milk, it is vanilla flavored and super sweet. Same with coconut milk it’s ridiculously sweet. Instead opt for oat milk, almond milk, lactose free or just regular dairy. To be quite honest with you after working there for most of my late teens and early 20s I just don’t go there. Everything is loaded in sugar and over priced, the only time I ever go there is if I’m in a pinch or too lazy to make my coffee and even then I normally just get some sort of shaken espresso, iced espresso or latte with two pumps of their sugar-free syrups.
Im not trying to be that person but DRINK WATER!!!! My family started drinking only water since the beginning of this year and our sleep improved, energy, pee, and medical results I know it sounds hard but it really isn’t, if you are truly thirsty theres nothing like water 💧
Been doing that for years. i am not american though. In EU we do not have a cult of fast food and diets all over the eastern europe are quite healthy and full of good carbs, fats and protein
For some reason I just hate sugar. My parents never took me to fast food places and didn't give me sweet things like ice cream or juice that often, so I just don't have a sweet tooth. I can't even drink shit at starbucks since the coffee is too sugary so I just make it at home. And the most sugary thing I get at fast food places is their ketchup lol. And on top of that fast food just makes me feel like shit cuz my stomach can't take it. I'm genuinely grateful since I'm also a prediabetic.
No, it's the fact that many parents will go to Starbucks for a regular coffee and get their kid something that is supposed to be more kid friendly when it has held a red bulls worth of caffeine
@@steampunklurker8850 You're at a coffee shop!!! Caffeine is their main product!!! Stop blaming the stores and take responsibility. They sell juice in kid friendly packaging, water, or just don't give your freaking kids Starbucks. THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS.
Dude, just a reminder that’s it’s okay to drink your favorite drinks in moderation. You don’t need to scare people away from the drinks they love by showing them the sugar content. That’s kinda how an ED can starts. Sent with peace :)✌️
Thank you for your content! We need more videos like this to expose the food and beauty industries that are poisoning us. Most Americans aren’t even aware
I was a barista when the refreshers were first introduced. The caffeine comes from green coffee beans. Refreshers have coffee in them. I would always mention that to customers who were buying them for kids because Starbucks stopped advertising the coffee content.
@Sandra Andrews I agree Starbucks is way too expensive..especially after they said you have to buy more or they are increasing prices to get more start reward for free treats umm no thank you. I rather find recipes online and make mine at home ha ha.
Thanks to you Bobby I've understood that sugar is actually very harmful for us and have mostly cut it out of our diet down to 1% compared to what I used to intake a year ago. Again, thanks Bobby
Sugar includes carbs such as bread, pastas and potatoes. So, unless you cut those out as well, I doubt you're down to only 1%. I don't eat a lot of carbs and I eat more than 1% as I don't drink sugary drinks, I don't eat rice, I don't eat anything with bread or dough and I still consume carbs as I cheat once a week. I usually cheat with burgers or pizzas but never with any types of drinks. It started because I was getting fat, at least to me I was, as I went up to 170 pounds. I then cut out all carbs and basically became a vegetarian for 6 months where I didn't eat any sugars. After I got back down to 130, I started to cheat. I wanted to go down to 125 but, I felt that was a little too skinny. I'm now 140 as I'm not super skinny but not fat either.
@@saysoun752 hey know it all, it is called the Bobby approved app. And no one is here to watch your imput advice. Bobby was borderline sugar diabetic as am I. When I say I have "processed, non naturally occurring sugars" mostly removed from my diet, you can take that to the bank. #Troll
I make my own pink drink. Unsweetened tazo iced passion, coconut milk Unsweetened and then a "stir" brand stevia sweetener, just a little. Really good. Tastes just like it.
As someone that happens to love a strawberry açai refresher with lemonade, even though she’s diabetic and can’t drink it she would love a Bobby approved version
I make healthy versions at home for my kids. The only drink I would get for the kids in store is a iced passion tango tea (no added sugar) with lemonade (less sugar) and strawberry infusion. It’s looks like a refresher and wayyy less sugar and caffeine.
Bobby: "Hey can I film in here?" Starbucks employee: "sure!" Bobby: "They're lying to you!" "Don't spend your money in here!" Starbucks employees: 👁️👄👁️
I remember in high school when I started drinking Starbucks coffee habitually. I was often sick from the combination of sugar and caffeine and a small breakfast (pastry) that would end with me nearly passing out and nauseated at the nurse’s office. Never stopped my ignorant obsession, and eventually I gained a tolerance to its content, but looking back, I wish I learned how to enjoy coffee beverages without the need for caffeine and added sugar.
They also add citric acid which is a tyrosinase inhibitor meaning is inhibits the body from converting adrenaline to melatonin leading to sleep problems.
That stuff is poison. If you have a blender or a hand mixer, throw together some crushed ice, some milk or plant milk, some pineapple, some cucumber, some powdered ginger, and a touch of pink sea salt. SUPER refreshing
You’re the best Bobby! Thank you for all that you do! Opening so many eyes to outrageous foods & drinks we have at our disposal and giving alternatives that’ll keep people around longer & healthier, keep doing you man! Much love ❤
Its a fun drink to have with your friends in hot weather. It does have way too much sugar, but almost everything in USA has too much sugar. Even gerber baby puree has tons of sugar.
I love you roasting their drinks in the Starbucks sitting right by the counter right in front of the baristas. He was DEFINITELY within earshot they knew what he was doing lol
All that you talk about is great but you never talk about the sodium intake and foods and that is just as bad as sugar so give us some tips on sodium cause it’s bad for you also
Yes.. . LOTS of sugar, but added CAFFEINE is is many of their non-coffee drinks, so pay attention! Can be harmful to kids, or caffeine sensitive people .
Body armour lytes, especially the dragon fruit flavor are a healthy alternative! The pluebereg pomegranate one tastes like ice cold apple juice, actually refreshing without add sugar!!
I so resent that Starbucks is labeling these in such a misleading way; it shouldn't be allowed to call a drink açaí that contains no açaí - it's just a lie. I hope someone calls them out or sues them so that they have to stop these lies.
So many people don't realize they have caffeine. When I worked at Starbucks I would tell parents with a mixed response. Some were grateful I told them and some acted like I was trying to tell them how to raise their kids. 🙄
Having sweets sometimes isn't a problem. The sugar content here is only a problem if you're drinking this daily, multiple times a day. Better advice is to get your sweet treat in a small size after consuming water to actually quench your thirst.
Its a ton of caffeine for anyone let alone a child. My cardiologist says about a third of the tachycardia he sees is just caffeine overdose in most young patients.
