It took me a year to figure out how to make brown rice I actually like. Heat instant pot to medium saute. Rinse rice. Add to hot instant pot and water saute 3-4 mins. Hit cancel. Add water (1.25 cups per cup of rice). Cook high pressure 22 mins, 10 minute natural release. It's perfect every time. Brown jasmine and basmati work with this method as well!

Adding water before you put the mushrooms in cools the pan off making them take longer to cook. Let them cook without water, add Worcestershire sauce, let cook a little longer then use water to deglaze the pan if they are sticking.

For diversity, I like to mix my brown Basmati rice 50/50 with other grains. For example: I cook my rice for 26 minutes adding in for last 10 mins millet I have soaked overnight. or, for last 15 minutes quinoa I have soaked overnight or lastly for last 7 minutes buckwheat which has been soaked overnight. I don’t soak my brown Basmati as it doesn’t seem to benefit from being soaked. You can also combine the brown rice with Amaranth 50/50 and this is good too. Happy healthy eating! Much love Jane xx

Kiki, have you tried short grain brown rice. It’s far tastier than long grain. I cook it for 3 minutes on multigrain in the instant pot , then leave it to cook in its steam for 15 minutes, before natural release. Same with whole grains like buckwheat, oat groats, wheat berries. I just wanna mention, I was stuck for quite a while with my weight loss. I tried the half half plate but it didn’t work for me. I have now been eating 1-2 lbs of veggies a day , mixture of cooked and raw. I eat lbs in the morning before any starch. Same for my second meal. I think I was not eating enough cooked and it was Dr Mc Doughall on his fb page that cooked veggies ie soup plays a different role than raw . My favourite is the IP, air fryer and vitamix 😊
@GTMustang24
@GTMustang24 4 года назад
Plant Plotters Paradise you are right on about the short grain brown rice. I thought I didn’t like brown rice until I tried short grain. Now I really don’t like white rice anymore. I cook mine in the IP 22 min on manual and let it come down naturally if I have time. I’ll have to try your way and see if there’s much difference.
@plantplottersparadise4005
@plantplottersparadise4005 4 года назад
GTMustang24 Yeay 😊 Forgot to say rice/ water ratio 1:1.5 Let me know and if you try other whole grains that way . If ever they’re not cooked, just put IP lid back on and wait a bit longer
@vc6601
@vc6601 4 года назад
Love brown rice. I use any sort, tho usually medium grain coz that's the one that comes on special here. Cook it in the pressure cooker 20 minutes using just over one cup water to cup of rice, slow release. I used to use more water but found the grains on top were drier and chewy while those on the bottom ended up more sludgy and starchy. I love it drier and chewy so less water enables that. I know the calorie density is higher but because the digestion is slower it keeps me full longer and ends up pretty much the same as far as weight loss is concerned. A case of personal preference really. Do what suits and works; makes life simpler and more enjoyable.

I don’t like brown rice either and I’ve cooked it on the stovetop, instant pot and my Japanese rice cooker. Theres like a starchy coating on it that I don’t like. HOWEVER .... someone posted a method on fb and it’s delish!!! It smells like popcorn when it’s cooking. I love it!! You need a regular rice cooker though. 1 1/2c brown basmati rice 1/2c sweet brown rice 1T mirin Soak rice for at least 12 hrs. No longer than 20. Drain and put in rice cooker. Add 18 oz water and cook. So so good with none of that coating.

For the beans in the Instapot. What I’ve noticed is that you should always put a ton of water. Regardless of the amount of beans you put. Sometimes I put 2 cups of dry and fill the Instapot to the half line. Generally for Red Kidney Beans from dry it takes 55 minutes on manual high pressure to get to canned beans quality. I only use the preset bean/chili option when I have pre-soaked beans. For soaked I do the same, water wise, but use whatever is the recommended time in the manual sheet the pot comes with. NEVER LEAVE THE “KEEP WARM” ON FOR BEANS. And ALWAYS natural release.

For the beans - I’ve made pinto and black beans in the instant pot, both the same way: 2 cups beans, 4 cups water and then all my seasonings, give it a mix and put them in for 25 mins... they cook perfectly. If you don’t like the excess water you can just drain it, I leave it in the container so the beans don’t try out in the fridge. I’ve also used my hand blender and made the pinto beans into refried beans, I just drain the bean water and keep that bean water and add it back as I blend

I don't like regular brown rice, but brown bismati rice has a different, more nutty flavor and I really like that one

I found if I cook my beans on the Manual setting instead of the Bean settings they come out much softer.

You need to try Yellowbird hot sauces. You can get at Whole Foods or on Amazon. Jalapeño condiment is the best flavor. Other ones are super spicy! Instant Pot beans: I highly recommend soaking your beans the night before. For soaked overnight pinto beans, cook 30 mins & they will be perfectly cooked and some split apart. If you quick soak the pinto beans with boiling water for at least an hour or two, try 35-40 mins. For soaked overnight black beans, 15 mins minimum for perfectly cooked. For quick soaked black beans you can try 20-25 mins.

Hey Kiki, again, I LOVE your channel! Have you ever eaten a cooked, but cold, sweet potato? It tastes like pumpkin pie! I batch cooked like you do, and when I went to prepare them the next day, and I tried one cold just to see. It was awesome! I put some cinnamon on it which made it even better!

Like Dr. McDougall (and Mary Poppins), a little sugar here and there (i.e. ketchup, BBQ sauce, etc.) is okay if it helps the "medicine" go down. I'm so glad you spotlighted the fat free dressings from Maple Grove Farms of Vermont! Their dressings helped me out tremendously, because so many "healthier" dressings are still mostly fats and oils. (Just read the labels and do the math: 10 grams of fat x 9 calories per gram = 90 calories of fat in a 100 calorie serving. That's still 90% fat!!!) The first Maple Grove dressing I ever sampled (by itself) was their Wasabi Dijon. It was delicious on my quick-lunch-in-the-grocery-store-parking-lot salad, but boy was it spicy, especially the aftertaste! You might love it. But now I dilute it with another, milder dressing or some apple cider (or balsamic) vinegar. Nevertheless, I've liked just about every FF dressing of theirs I've tried: Poppy Seed, Honey Dijon, Balsamic, Cranberry Balsamic... I think the Honey Dijon is my favorite. Haven't seen the Lime Basil one you held up. Lately, I don't even use a bottled dressing on my salad, just a tasty vinegar, some flavorful mustard, some hummus, salsa and/or a little BBQ sauce depending on what's in the salad mix. Indeed, taste buds change. Thanks for the encouragement! It's not all about the number on the scale. It's about total health.

Instant pot beans - obviously depends on the beans. Black beans or pinto beans I do for about an hour so they are super soft. I do find I prefer them made with a manual pressure cooker but that's way more effort. Chickpeas I do for 80mins. Hope you get to enjoy instant pot beans. 💚💚

I love your videos so far. I have a question since you have kids. I have. 3 boys and they tend to stay on the thin side. Do you add or do anything different than what you showed for your kids or do they eat the meals you showed as well? Thanks!

Good for you with those blenders! My Magic Bullet died in a few months, as did the two other Nutribullets I had before that. My Blendtec I loved but it died in two years time as well. I was really upset about that because I paid over $200 for it and it was supposed to last for years and years they said. Now, I have a $30 Oster blender that blends just as well and been going strong since last spring.

I still use my pressure cooker for beans and potatoes ... so easy. So I need no crock-pot or slow cooker. But what I could not live without is since I own it is the airfryer .

Thank you for another great video. I was doing great following the Starch solution but being a peri-menopausal woman I’m experiencing some weight gain now...it’s like 2lbs but for me, after having struggled with my weight my whole life, it’s pretty discouraging :( will keep eating the same way and hope for the best..

So happy I found a wfpb RU-vidr who doesn’t do smoothies and jogging! (And adores hot sauce 😆) I was wondering what symptoms I can expect during my transition to ‘The Starch Solution’ - and for how long? I’m six days in now and feeling a bit lightheaded and grotty. Thanks, Kiki 🥰
