That intro speech is so beautiful, so inspirational, so moving.. I feel like I can take on any Starcraft 2 opponent now. Time to make Winter proud, or end up on the next BLH.
FR tho I booted up SC2 for the first time in 2 years after watching the last episode...and then got bodied three games in a row...Oh well, at least his series will be fun!
I have recently found you. You’ve become one of my favorite RU-vidrs to watch! I have found myself more into your content than any other. I thank you for your knowledge and your teaching!
Winter is just awesome. The bronze league heroes series is what inspired me to start playing multiplayer. I’ve won only one game so far, but that victory was sweet!!!
33:44 UNTRUE! Stalkers are good with colossus because they are like a mini colossus. This improves the moral of the colossus since they have a cute version of themselves to protect.
Hey Winter, I just wanted to let you know that you motivated me to actually play some starcraft 2 again. I've been playing since WoL release and started at the very bottom of bronze, but gradually improved with each expansion with a peek of d2. Your dedication, passion, humor and "teaching skills" (
Just wanna say I love nothing more than these massive hour long videos to put on as I lay in bed and try to sleep. I may never play but damn I love watching
39:13 YOOO Outstanding move, can't wait to try it. This video is full of fanastic tips. As a brand new Starcraft (and Protoss) player, it's so nice to learn a decent low APM build from a pro. Thanks Winter ❤
Thanks Winter. After loosing a lot of games to endless variety of cheeses, I won 10 games in a row. Thanks to your teachings. Then I lost 3 games to people who actually know how to play a real game. Looking forward to the next part.
2:04:15 actually when holding shift you can rapid fire any unit warp in. Press S to select the stalker then hold shift and hold the rapid fire key and wiggle the mouse, that will barf out a ton of stalkers, This works with all abilities that can be shift spammed.
Hey man huge fan here. I've watched most of your low apm videos and I absolutely love them 💯 you are awesome and you inspired me to actually play ranked. I was afraid of getting owned but thanks to you I've come to enjoy the game. Keep being awesome
Finally went ahead and did the placement matches. Got into silver. APM has went from 30 to 50 which surprised me so it feels good to have some progress
Lmao my APM is like 70-110 some games, I've just started so my fundamentals are awful, one of the reasons I clicked on this video is that I know you don't need a high APM to win so I want to see the most efficient way of playing APM wise it means I can use my APM properly instead of just wasting time. First time back into the game after like 3 or 4 years and I played for like 2 weeks then and very rarely
This series has helped me quite a bit in the past, now it keeps me fresh and is one of my favorite things to watch when building and painting Warhammer models! Keep up the good work! Your one of a kind honestly
Love the series, especially that your doing each race individually now. have been wanting to get into toss for a long time and this gets me off to a great start. Also your "Ad's" are the best...i never skip them
I've been watching you for quite some time, and coming back to this series made me really get into playing starcraft 2 again. Thanks for such a good in-depth guide, and keep up the excellent work!
I’m glad to see sincere Winter back, you seemed to slide to cynical Winter in terms of SC2 of late and I’m happy for the reversion. For the record sincere and cynical Winter both bring the snark, and that’s a good thing. Thank you for this!
the tipp around not freaking out when your probe number is red is actually golden. especially as a beginner. Trying to perfectly distribute your probes all game, might even distract you from more important things and if you have a lot of probes and bases, sending around probes to new bases all the time might even end up with less minerals than having 2 extra drones in the reds. its also quite eye opening if you think about it: when you see people they go like: oh all my bases are fully saturated, i dont need to build more workers now, but in the end there is no real drawback to having more workers on the same line...you still get more minerals with 20/16 than you ll get with 16/16
Taking control of your own replays is such a useful tool! I had no idea this existed and will save hours in practicing build orders and strategies. Thank you Winter!
Thank you for these videos the pylon and other building placement most of the games I have played was in Wings lol so this helps a lot to remind me the game has changed.
OMG, thank you for going over those hotkeys in the beginning. Every time I watch a replay I complained that tooltips don't work. I didn't realize there was an option to turn them on
My brain just shut off when i tried watching any starcraft clips or matches but i came across one of your shorts where you were popping off about a crazy zerg rush and thought "this looks hype" and now im falling down the rabbit hole havent stopped playing for a week with your videos playing on the side the whole time lol
“Patrol workers in order to keep them out off the Idle Worker Key” Wow I had no idea but of course it makes sense. Finally I understand why so many pros put their hatchery-blocking probes in small patrolling paths. Thanks winter
Hey boss man! Just got back into SC2 and I have watched all your low apm challenges for every race. Been loving your videos… and I had a question on when will you be doing another apm challenge for Protoss.. man I love Protoss :)
after taking a break from playing sc2 and playing league for 2 years, im glad i can watch this cideo, hit gold, and then get cheesed and not play ever again cus ZeRg Op thank you winter for all that you do
Here is the thing Winter. I love SC2, but I dont love sucking at things, and getting good at things takes effort. You know what doesn't take effort? Watching you teach me how to get good at SC2. So I think you know what I gotta choose. Edit: your negging got me to play my first ranked matches in years, so I guess you win.
Got my first actual win in silver 3, after dropping from whatever absurd mmr I started with, by trying to emulate this. I forgot half the stuff but I did have 80 probes at the end of it. It took 7 games to win.
You don't have to do weird editing to set rapid fire for each unit separately. You can have the Global-UI Management-Choose Ability or AI option on a general key, let's say R. And then use it by clicking on the unit's key, and then shift-R to rapid fire it.It's an extra key press, but you don't have to do the extra weird stuff
ive really only played protoss, ive dabbled with sc2 for years, just never all in. started again recently, this time really wanting to get into it. cant seem to get above about 40apm lol and winter does that with just his thumbs
I am pretty sure that toss low APM requirement comes from cannon rushing half the time and not having to do any macro. "How to surprise your opponents?" -- "Building probes, building pylons". I would say "Building pylons IN OWN BASE".
I alway enjoy this series and your commentary although the stream snipers are annoying i would and i think others would be ok if you didnt use the apm cap imo. I get you mention not being as slow with the expidited strategy but still great content.
@WinterStarcraft at 2:04:00 you're talking about shift-clicking your stalkers because you don't have rapid fire for anything but zealots, but at another point (perhaps this video, perhaps a different one) you said you have rapid fire for anything that you hover your mouse over. Does this not mean that you can rapid-fire warp-in any gateway unit, provided you press the hotkey for the unit, then hold shift and press the rapid fire key? I ask because I rapid fire all my gateway units in this fashion.
I mean yes you can manually go in and edit the text file for your hotkeys and add more rapid-fire keys (for those curious, it's usually documents -> Starcraft 2 -> hotkeys OR documents -> Starcraft 2 -> accounts -> #### -> hotkeys). I just transitioned to grid hotkeys and have literally my whole grid set to rapid-fire, which is probably overkill, but whatever lol
I really hope for a future update of this in 2023, because in the new patch it does not work. I have tried everything I could from this build order, and it just never works. It just genuinely doesn't work. It loses to mass battlecruisers, what everyone calls the zerg "dumbass build", and other protoss just DT rush you.
When Winter sends in a few zealots to the enemy outpost around @1:29:00 , as he's talking about nor using the select army key so much, how exactly is he attacking with them? I don't see actions, so am I right to presume that he just A-moved and let them do their thing? I didn't see a control group for them, but they were still really effective, which gives me hope for when I attempt to split up my armies for the first time ever soon.
Question: i heard you explain that armor upgrade is better than shields. I still feel the need to press the shield upgrade even if I pick the armor one because you told me to pick it. I feel like since shields come back, the upgrade should be usefull more than once. -Could you please re explain why we pick armor over shields? What about when you build lots of archons along with some immortals and zealots.
Kinda late, but vs terran there is no point in shield upgrades due to ghost EMP, and even ignoring ghosts, the bread and butter of your army, zealots, have 100 hp/50 shield, and 1 base armor. So it is better to go for armor rather than shields. Against zerg, you mostly dont even upgrade armor, so it is a moot point
Question here: i've been trying your archons, immortals and chargelots reliable build from your previous low apm challange and i can't get out of silver. Either i get all in'ed too early or get counter maybe half of the games. How can i improve from there?
Gotta scout first, and see what they’re going for. Against Zerg, make sure you wall off your natural. Protoss, wall the main. Terran, don’t wall at all. Get your wall big enough for a single unit and build an adept, which will counter any lings, zealots or marines that try to sneak through. Throw down some shield batteries behind that wall, and build some more units, like a stalker and a sentry(for the force field should the adept fall). If you see a super worrisome build(like a 3 rax, 4 gate or 12 pool)immediately wall off your main ramp, and crank out units with shield batteries as soon as possible. If this happens forego your tech for more gateways to start. If it doesn’t happen, make sure you get your tech up quickly. Protoss Tech is the strongest in the game and your goal is to do everything you have to do to allow you to get to your tech options, and it’s VERY IMPORTANT you build the RIGHT tech units for what your opponent is doing. Protoss don’t have the luxury that Terran and Zerg do of switching tech as quickly to adapt, you NEED an observer as soon as your robo is done to see what they’re doing. Make sure you’re building the right units - if you see lings coming, sentries and adepts. Marines, adepts and some stalkers with a sentry. Zealots, adepts and a sentry. Holding off cheese and early rushes really comes with game practice. I suggest booting up one of your replays and taking control of it and redoing the event you lost at until you’ve nailed it down and held the push. Immortal chargelots archon is great but it’s a bad face roller if your opponent knows what they’re doing - you gotta draw their attention and reinforce your army with a warp prism to keep the fight going. If you’re not doing that, your army will have a rough time.
