I always liked how instead of taking the place of one of the game's characters, you actually had your own character in Starcraft. "Cerebrate", "commander", "executor", the characters in the game would actually address YOU. Kerrigan thanks you for keeping her safe, Raynor asks you to come with him when he leaves Mengsk, etc. Super cool.
Regarding the cutscenes, I'd argue that it isn't so much graphics as good cinematography that keeps them enjoyable to this day. The whole scene had a real hopeless, alien (the movie) like feel, from the numerous shadows, the rotating fans, the industrial background noise. All of SC1 has a dark atmosphere that reminds me of alien and fallout. Or perhaps more pertinently, the scifi grimdark warhammer 40k vibe, as I believe that's what sc started off as.
Anatole Momméja mmm, I do prefer the former, but I can't fault blizzard for pursuing what has been a winning formula. Warcraft, Starcraft, WoW, Overwatch and Hearthstone all share a sort of Pixar-like, feelgood, easy to digest artsyle, tone and fantasy, and I think it's actually what has helped them become so popular. Blizz games are sort of the defacto casual/disney company of games, and it seems to work.
It makes me wonder if the Blizzard dev team even bothered to play the SC1 campaign. I imagine that they reformed the SC2 team with mostly WoW developers, which explains the change in story and tone to resemble a WoW expansion. I'd also like to know whose idea it was to make Starcraft into a PG13 love story.
Alien and Aliens is exactly what I was thinking. That end scene seemed like it was right out of Aliens. It's really great to see art propagate and influence different mediums.
dirkloechel.deviantart.com/art/Size-Comparison-Science-Fiction-Spaceships-398790051 Here there's the spaceship size comparison, there are a lot of spaceschip from many videogame/movie universes, there's also starcraft near the independence day spaceship.
Lowko never go into a fight then back off static defense just gets to hit you a bunch more. Also if you just killed the missile turrets the marines would no longer have detection and Kerrigan could've cleaned them up solo.
+Jesus Villarreal You'd almost think he'd never played a game of Starcraft (2) in his life. Cloaked Units and Detectors. It's really basic shit. And I'm sorry, but you can't blame the UI for that. I figured that shit out the first time I played it when it originally came out. I'd never touched another RTS in my life before Starcraft. I was like 12!!!
I must warn you, the protoss dungeon crawl mission is one of the hardest (or most strenuous) missions in this damn game. When you hear the "I live for the swarm!", you will know fear.
Ah yeah. Battle on the Amerigo. One of the most frightening experiences for me when I was little and I was watching my dad playing Starcraft. Holy cow.
Half the comments so far: "OMG how did you miss that?!" "OMG look at the mini-map!" "Use the abilities!" That's Lowko in a nutshell. Watching him play is so painful... Why can't I stop, though? Why do I keep coming back? WHY?!?!
I'm uploading them as fast as I can. Keep in mind that I don't just play, but editing, rendering, thumbnails and everything else take up a lot of time too. Aiming for a new episode every 2nd or 3rd day right now. It's a solid pace!
I remember i used a lot the ability to burrow and wait for a while for the hit points to regen. My favourite tactic was to burrow the hydras and lings, lure the marines to them with kerrigan then unburrow. I usued this tactic a lot with siege tanks in other missions (unburrowing lings at the point were the tanks will siege up)
I explain you the Hotkey-problem. Every ability has his own hotkey, if you change it, it changed for every unit, that's no problem for normal units. But Kerrigan has abilities from multiple units, and if you have a template it could be, that the abilities of her has the same hotkey. No big deal for the campaign.
When you are fighting with enemy try staying on high ground, if possible. ranged attacks against enemies on high ground has 50% to miss (this mechanic isn't existant in SC2) so use this to your advantage, and don't let enemy use it against you! (like this so he can see it)
Best cut scene in the game. Really dig this old school play through. When Kerrigan talks about the old ghost programs she's referring to those of the Confederacy, the installation map being the inside of the science vessel. She unlocks storm after removing the old confederate dampers. This is the point in the campaign where you start hitting the Protoss... And don't stop. Would love to see a Hydralisk Guardian combo in the next mission.
Yup. I was screaming at my screen, "The turrets are detectors! The turrets are detectors! Hold the door! Hold the door! Holdodor! Holdodor! Hodor! Hodor!"
Lowko, you've gotta use your dungeon crawling part of the brain meats, not the one allocated for normal starcraft play, that one doesn't work. You _have_ to actually look around and not miss obvious beacons because you can't be bothered to look at the minimap and see a big ol' white marker near the imprisoned zerglings. Also you have to conserve units and not let them die just like that, they're _not_ expendable, just throw that thought out, they can't be replaced and their deaths will cost you. Also, this is what a Science Vessel looks like in its actual scale. Yes, those things that are shown like they're barely bigger than a Devourer.
I've waiting for this episode so many time because I stuck in the mission 6 of the Zerg campaign and I will use this video for orientation, thank you very much for this delicious one
Tácito Conte listen up very immportant it will blow your mind. The zerlings are supposed to get criticality damaged and be devoured before they die the map was designed with that in mind.
Lowko. One thing you missed about this red hydralisk is the fact that it has 2 armor by default so 2+3 which makes marine attack do barely any damage. Later on there is special ultralisk too that is basically immune to marine fire.
He never bothered to look at the stats of the units... Kerri does 50 base and the turrets have 50 hp... Oh well, at least we can laugh at him getting rekt by the 500 dmg infested terrans during the protoss campaing.
Lowko, whenever you encounter something you can not comprehend, like "how can I open this door ?" or "where I should go ?" Please be sure to take a look on mini-map. Anything that not yours (aka. NPC colors) might be the key, especially those beacons which needed to activate many stuff in dungeon crawling style map.
Lowko you are amazing keep it up andddd pls check the StarCraft mass recall when you finished the remastered version. Trust me maps and story and everything are the same but its like you are playing a whole new version of starcraft, plsssss but if you didn't you are still amazing and I love seeing your contents everyday
I have a question. The cerebrate you play as in Sc1 and broodwar never dies ingame. So why isnt the cerebrate you play as in Sc2? What happened to the cerebrate serving Kerrigan?
najiru1984 no....... in broodwar, the cerebrate is still alive. Even with the Overmind killed in Sc1. The Overmind in broodwar doesnt count as it is created by a fusion of mutiple cerebrates.
That was a bit painful to watch, how you just ran past all the marines, without targeting the turrets. They were the ones with detection, after all, resulting in dead Kerrigan. :P But do keep them coming. :D
i always remembered that cutscene as that marine's head just spontaneously bursting out of nowhere, and i was trying to theorize what happened to the soda to make that head explode, my guess was zerg infestation
Lowko, i know this comment is too late, but still zerg units can BURROW AND HEAL. Plus everything thay sead about detektors. Still fun to watch, nostalgia hits hard :-D
We know the Zerg are fiction, but damn that cutscene made them feel so much more eerie compared to SC2. Even before Blizz added the new images to replace the black screen with text, the atmosphere had you imagining what it could have been instead of showing you everything, that's what made the game imo.
Could we just stop for a minute to realize how Overmind is the best character in SC1? I mean, hes pretty chill and relaxed for a Zerg god and actually treats his subjects better than the other 2 races
I love how science vessels are detectors themselves, but you can be cloaked inside them haha.. btw I agree with almost ever comment here, lowko please! try to pay more attention to the game, maybe this game doesn't have a brutal difficulty mode, instead (like many old games), you have to figure out what to do and look around to discover useful information.
Hunter Killers are actually 4x more powerful than Hydras. Twice, because they do double damage and another twice, because they have double health. Oh, and don't forget extra armor.
I mean at 10 stuff like pushing the command center closer to get better mining etc. Hes operated on knowledge from outside the game you wouldnt have. Whats stunning here is how he totally fails to pay attention the feedback the actual game is giving him. Its freakin stunning really.
well hes like what, 23, 24 years old? that means he was like 14 when sc2 came out, and only a we lad of maybe 4 years old when sc1 came out. he just wasnt old enough to have played it before. makes sense to me what would land in front of him first.
Age was quite valid here....Lowko said himself he didn't play it because his mom wouldn't let him buy it when it came out....he also got into other games when he got older so that prolly didn't help...
Those cutscenes were from a time when Blizzard were more interested in making good games, rather than squeezing as much many out of DLC and lootcrates as they can.
It would appear your one of those players that doesn't watch the minimap pings as you play, otherwise you would of had another 6 or more zerglings depending on how fast you took out the guards, cant wait to see how you handle the protoss missions tho, most likely with your normal over confidant and aggressive style, don't get me wrong it works for your most of the time but this game if you haven't played it before or in a while to remember all the traps will give you a good kick in the pants
The Zerglings you get for missions like these are not to be used in combat. They are for Consume. Kerrigan here has that ability Consume right? What Consume does is: it regenerates 50 Energy (regardless of what unit you consume and what HP it has) but kills the unit you Consume. The Zerglings are there so you can use Kerrigans special abilities much more often (for example keep her cloaked for a loooooong time or to use Ensnare, which not only reduces movement speed but also attack speed).
Yeah, it's especially handy in later missions when Kerrigan gets Psionic Storm. But Ensnare is quite overpowered as well, if you use it on stimmed rines/bats it completely negates the stim buff, that's why I love spamming it and I don't mind sacrificing lings to keep the energy up :D
well thats the cool thing about sc1 and why its better than sc2, you can actually use completely different play styles and they are still valid and work just fine. sc2 on the other hand you basically have to do the same exact thing every single time just faster than the other guy if you want to win.
to be fair, in sc2 that hes spent the last 7 years with, most abilities auto cast, and enemies are only ever in one huge blob so theres no need to ever use the mini-map. its not his fault he sucks here, its sc2's lol
