I absolutely use 6 of those Vanguard Obliterators as my main end game weapon. I also use the best Alpha Turret rear facing to kill ships aft and I add the EMP weapons facing front so I can board ships if I want. I use those weapons on every end game ship I create.
Personally I'd take the projectors like you recommend but still sink some credits into decent missile launchers for long range before you get into dog fight range, solid build though! The engines stack average power so good call dropping the two more demanding ones. I'd also recommend anyone running these builds to learn how to use their thrusters as well and not rely on the main engines and turning
