To each his own but I'm not a fan of keeping resources used in crafting in storage containers that are not connected to work shops by default. Really though, this games inventory management and the QoL they gave us just sucks balls. Every time I create a cargo link I think about the outpost linking system in Fallout 4 and wonder why they decided to take 5 steps back from that.
After just starting the game 2 weeks ago watching countless mega storage builds and outpost builds like yours trying to figure out a good solution without complex 100s of storage crates linking this that and the other. I now have over 20kg weight in resources. I found on xbox at least since we don't have mods. Is to simply build a base just outside the Lodge in New Atlantis and use the Lodge's small infinite storage box on the table in the basement next to the research station to store everything. When you need to construct weapon mods or this or research simply fast travel directly to the lodge and do your builds there. Then when you need to build outposts , grab all the stuff from the box and exit the lodge , jet pack to lodge roof, then jet pack to the high tree then jet pack across the lake to the outpost. I timed myself , it took me less than 60 seconds to do this. ALL you need at this outpost is the large ship platform to call your ship so you can travel elsewhere in the galaxy to build. You can build a base right at the lake's edge behind the Lodge about 270 m away. It takes less than 1 minute to jet pack across the lake from the lodge. You can ignore the over encumbered warning and spam sprint and jet pack across the lake. You cannot die from sprinting while being over encumbered so ignore the warning. If you exit the lodge and look behind the lodge and to the left , you can put a beacon right at the waters edge about 270-280 meters. You'll see the other side of the lake where the land meets the water's edge to the left behind the lodge. No complex outpost storage builds necessary. When I load up on resources and become over encumbered, I simply sit in the cockpit in any orbit and you can fast travel right to the lodge's front door. YOU NEVER again have to crab walk to your ship. Simply exit the lodge , jet-pack across the lake and there you go. There is a video on my GT TOMATOEAGLE showing this outpost
You'll probably run into some issues when you want to manufacture things or use the boxed materials in any workbench really. Things in boxes are hidden from crafting. What you need for the mats to be available is the industrial storages (solid, liquid, gas) - you can have huge stacks of each type all linked up in a chain, and something like a cargo link or a ship drop-off thing linked to each chain's starting storage, it'll filter by type automatically. When you want to pick things up, you can just pull from each of the storages at the end of the chains, no need to go looking for which box it's in.
You should be proud of yourself, it's a good concept of storage management. I enjoy how you have your base of operations set up. I usually just throw everything I have in one of the containers in the basement at the lodge. It's too bad we cannot craft a storage container with unlimited storage capacity? I'm sure there must be a mod for it.. I'm on Xbox, and waiting patiently. Looking forward to your ship build video 👍 cheers
