I always wondered the acting required to fake emotional reactions to a green screen. Thought maybe for scenes like that sets could render the scenery first then have it play on a large screen before the actors so they were actually reacting to something.

@@MikMoen The SG1 actors have talked about this. They're all annoyed with themselves in Thor's Chariot because they all seem quite nonchalant as Thor's absolutely huge ship descends out of the clouds in what is an actually pretty good bit of CG, especially for its time. Meanwhile, they all find it hilarious how their acting in response to Daryl the Dragon in The Quest is clearly for a much better bit of CGI than what was delivered. Because the CG of the dragon is so bad, none of them can take the sequence and laugh (and wince) when they rewatch it as they see themselves acting so seriously.

yeah, from what i've read the writers (for at least the first 3 seasons) tried to top the last season finale, s2 finale, while cool, kinda missed the mark but s3 was almost as incredible, although i much preferred first strike than adrift and lifeline. s4 was my least favorite finale by far, although i don't blame the writers for trying to tone it down and make it more personal, can't just keep upping the stakes forever.

It's the ego. He makes it seems as a very difficult task so that when it's done faster he looks like a genius. We all can agree that he does not need to do that because he is in fact a genius - don't tell him I said so. Very well written character and also very well played.

It's ridiculous. If the stealth tech was so easy to retrofit to the city ship, why doesn't it already have the feature? It should be really difficult to do, and therefore a very risky plan.

@@alexmckee4683 It probably already has been part of Atlantis. They may not be aware of it. Largely 95 percent of Atlantis has still been unexplored.

I would bet the process of creating ZPM is dangerous. And we know that sabotaged ZPMs can explode with enough force to destroy about everything in the solar system. You don't want that stuff in your city. And then they would also need the raw materials and power to run it. A steel plant without Iron, carbon and energy is just a derelict factory And for all we know, ZPM Factories need stuff like Neutronium Fibres and power comparable to the chair to run it.

They would’ve had to know exactly what to look for in the database and I don’t think the Ancients were calling them ZPM’s it would’ve been like looking for a needle in a haystack, the asguard said they had downloaded the repository of the ancients and had been studying it for thousands of years and had barely scratched the surface, the humans could barley figure out how the deep space sensors worked lmao

It's the Star Trek conundrum, if the made more ZPM's everything would work, and they could turn the tables on any enemy, same with the drones ancient ships and Atlantis fire, they found some in another Atlantis type ship, they did have an issue with running short of drones, yet the city must have been able to produce drones and ZPM's. Star Trek in all it's version had the same issues, they found some enemy which could overpower them, in some cases they had to run away, only to confront them later and overcome with some ingenious plan or method, never gaining the weapons or power to use for their own advantage. Same with SGU, never enough power, always something broken, no auto-repair, enemy weapons just a little overpowered, no matter what series they were always the underdog.

@@Taz6688 perhaps the production sites for there weapons, ZPMs etc were on other planets the wraith destroyed. With no further resources coming in to reinforce the cities defenses they slowly ran out of drones and power and decided they had to leave. It is just a city afterall, not a industrial complex.

I once had a theory, supported by nothing I know of, that the Ancients never actually abandoned the Destiny's solar scoop technology and ZPMs were intended to be recharged from that. It's just that Atlantis has no facilities to do it because shields or not, it's too fragile to survive the tidal forces of diving into a star at all, let alone stay there for the full duration required to fully charge even one ZPM, never mind three. In fact, the sheer energy density of a ZPM probably means they needed specialized harvester ships with extra reinforcement to dive much deeper into a star than Destiny does in order to get enough power input to finish charging in a timely manner.

That annoyed me as well. But seeing as the city detects and responds automatically to anyone with the ATA gene it would be kind of hard to turn them off *and keep them off.* I guess the Ancients weren't really concerned with saving energy.

to be fair the power draw from all the lighting probably doesn't even enter in as a rounding error compared to the amount of energy the atlantis shield draws. besides, the naquada generators they brought were probably more than enough to power all the non crazy stuff anyway.

They address this in season 3 where they are going through the city turning off everything the Ancients turned on.

@@Ragitsu must’ve been because it seems like every ZPM SG-1 or Atlantis found was severely depleted and could only last like a week max under constant strain vs the 10k years the 3 on Atlantis lasted lmao

@@cmj0929 If the ZPMs require exotic materials in their construction, then it is possible that the Lanteans eventually exhausted their stockpiles right before they departed for the Milky Way galaxy.

Most likely, remember that this ZPM was the one that Ra found and didn't know what to do with, most likely found on a former ancient world.

He was referring to how long it would take to interact the cloaking systems of a jumper with the city shield. He said a week because he thought it might take too long, or leaving the option open if they could possibly find a way to extend their power reserves

that just makes me wonder, what powers the puddle jumpers? i assume they have some kind of miniature ZPM inside them that powers the craft is my guess. so they in theory could probably use them to boost power if they wanted to.

ZPM detonations are more powerful than several thermonuclear detonations. Especially when amplified by the Naquadah that composed the Stargate, it's rather conceivable that the city would be vaporized.

that would have pissed me off so much, i was very protective of my DVD's, i still am but i almost never use them anymore, but i always want to keep them in prestine condition, but they look like crap as they are the 480p versions of the shows lol. this i suspect was at least 1080p or perhaps the blue ray edition they released, they released the 1080p a little while after, but it was more recent.

Those ZPMs were heavily drained by the fight with the super hive AND the trip across galaxies

Maybe they diverted the power from propulsion to weapons, hive ships are massive so it’s not hard to imagine how much power they need to move it

The energy requirements for that experimental city wormhole drive would have been no greater than an Ori Super Stargate to their home galaxy which the Odyssey ship was capable of powering with it's lone zpm.

Sheppard could only put enough power into the thrusters by diverting it from the shields/weapons which they needed to actually win the fight. I think the super hive was also effectively "pushing" them into the planet with the impact force from it's attacks as well, and given Atlantis isn't a battleship the ancients likely never intended for it to go up in a 1v1 against another ship in it's size class, so needing to be able to put enough power into engines to overcome gravity and the force from a ZPM's worth of incoming fire while also fully powering shields and weapons was probably not on the list of things the ship was ever designed to do.

The Daedalus would have probably just created a hyperspace window in the atmosphere. That has been done multiple times before.

There are a few hints in the stargate show regarding ZPMs manufacture. On SG-1 episede 09X20 the Asgards were talking about the anti Ori weapon and commented that it was very similar to a ZPM. In episode 10x11 we see an Lantean (Merlin) using a holographic display to build the weapon virtually (down to atomic level) and using transport tech to manufacture it (converting energy into matter). So a ZPM could be created in a similar way.

Not only that but they dont even know what the ancients called zpms so they'd really have to scour the whole database

and it's total nonsense because a few ZPM's gave them clonning capability. Not needed when the power of just 10 Hives over a few days can deplete a ZPM, it wouldn't work even if the weapon power/depletion ratio would be 10:1.

they needed his out of phase tech, that would have saved them the blowing themselves up and would have allowed them to save on power. the out of phase tech was superior to the cloaking tech as it literally took the objects you were putting our of phase within an alternate dimension that was based on the same world. so they could fire at that spot and they would hit nothing, imagine your shields had some kind of out of phase tech enabled that would activate when your shields were getting low on power, that would turn the tables. then imagine creating a warhead that could go out of phase and then come back only to blow up, virtually undetectable to any vessel. now imagine the same thing, but instead of a warhead a vessel that had FTL capability and the phase tech enabled on it, but was a drone that was meant to pass through a shield of a ship only to enter FTL dragging the enemy ship into the uncontrolled wormhole tearing it to pieces as the ship was not ready to jump. that would be the most effective weapon or none weapon we would have at our arsenal.

You've got it exactly backwards.

The wraith know the Atlanteans shields are impenetrable until they run out of energy. So firing smaller, less powered but more shots to drain the shield is more efficient than firing at it with full power volleys that take a while to recharge and not overheat.

I agree, but we later discover that the Wraith stole ZPMs in their war with the ancients, which would have allowed them to do this more easily back then. So maybe in this instance it was in reality a bluff to try and convince the new occupants of Atlantis to lower the shield, by appearing more powerful than they actually are and relying on the knowledge the ancients lost 🤔

well they didn't, that was the projection of McKay when they asked how long the shields would last. i agree with you that the wraith ships would run out of power and over heat, however, they can always just swap out for more ships with more power as they fire endlessly. like say the example the first few ships fire for a few hours as their power depletes and they call in for reinforcements to shoot at them while they either replenish their power reserves and cool down their systems or more ships take on the attack as the ships deplete, that method could be done for days and days on end. but what i think is stupid is that they didn't attack from any other position, they could have sent some darts near and around the city and possibly under the water, now we don't know if these can fly under water, but who knows, we didn't know that the jumpers could until we tried. ah, but i feel the under water concept for Atlantis was under used in the show, i mean it was cool when they discovered that under water base, but after that they didn't really use it for anything or go back to explore it for longer than a minute.

They wouldn't have thought of it. They never met this kind of warfare before. There was no reason for them to believe this happened. There was no reason for them to even think of this idea. It is likeat the beginning of the 2nd world war. Japan had no reason to think that you they would need to avoid a nuclear attack.

They had only fought against the Ancients who just turtled under their shield or relied heavily on their advanced technology. The Ancients never thought or fought tactically thus the Wraith didn't either. The Tau'ri bought a whole new kind of warfare and thinking to the Pegasus galaxy. The Ancients overreliance on their technology was ultimately their downfall.

they probably could have if they knew how to do it, but this idea just didn't come to mind, but they also didn't have the time dealation field tech to work with to make that happen.

"Back in season 10" That's two or three years in the future for this attack. Season 2 of Atlantis happens at the same time as season 9 of SG1.

I am tired of the Walking Dead and other modern series. Thus i started to watch Stargate SG-1 again. I really miss the good Stargate days.

@@doords It's the zombie survival aspect and the characters have to act that way to create the story driven tension. The way it is done, is not always the best or most convincing one, but it does its job to drive the story in the direction they want to have. Overall it is a good show, but at some point you have enough of it. The most important aspect is to watch it from season 1. It doesn't work if you start watching it from the middle.
