Out of nowhere? They were literally building up to it for a few episodes. The only way you didn't see this coming is if you have no sense of logic.

@@Adanu191 You have to give them proper respect for it, though. The only good build-up is a payoff like that. I really miss this show.

@@Adanu191 well he means is that season 1 of SGA wasn't the best or most exciting. Not really big battles or something epic. Don't get me wrong the storm mid-season was cool but nobody expected SGC to show up with reinforcements like this

@@Adanu191 Indeed. I think what I love the most about the Siege is in season 2 when the Daedalus arrives. You hear its the sister ship of Prometheus and you expect another x303 but instead you get the absolute monster of a ship

The problem with the wraith wasn't that you couldn't defeat one ship. The problem was that they were so many of them that even if you took out millions, it wouldn't make a dent

Still doesn't make much sense, a Siege only works if your enemy as no way to run. They still had a fully functional stargate, the only one capable of intergalactic travel. The Wraith only had 3 ZPMs according to Tod, they would get depleted eventually, while lanteans had the capability to create more. Why not leave a defensive team on Atlantis, return to the gate, rebuild a fleet and return after the Wraith punch themselves against the city.

@@AnonimatosTM while it was the only gate that was intergalactic, the location of earth was in the database. since the lantean database was regenerative and even one small piece could allow for full database retrieval and they could not escape back to earth since all 3 zpms were depleted, they originally planned to deploy a virus and destroy Atlantis until earth sent reinforcements with a zpm they found [sg1 moebius] and sent en route on the dedaleus.. so they had to defend a city with no shields and no lantean technology. Defeating the wraith was nigh impossible for the lanteans due to the size of the wraith numbers. The siege was against 1 hive ship and they barely held their own and dedaleus destroyed 3 and long range sensors picked up another 12 iirc. [Spoilers] It was bad enough that the vanir [s5] thought it easier to use a device that destroyed active Stargates to stop the wraith from using hyperspace and the asurans, self replicating humanoid wardens, made by the lanteans though it easier and more efficient to kill all the humans rather than fight the wraith. And they had hundreds of lantean ships

Whaat? It was a good episode but it looks like they only did one take for everything, some of the scenes are just downright horrendous... It's not bad but definitely far from "one of the best", It was filmed in ~2006 or somewhere early 2000's and it's definitely showing its age...

Ehhh in terms of Space battles the earth ships were EXTREMELY under powered tbh lol rail guns and missiles don’t really do much when it comes to shields

I couldn't understand how the enemy were able to employ countermeasures to the transport,they had no shields.that was never explained and we never used the tactic again.

@@lonniedaniels125 They kept using it throughout the series. The earth-ships never tried beaming nukes over because of their jammin code. We see some instances, like Daedalus and the captured ancient ship vs. 2 hive ships, where Michael/dr. Mccay disabled the jamming code so they could beam gas cannisters over

@@Uberdude6666 +until Michael,who was half wraith himself.i could've been wrong but the the wraith weren't exactly up to date when it came to facing off against prey that could meet them face to face on a battlefield.even against the ancients they had to overwhelm them in numbers course maybe they could get up to speed faster than I realized.

@@lonniedaniels125 Maybe that's because of these offshoot faction of the Asgard, the Vanir/Lost Tribe, that we see in Season 5 of SGA. The Vanir had problems with the Wraith and were seriously outmatched (even one Traveler ship could beat four of theirs no problem), so presumably, the Vanir tried to use beaming tech against the Wraith, so the Wraith would have had to find a way to jam attempts to beam. When the Tau'ri first tried using it, they didn't expect it, so it was pretty effective, but the Wraith figured out what was going on after the third attempt, and put an end to that.

there is a book series that, i believe, actually fill some of those holes. and if i'm remembering correctly it even ends better then the show did

I really hate what they did with Lt. Ford. He was a likeable character before the whole hybrid shenanigans happened. Then he just became an insufferable prick.

I agree with you I wish they would’ve at least had up the loose ends and would happen to Ford like that maybe he took out a hardship with his last breath or that he escaped to continue a guerrilla warfare against the wraith etc.

@@Utubesuperstar not to mention if the jamming extends to an area around the ships, then there not getting in close.

Thats why you launch the missiles first, let them get upto speed, them beam them in as close as you can when they are already travelling fairly quickly. There is then a possibility that the wraiths point defence won't hit them before they hit the ship. Alternatively you can just play it really mean, strap a few to the outside of jumpers and cloak, have the jumper fly into the hive, drop the nuke, fly out, the detonate, rinse and repeat, ideally using as many jumpers as you can so that there is limited time for the hives to notice whats going on.

Nukes in space are like depth charges in the sea. Unless you get a direct hit, you'll barely scratch the paint.

@@ThePathStrider that's actually not really true. Depth charges vs submarines are fatal at a considerable distance, as it's the pressure wave that inflicts the damage by causing a rapid pressure shift which damages water tight seals which are generally poor at dealing with rapid preasure shifts.

They defended it for 100 years I'd call that successful the wraith had unlimited number because of the stolen zpms and cloning

Patrick Stivers they defended atlantis for 100 years I would call that successful but in the end wraith had unlimited numbers which forced the lanteans to leave for good cause they couldn't defend against the wraith and so in the end they left atlantis. Now why did they leave for good because the wraith had unlimited numbers because they stolen zpms and they cloned themselves to the point that they had unlimited numbers you also find out that the lanteans created the wraith then created the Asurans which are the replicators to fight their first mistake the wraith. They have also created other things which all leads to the lanteans aren't really the nice people we thought on a second note it is mentioned in the series that there are other advanced civilizations, civilizations as advanced as the lanteans but they are hiding and they will continue to hide till the day the wraith are no longer a threat then they will come out

Theri4444​ It is never indicated that the mystery civs are as advanced as the Lanteans.

In one of the episodes they went practically all in with the missiles against a single hive ship...one managed to hit it and while it did significant damage it wasn't enough to knock it out of action, had to do further damage + secondary explosions to do so...and the ship was still spaceworthy...

"get some" translates into wraith as "dinner time" so he was beamed into a dart for some post battle snacks.

that would be hilarious they walk in see racks full of them and just look at each other and flashbacks of the hundreds of times where zpms would have been really useful play and u see shepherd turn to mckay and say what the actual fuck rodney

The generator needs to be used, solar battery as in geo+solar+method for those zpms. The naquada planets, geothermal planets, and a direct solar powered ship charger in a sun for power creation of zpm

The Atlantis Shield requires an incredible amount of energy to maintain constant bombardment, but is also the most powerful shield known to tau'ri. The wraith are far from that advanced, and their weapons is barely able to scratch the surface of the shield. Therefore, they don't require nearly as much energy to use. To pose a threat to atlantis, all known wraith ships need to maintain constant bombardment, Besides, when one ship goes out of juice,they can just send in another

August Giæver They would have to out put as much energy as a zpm can produce in order to drain it. Simple physics. This also doesnt explain how those weapons dont overheat, how they never run out of energy or why the ancients considered wrath weapons to be extremely powerful and formidible. Given this basic knowledge of physics it makes me wonder how the wrath ever defeated the ancients considering they were able to produce zpms like we do AA batterys and of course that thw wrath weapons are energy weapons and would have to put out an equal amount of energy to deplete the shields and thereby the zpms.

eraldorh Strength in numbers. The wraith vastly outnumber the ancients, even their shield can't hold too long against constant bombardment from a thousand ships. They can hold long, sure, but not forever

Because pretty much all wraith tech is organic I'm sure they manage to get around overheating through some sort of biological process which you could also apply to how they produce power. Maybe through some weird wraith version of photosynthesis they convert one type of energy into another then fire it out of the ships as the energy weapons.....kinda how some animals fire venom or stingers. While they did have treated numbers by the time the ancients had fallen back to Atlantis they had no way to produce ships or extra weapons but they could produce zpm's so they had infinite shields....they only reason the war stopped was because they couldn't find a way out so they sank the city and wanked off to earth.

Also if you look at the little hologram Shepard shows the colonel in the teaching room thingy the amount of ships in orbit which were pretty much firing continuously would have put out roughly the amount of power a zpm uses or something close... it's just the ancients could make more faster than the wraith could deplete.

@Joeseph Smith welcome Cuz, I’m a retired civilian engineer for the Navy (NSWCDD). A RailGun round is beyond visual range to fast to see a reader. You are talking about a round traveling at TWO OR THREE THOUSAND MPH. Blink and it’s gone.

They were destroyed when Tollana fell and Carter admitted that the ion cannons were so advanced that backward engineering one of these things for mass production is well beyond us.

Manpads would have been the best friend here but they likely only were able to get those anti tank rockets so they worked with what they had but yes bringing in some ciws batteries would have made mincemeat of those darts and we get the brrrrt

That ZPM was found in the Milky Way, we don't know how much power it had when discovered, but it had then been used to beat off Anubis with a chair weapon, send the original expedition to Atlantis, send reinforcements to Atlantis, get the Daedalus to Atlantis in a fraction of the time it would have otherwise taken, and then soaked a kamikaze run by a whole lot of darts. It's probably safe to say that it was running on dregs before they first raised the shield.

Wait...that wasn't the same ZPM. SG-1 found another one on earth in the past. That's the one that was taken to Atlantis.

think about it the city was in top condition and underwater when the asurans were there but its a rust bucket, i hate to say it but Atlantis is a shadow of its former self

Also we don't know what the compounding effect of 3 is. It could be significantly more than 3 times the amount. It could be 3 squared x 3 squared etc. And who says they didn't know how to recharge or know how to balance energy usage better, or even stop the shields being hit etc. Numerous plot holes in your theory.
