A scene from Stargate SG-1 season 4 episode 12 "Tangent" where Daniel tries to talk his way to safety. To be noted that references to the Wizard of Oz do not all the time. Copyright by MGM. No infringement intended.
You’d think with Daniel’s wealth of Egyptian/Gould knowledge he would have picked an obscure Gould Leader to impersonate... but no. The Great and Powerful Oz...
If O'Neill were there, his response would have been, "hail Dorothy, the witch is dead🥴" then subsequently repeating what he just said, under his own breath..
Yes i know... Ok i need to explain the sarcasm and joke apparently. "Who is left.....Apopthis (dead)....Yu(unknown).....Hathor (dead) ..... so he panics and is like "Oz!....Ill be OZ!" And realises after he says it "Shit they didnt by it..... "Im Oz, Yes!" Oh thank the Azguard, Jaccobs back. "They didnt by it....i said i was the great and powerful Oz" Yeah ....im just gonna.....go over here.....i panicked.
The great and powerful Oz, KREE? Very funny. However, since the system lords were constantly protecting their territories from Goa'uld upstarts, that probably wasn't a good idea.
This was one of SG1's funniest scenes. There's something about claiming to be "The Great and Powerful Oz" that is a mockery of the typical Goa'uld posturing. I'd imagine Selmak found it rather amusing.
@@zippacna Would also perfectly add to Jacobs defeated look. He is annoyed by Daniels foolery while having a second voice at the back of his head laughing it's ass off.
"IDENTIFY YOURSELF, IN THE NAME OF HERU-UR!" "I am.... the... great.... and..... .... powerful.... oz (?)" "Powerful _OZ_ ??!!" "*THE GREAT* and Powerful Oz." "SIR, PULL OVER, WE'RE SENDING IN AN INSPECTION TEAM."
Meanwhile, internally... Selmak: "I do not understand, what is wrong?" Jacob: "Daniel just identified himself as a fictional wizard from an old human children's book." Selmak: "There is absolutely no way..." Jacob: "Well obviously! Now shut up or help me move this old tub out of their line of fire!"
Season 4 was SG1 firing on all cylinders, for sure. 2010, Window of Opportunity, the finale, replicators, Russian Stargate politics; what a great season :D
Wasn't that also the season with the episode where their clones destroy Kronos? I loved that episode. I guess this series really did take off season 3ff.
@@zippacna Props to the guy for sticking to his guns regardless when the Jaffa dares question who Oz is. Even if the ruse lasts for all of two seconds 🤣
Yeah, system lords would just taking stroll in failing cargo ship over enemy territory,.. had they do that, they would last less then month, not hundreds of years,...
Should have tried Nephthys. That would have gotten Heru'ur's forces to back down VERY quickly seeing as though in Egyptian mythology Nephthys cut off Horus's... er... bits.
1:06 to 1:54 (A Jaffa aboard one of the Ha'taks contacts Jacob's ship) Jaffa: "Kree tal shal mak, Heru'ur!! !" Jackson: "Mak tal shree, lok tak mekta satak Oz!!!" (the radio repeats him in a Goa'uld voice) Jaffa: "Mak tal Oz!? " Jackson: "Mak tal Oz kree!!!" (the radio repeats him in a Goa'uld voice) Jaffa: "Kal tak shree tal ma nak!! !" Jacob: "All right, we're almost finished, Sam's just finishing. " Jackson: "Uh, that's good, cuz I don't think they bought my act. " Jacob: "Why, who'd you say you were?" Jackson: "The, uh... Great and Powerful Oz. " Jacob: (eye roll, sigh) LOL
Anyone else think Daniel was thinking of this moment when he told Mitchell “Too far out of the box” when he wanted to break the supergate with bolt cutters?
Of all the OG SG-1 crew only Daniel could "channel" Jack's own brand of snark and insanity when in danger, he almost repeats the mentality when yelling at a woman when he says; "You're hostages, we're you're captors. There are rules there's a whole...school of etiquette to this. Don't eyebrow me." I'm almost surprised they never did anything like this with any of the other SGC personnel, but only Jack and Daniel seem to get the "Oz" references (to my knowledge)
Daniel: "The Great and Powerful Oz.." Jacob: *Inwardly* "Oh no, he didn't..." Selmak: *Laughs in Goa'uld* "You told him to use his imagination!" Jacob: "This isn't funny, Selmak!" Selmak: "Laugh or cry, Jacob, laugh or cry."
Love the echoing sound of the goauld Hatack's engines! It always reminds me of the epic scene in the original movie when Ra's pyramid ship lands onnthr Abydos pyramid.

They've had cloaking devices pretty much from day one. It's designed to deploy troops via ring transporter. That's why SG-1 always uses those over ships that are actually armed because the rings & cloak are a pretty hard to beat combo when you're not backed up by a mother ship. As for the outmaneuvering... Yeah no idea. Arguably because 1) Staff cannons have the fire rate of WW1 artillery and projectile speed of a long bow and 2) Because Jolinar's thousands of years old, but still.
@@unintentionallydramatic jolinal is a Goa'uld and ergo a far superior pilot when compared to Jaffa (thousands of years of experience + genetic Knowledge)
@@karlfranzemperorofmandefil5547 First of all: Hot damn, that's an oooold comment. Secondly: That's what I'm saying. Though I still don't entirely buy it; The show is usually fairly consistent with its ships. Guess it was a similar situation in the writing room as when they decided on the Disintegrate function of the Zats, i.e they had most of everything nailed down but realized that as it stood they would have to introduce a hotfix to the equation in order to get from A to B cleanly.
@@unintentionallydramatic Star trek is one of the shows with the worst ship consistently , just look at Ha'taks their 3d model literally has 3 different Sizes depending on what effect the ship should have on the viewer.
one of many scenes i love from SG-1, at first Daniel is clearly really put in the hot seat as he has to make something up on the fly, in Goa'uld and propper dialect no less, he struggles hard to make something up and seem to be both doubtfull over whatever it wil work and a bit of pride in himself for speaking so well, when questioned he asserts his possition and seem a bit offended they did not buy it, and pleased that he gets to use "kree" to assert himself against another Goa'uld, then Jacob comes back and finds the situation is less then ideal and finds out why, and all he can manage is a face and sigh of defeat and dissapointment in how Daniel of all people could fail that hard on improvising something, anything even remotely believable to buy them time. could have probably bought more time by feigning technical issues.
Tbh I wonder if there's anything he could've said that'd have given them free pass, apart from some Heru'ur forces' security code that he obviously didn't know. Maybe "I'm on a mission from System Lords to spy on the Tau'ri, that's why I'm flying in that direction"
Quite funny when you consider that Her'ur is a Goa'uld and The Great and powerful Oz was a To'krah Her'ur: Kree'tal shalmak her'ur - Listen i am Her'ur Daniel: Mek'tel shree lo'tek metah set'ek Oz - And i am the GREAT and POWERFUL Oz Her'ur: Mal'tal Oz? - Oz? [you sure voice] Daniel: Mak'tel Oz Kree - I am Oz God damnit Daniel: Hey i don't think they bought my act. Jacob [To'krah]: Why? who did you say you were? Daniel: The Great and Powerful Oz Jacob: Oh no you didn't
Ha'tak crew: "Al'kesh pilot, identify yourself! Do you serve Heru'ur?" Daniel: "Ah, negative, I serve no one! I am The Great and Powerful Oz!" Ha'tak crew: "The Great and Powerful Oz?" Daniel: "Did I stutter? I said I am the Great and Powerful Oz!"
I have captions on and here is what they read when the guy from the other ship starts talking to Daniel. 'Greathouse Salman Paramore' ' Rock tell stream looked at McDuck ours' 'Rock tell stream looked at McDuck ours healthily return better serve us ' 'back tell us cream' 'McTell Osprey' 'don't touch me come on' (then Jacob come running back in)
This would be like a video on a course for cadets called 'References to TV shows and books to use to your advantage in a hostile situation' that they would show at the SGC and then have an entire debate about whether it was a good thing to do in their situation or not.
Another video with this bit in it suggested that Jacob's sigh isn't of defeat, but rather him trying to ignore Selmak laughing their ass off, since symbiote and host share memories upon implant, so Selmak for sure got the reference.
I know every stargate episode ever on all 3 series SG1 SGA SGU and for some reason i cant remember what sg1 episode this is. Id say in 2nd 3rd or 4th season of sg1 obviously lol
