I love that Richard Dean Anderson worried that maybe O'Neill was too much of an insubordinate maverick, and then the chief of the US Airforce visited and said he had colonels who were WORSE than O'Neill.

Season 7 was chock full of Star Wars references. The Space battle of destroying the "Death Star" mothership weapon was straight out of ANH/ROTJ. Hell Jack being frozen at the end of Lost City was straight out of ESB. and plus the Kull warriors reminded me of Darth Vader.

Funny thing is, now you can also turn this around. Bypass a shield through hyperspace to destroy a planet-killing superweapon by destroying it's cooling system when it is ready to fire on a planet... Kind of what Han Solo did with the Starkiller Base in StarWars 7. But you're right : this episode is full of references to StarWars, especially when O'Neill says we wanted "Red Leader" as codename.

I love this show O'NEILL Carter, am I sensing fear in your voice? CARTER Yes, actually, a lot of fear. O'NEILL Well, stop it! You're making me nervous. Jackson: Hey. Wow. What the hell are you doing here? O’Neill: Nice to see you too. Jackson: No, sorry. I just wasn’t expecting to see you. Well I was in the neighborhood. And I’ve got a little surprise for Mitchell. Jackson: Oh. Yeah he loved the last one. O’Neill: Sorry you missed Daedalus. Jackson: No, you’re not. O’Neill: You’re right. I’m not. O’Neill: Listen, I just had a briefing with Landry…about…your stuff. Jackson: Yeah. O’Neill: Sounds like it could be a problem. Jackson: Well, we've been up against some pretty bad guys before. O’Neill: Yeah, not so pretty. Overdressed, yes. Jackson: Been through some tough situations. O’Neill: That we always won. Jackson: Yeah…but didn't you feel that was because we had someone looking out for us? Jackson: I don’t think I would say this to anyone else, but for the first time, I’m scared. O’Neill: I’m hungry. Jackson: Me too.

*Sam:* "Anubis' Ship is heavily shielded and carries a firepower greater than half the System Lords' fleets. Its defences are designed around a direct, large-scale assault. The X-302 should be able to penetrate the outer defence." *Jack:* "Pardon me for asking, major, but what good is the X-302 against that?" *Sam:* "Well, Anubis doesn't consider a small fighter to be any threat, or he'd have a tighter defence. An analysis of the plans provided by the Tok'ra has demonstrated a weakness in the ship. The approach will not be easy. You're required to maneuver through the shield and skim down the surface straight to a certain point. The target area is only two meters wide. It's a small thermal exhaust port, right below the main port. The shaft leads directly to the reactor system. A precise hit should cause a chain reaction, which should destroy the ship. Only a precise hit will set of a chain reaction. The location of the shaft is unknown, so we'll have to find it." *Jack:* "That's impossible, even for a computer!" *Jonas:* "Sounds easy to me..."

Here is a thought... Carter could remotely control from a safe distance, the F-302 to cause it to emerge from hyperspace inside the ship causing the ship to explode in the backwash from the hyperspace window...
@NATIK001
@NATIK001 5 лет назад
Would only cause limited damage to the ship. A ship traveling in hyperspace is still traveling at local sublight speed and while that can be quite significant, it is at best the equivalent of a similar size railgun shot hitting something inside the ship. If the SGC had access to unlimited amounts of Naquadria I am sure they would have made missiles with micro-hyperdrives on them to use in this fashion, but in this case they really only had a single fighter capable of micro-hyperspace jumping they had no way of guaranteeing that any missiles stocked on it would have time to explode after exiting hyperspace. Remember that a nuke has to be triggered, it doesn't just explode from contact, if the ship exited hyperspace inside the mothership it would almost certainly instantly impact an object and explode with the force of its mass combined with its sublight speed and with a small addition from the volatile explosives on board. Remember also that they don't know how to target a naquadria hyperspace jump on a vessel this small, so they don't know where they come out of hyperspace, they were just hoping O'niell wouldn't smash into the side of the mothership coming out of hyperspace, so they couldn't even just aim the fighter at a system vital to the weapon and let it go, they had to hit the target with conventional weapons like they did.
@irontusk341
@irontusk341 5 лет назад
The force of the hyperspace window Backwash, not the ship itself would cause the most damage.
@NATIK001
@NATIK001 5 лет назад
Hyperspace windows have never been shown on SG-1 or Atlantis to be able to cause damage on their own. If they have been shown to cause damage in of themselves on SGU then you can refer me to where that is stated.
@irontusk341

"there is a chance that the city could be ripped apart as we try to enter the hyperspace window." - Radek ZELENKA (SGA: Adrift) he was referring the insufficent power to open a hyper space window while powering the whole city with the city shield.. Another example. A wraith hive ship needs to drop out of hyperspace due to the stresses of its thick outer hull to regenerate. if a ship like the daedalus went into hyperspace without shields, it would be ripped apart in the process. And Janus's device increased the instability of the hyperspace window which made wraith ships more vulnerable and caused them to disintegrate when they entered hyperspace. Ancient/Tauri ships were spared because they were shielded.
@NATIK001
@NATIK001 5 лет назад
Hyperspace causing stresses on ships isn't evidence that you can use a hyperspace window as a weapon against something that isn't transitioning to hyperspace. Hyperspace is a subspace dimension with different physics than real space, obviously an unprotected ship will take damage under those conditions. Similarly a hyperspace window that isn't opened correctly won't be able to let something through. Neither is evidence that opening a hyperspace window near something that isn't entering will damage that thing.

Got to have a way to get the heat out somehow. It wasn't for HVAC or breathable air, it was for cooling a superweapon.
@asvarien
@asvarien 4 года назад
@@cirrustate8674 Yes but the only way to dissipate heat in space is by radiation, which means lots of flat panels with lots of surface area. So unless they are using some sort of gas to cool the weapon that then gets exhausted directly into space, a ventilation shaft is a silly plot device. Also using gas cooling wouldn't be a good idea since you can only use the weapon as long as you have a supply of the coolant gas which takes up space and mass in your space ship.
@a-blivvy-yus
@a-blivvy-yus 3 года назад
@@asvarien Fun fact: They don't have to fire the weapon constantly. Relying on venting gas (or liquid, it could be any kind of fluid coolant being vented into space) wouldn't be *INDEFINITELY* sustainable but it's a much, *MUCH* more efficient method of cooling than radiation. A high-energy superweapon is going to need efficient cooling more than sustainable cooling, so it makes sense to use an option that has the potential to actually solve the problem.

@SeraphSeph 2 года назад
The math for this is incredibly precise. You don't really want to try this with smaller ships since as she said there was not 0% chance that he could have literally warped into the ship. That's not even mentioning all the little things like "what if they adjusted their shields after this" "what if they're moving slightly too fast instead of hovering?" "What if they changed the size of their shields?" Etc. This plan had a ton of shit that could have gone wrong.

@@SeraphSeph they could build remote controlled, medium sized ships out of junk and use them in combination with hyperspace to pass the shields and re-emerge inside the enemy ship, which would destroy it or at least some vital parts of it. If they miss their target just try again.
