i miss stargate so much

There will never be another sci-fi TV series as amazing & dramatic as SGU. Not to mention the impressive & well matched music/soundtrack.

I am a 67 year old man and this song literally brings me to tears every time I hear it. Plus, combined with that ending scene I bawl like a baby.

RIP to Joel Goldsmith too. He died of cancer on April 29, 2012, aged 54 :( 12 days after this was uploaded. FYI.

It's hard to see how a show this good could get cancelled right when it was finding its voice. Scifi channel was ruthless here.

SGU was everything modern Star Trek should be but can't be. Really brilliant science fiction. I come back here occasionally to listen to really what must be Goldsmith's (r.i.p.) piece de resistance. Fitting, haunting, beautiful music.

This song really should have won *some* award - perhaps an Emmy even.

It's been nearly 2 years since Stargate Universe stopped producing episodes and yet still even today people want to see it comming back. I hope it will find new producers. It just deserves to get a second chance.

Dreamy, saddening and mysterious

The Ancients are with us.

This part of Gauntlet was so sad. In the first episode, you see Destiny waking up for it's crew. In the final episode the crew goes into stasis and Destiny goes to sleep…never to wake up again. (F.U. SyFy - SG:U > Wrestling)

Gorgeous…words can’t describe the nostalgia after 9 yrs. My 14 yr old daughter plays piano now and she heard this and was moved to start to attempt to play it. I was overjoyed to see this score affect my little girl even through she isn’t an SG fan. Hats off (and rip to Joel G. 😞) for creating such a moving piece.

Eli nailed it. Used the power from the shuttle and power suits to juice the chair, talked with his dead girlfriend for the answer.

I just love Stargate so much (SGU in particular) that I just had to learn how to play this song, and I have no idea how to play the piano.

They should have more of the part around 2:09 but still sounds nice. Funny to see the keys presented like this, for us non-music people. :) Damn I miss that show and the great music on it...

Fascinated by this moving image and it sound

You can see the beauty of symmetric composition in the notes. I have always imagined it is like climbingbthe stairs or continuing, surviving the journey of Destiny. It is so simple, but so catchy. Then the main melody starts in the middle which will be louder and prominent in time, but then the ship is flying away and it becomes quiet. Basically the music describes the path of the ship and what role the latest passengers have meant.

Love it! One of the best theme songs. Full of emotions.

This song is so sad. I wish there was a recording of the actual song without the sounds from the episode in it. Not that I don't appreciate the effort put into preserving this song.

@Woogoo336 re: ineffective ratings model is a problem most tv channels have: But Syfy is different from other channels in that its audience is much more likely to watch a downloaded show than most other networks (with few exceptions). For a channel like this to IGNORE those viewers is what's slowly bringing about Syfy's demise.

In the moments following the closing scene of the series, I turned off the television and never turned the Syfy channel back on again. As far as I'm concerned, the ending of SGU was something akin to experiencing the death of a friend. I'll never watch that network again.

It was better then SG1 and atlantis, yet only lasted two seasons.

If Sy Fy had really cared about the fans they wouldn't have began to auction off the props and stuff before the final episode aired.

I always wanted them to run into Ancients from the Pegasus Era, who knew of the Ancients of Earth and their Mission.. but thought of it as a bygone era and unimportant. But the new inhabitants of Discovery thought it was important.. they basically fought over the Discovery and Atlantis.. but the Pegasus Ancients were keeping a secret.. shielding the Children.. and eventually have to make a choice.. to loose themselves and pass everything on.. or take back what was lost.. and there in would lay the conflict.. and factions.. eventually some of the Pegasus Ancients.. not privledged to know the entire story.. stay with the Children of Earth and join their mission.. as the old ones ascend. Perhaps together they can fullfill the promise of Destiny and save both races.

Great, now I have to watch the series from this sad theme o.o

The final note leaves the song suspended, deliberately unfinished. O Joel Goldsmith, you say as much in a single note as the show could do in a thousand episodes. You too are missed.

Yes, I know MGM played a part as well, but the reality is Syfy relied on an outmoded ratings methodology, and they didn't effectively market what had been one of the most powerful dramas on television. The problem was not with the show. In capable hands, it would have done well. Few shows have had such a visceral reaction to cancellation. Syfy suffers from incompetence and a slavish attachment to an ineffective ratings model.

I don't know a lot about music (understatement) but it seems like most of the song could be played with one finger? Please make a 10h version :p

aw shootttt, i just memorised the old one, i dont really see the difference mind you, anyway, question how the heck you get synthesia to sound like this, all i got is a stuffy piano and i have to audio edit the recording to add any reverb or echo into it. Thanks for the reply

All 3 series were great loved the byt in all 3 the ending was so fucking stupid!

I love Star Wars, I love Star Trek and I loved Stargate Atlantis and Universe (SG-1 never really did it for me)

They already have, probably one of the worst channels ever (aside form being the only one that plays Stargate re-runs, but they can't even do that right), but since their parent company is NBC they can't really just go out of business.
