Anybody have the Fiera 4 or 8 amplifiers? What are your thoughts?
@StephenAtt797
@StephenAtt797 8 месяцев назад
I have one, now for about 18 months... powers my 4 surrounds and 4 atmos speakers offloaded from my Denon 4700H. works fine, plenty of power, no hum I can detect and runs really cool. My Atmos speakers are SVS Prime Els and my surrounds are 2 SVS Satellites and 2 Def tech Mythos Gems, all eight are 8 ohms. I'm fine with the ability to drive them to reference with the Fiera8

One more point. I was chasing the same hum in my room. Most likely the most frustrating thing to solve for. A brand new home, two independent master electricians and we couldn’t fix it. I concluded it was coming from my amps even with XLR connections. An $89 ground defender solved my issues. Thanks to my great Houston based installer Insane AV. If it were not for him, I would still be chasing it down

OSD 7 channel @ 200wpc for $1k, as opposed to the Fiera 8 channel amp for $1500, definitely have to, from a price standpoint go with the OSD. OSD, 1 less channel, but more power, and less money. Fiera, 1 more channel, 70wpc less, for $500 more.

@wendellwendellb339 Very fair comparison. I did think the price was a little high which is why I only gave it 3 stars for the price. Great amp tho! I’m curious to see how the OSD amps compare.

@@hatoraidcowboy I currently have a 2, 4, and 5 Emotiva BasX amps, and if I wanted to cut that number to just 2 amps (after a review of the OSD amps) for now I would lean toward the OSD amp, if what a commenter said as far as price for the new 7 channel OSD amp. I had a hum in my surround channels, but, when I changed the RCA cables for better one, the hum was gone. Guess better cables do help!

If you've noticed a lot of amps are stating their power ratings in 4 ohms now. I think audioholics tested this amp at 140w per ch at 8 ohms so its got plenty of power. This thing is underated especially if u use balanced connections. Thanks

Starke Sound makes some interesting stuff at a good price. Some of their specs throw me off a bit though. I’d like to see a power rating at a lower distortion than 1%. It’s also got a high input sensitivity which isn’t abnormal for class D amps but could be an issue for some receivers. Should be fine for a preamp with balanced outputs though. However, I’m guessing the low gain may be to offset some distortion issues. Since it’s a proprietary class D module or chip there’s no measurements on it. I’d love to see a full bench test bc it’s got a lot of potential if it holds up.

Sounds like You have a ground loop. I have the AD4 still, powering two pairs of magnepans. When i replaced a Rotel class D with the AD4 i could hear a hum that wasn't there before. The Rotel didn't have a ground pin. I tracked it down to my projector. I moved that to its own outlet and it was gone even with your ears on the Maggies. Yea im running a HT in 4.2. Replaced my emotiva UMC1 with a Yamaha A4A ( using pre outs ) noise floor is very low now. In my case the AD4 does its job very well and can handle my Maggies. Im glad they keep making improvements.

Totally Worth Amplifiers when running XLR Cables. I have the original Fiera AD4 & The Fiera 8 channel. Literally NO Hissing thru the speakers. Strongly considering buying/ replacing my 7 channel ATMOS amplifier for the 8 channel to run my 6atmos and 2 wide speakers. Then I’m done with amplifiers for now. Enjoy 😉👊🏾the amplifiers it worth the price.

Had the Fiera 8 but it didn’t work consistently for me. Channels would simply die out. This is plugged into a denon 4400 that works perfectly with an outlaw amp. Went through multiple units and to Starke’s credit they did refund my money after much troubleshooting…so that’s a positive. Sounded very good when it worked.

You really need to bring the Emotiva XPA-DR3 Differential Reference Three-Channel Power Amplifier. Nothing is going to compare running your front 3 channels. Like hard to drive B&W(s). The rest of the bed layer and heights can be driven by anything. Starke Sound used to sell an amazing Class A modular multichannel amplifiers that were game changing. I am all about big big power for the home theater. I just don't use or need the BassX amplifiers with RCA. There is cheaper and better.

Connect a wattage measurement device and you will have a shock when you realize how little power you really use from the amp vs something playing lower notes like a sub.
@evilinside5984
@evilinside5984 2 месяца назад
@shaolin95- There is impedance rise that occurs while playing audio. It is common to have 2x to 6x your wired impedance, as audio is playing. Example: In this video, he wired all 8 speakers, each @ a 4 ohm load= @ rest= while no audio is playing. If impedance were to be ✔️ed while playing audio, it could have read as Low as 8 ohms, and as high as 24 ohms, on some freq.. Just by doing math, that could change this amplifiers available power, to these speakers, while playing sound, from a Low of 50 watts per ch., to a high of 140 watts per ch. If playing @ Max Volume, which almost no one does. This is why it is recommended to buy an amplifier that has 2x the power, or more, of the speakers power handling.

@katstutrakatsturatorren Thank you!
@evilinside5984
@evilinside5984 2 месяца назад
@@katstutrakatsturatorren - Everybody should save $ then, and just buy a 1 watt per ch. amplifier then!? A more powerful amplifier, should be louder, if driven to the same % of its capabilities, as a lower power amplifier. Example: Lets say ALL amplifiers max out there power capability if given 4 volts. That means if an amplifier is given 1 volt, it will produce 25% of its maximum power. If given 2 volts= 50% power, 3 volts= 75% power, and if given 4 volts= 100% power output. So if you had a 50/wpc. amplifier, and turned up the volume to lets say -20= 2 volts ( in this example ), it should be putting out 25/wpc, or half power. Then lets say you just took this amp out, and put in 1 that makes 200/wpc., @ 4 volts. If you then turned up your volume to that same -20= 2 volts ( in this example ), it should be putting out 100 /wpc, or half power. This second amplifier, would be much louder, approx. +6DB, @ the same volume setting, just like in this video. Yes you can match DB levels, as long as the power level, of the lower power amplifier, is not exceeded. As you run out of headroom/power, from the less powerful amplifier, it will not be able to keep up, volume/DB wise.
