Hey, just wanna share a little tip with you on any of your fence lines that are slipping down if that is the only issue (here is the fix,)zip ties, zip tie Pole at the bottom will not slip down again and the heavier the zip tie the better, but can really use any of them hope this helps, especially if you mixed matching netting, or if you have any of knitting that slips down. And really all of them needs to be off the ground whether they have plastic tips or not and it also helps to stretcher it. Have a good one.

I don't know what kind of kickback Starkline gives you, but I bought the goat fence because of your videos, and it's absolute garbage. My very small goat destroyed it almost immediately. I couldn't be more disappointed in a product.

I’m sorry to hear that! We’ve never had a problem. We have sheep, goats, pigs and chickens in it. We have had to cull animals in the past that don’t respect the electric fence.

Really the part about the pole boot on the Starkline being better than Premier I think is of no consequence. If a hot wire is getting that close to the ground, grounding out the fence will happen on either product. Keeping the bottom charged line out of ground proximity is the major thing. The other problem with Starkline is the 164' net fencing. Even Premier's videos do not properly articulate this problem. 150' lengths like Premier can be very tiring when rolling it up or deploying it. It is heavy and bulky. Notice how few videos show deploying or stowing the fence multiple times. Showing any net fencing on pasture hardly equates to the problems you will have putting through a thicket, or worse still picking all the snagging limbs out of it when you pick it up! The bigger problem with the Starkline goat fencing is how short it is. That shorter fence is fine if you are handling dwarf breeds, but even my nubian does can clear the taller 48" one by Premier, though that only happened once. They really have to be severely provoked (like being left alone in the paddock) for one to attempt leaping over the fence. Once she had a sister with her she never has tried it again. The biggest problem with Premier is availability. Customer service is first rate, parts availability is weak. I suspect because demand it very high. I would avoid the PVC poles too especially in warmer environments. If you have to add pole$ to maintain sturdine$$ you are adding expense. Buy the sturdier fiberglass poles. The major reason I did not buy Starkline's shorter goat fence is that I think 48" is a little short even from Premier. The poultry netting is taller, but the fence has slightly more resistance, and the problem with goats is that a fence that will stop a cow may only cause a determined goat to look back after charging through the fence. The increased resistance could be, not will be, a problem. I like Premier's Prima Shock energizer. What is really nice is that it has a meter on it and if it is showing a deterrence level voltage on the meter the fence is operating. The first day I put it out, I heard pops followed by "BAHS!!!!" and by morning even breakfast did not bring a goat closer to the wire than a foot away. If Starkline ever starts selling a 48" or taller goat fence I may be in the line for that product.
@tillmanfamilyfarm7759
@tillmanfamilyfarm7759 Год назад
There is no metal at the bottom of Starklined premium pole for the wire to hound out too. Also Starkline does make a 48’ tall sheep and goat netting. I’d say we have about 1000’ or better. And probably a 200 step in post so no worries on the pvc post. I still use because it’s there to use! 🤣 thanks for watching!
@katrinaanon1038
@katrinaanon1038 Год назад
@@tillmanfamilyfarm7759 You mean 48" tall...You'd be snagging helicopters with that one :-]. If they are making a 48" goat fence that is a new kettle of fish. Before 48" fencing was only their poultry netting, which I was unwilling to experiment with. I still would not use the PVC, the rigidity of fiberglass seems to be the way to go, but YMMV. Regardless of higher impedance all one needs to do is intelligently design their segments for the energizers they have. I am a fan of the prima shock as it seems to be used worldwide and for animals even more difficult to deter. Once I learned how to use the meter on the unit, just walking by I can tell if the energizers segments are working properly. My major ding on Starkline was no 48". So it will be necessary at some point to evaluate some Starkline. The major negative with Premier was availability. They are frequently out of some products especial pos/neg fencing which I do not need in my climate. I am certainly going to look more closely at Starkline, because someone wants me to manage a new goat and sheep operation. With as much fencing this might entail a mixture of Starkline and Timeless fencing sounds enticing.

Guys can I ask the dumb question - I am assuming that the bottom black ‘wire’ on the netting is not metal? As of course it is going to be in contact with the ground and short out…. I am just asking as I have just pinned that down with about 200 metal stakes/ tent pins!!! Great videos by the way. Apologies if you explained that in the video or previous clips

Do you have to have a closed circuit to have the fencing energized? I have both sides butting up to opposite sides of a shed, but can not get the fence to be hot, what the heck am I doing wrong? I didnt think it mattered if it was run in a straight line, it would still be hot? Thanks

I would use the 48” tall premium poultry netting. The hole are smaller which makes it a great choice to protect against small animals. Charger depends on how close to power you are. Chris, How are you? I was wondering, do you have any issues with feral pigs trying to get into your sounders? I'm in the middle GA area and we had some pigs in a grow out pen that when butchered, they were all full of pig embryos. Later, we found a roving boar in the area and determined HE was the culprit because he didn't care about wooden or electric fences.

I'm looking at chicken fencing. Does this keep mink and other small predators out? Any problems with animals digging under?
@tillmanfamilyfarm7759
@tillmanfamilyfarm7759 Год назад
I’ll be honest. In my location (middle Georgia) we don’t have small predators like mink. We have never had a fox, coyote or wild dog dig under it. Those squares I would think a mink would go right through. But if you’re use a really hefty charger it would be hard for them not to get hit. Our herding dogs mess up and get hit every now and then and take off like a rocket back to the house.
@jollyroger5646

@@tillmanfamilyfarm7759 wow, light predation, I'm jealous! 🤣 In WV, we've got, just about, everything! I've got a .1 J charger I used for horses and hogs. I saw you have a good sized pen, what size charger do you use, or recommend? Likin' the channel!
@tillmanfamilyfarm7759
@tillmanfamilyfarm7759 Год назад
The biggest charger I use is a Gallagher S40. It hurts. Trust me. I run the cows on it as they move. Most of the pigs and chickens run on a Gallagher S20 with no issues. Every now and then the birds will fly out for whatever reason. If we don’t catch them they don’t last long!!! We are now running around 300 egg layers so we normally have to walk up on a pile of feathers to even know ones gone. We have had trouble with airborne attacks more than anything. Hawks, owls and Osprey. We added a bunch of black chickens and that has stopped.
