I really miss this version - I was a big fan of the german production and saw over 300 performances until they changed it completly 2018. What a pity that I couldn't see it in London back then, at least I enjoyed to see Gareth in all the characters he played when he was part of the Bochum cast.
Thank you to whoever recorded this and put it on RU-vid!! … it’s been in my memory for the last 20 years with only the cd and programmes to remember it by. Brings back SO many childhood memories, just the sound of the screens coming down before the races makes me feel so excited like I’m 7 years old again 🤣 I was only 8 when it got taken off the west end and I remember I cried my eyes out when my parents told me. Despite only being 8 I saw it about 14 times and for my 13th birthday I went to Bochum to see it… I wish they’d bring it back to London 😭 the UK tour was so bad it was depressing
@@Baconlettucetomatoewish I could go but I'm not hopeful with my health and living in Merseyside would need an overnight and we have a dog and 15 year old we can't just leave. I hope they decide to keep it as a long run than currently advertised.
@@queenmedesa well when CB was first removed from this version of the show, they had Dustin sing that one for a while before ditching it all together along with CB’s Wide Smile High Style, which really can’t be sung by anyone else. The thing with CB is that he’s the one who causes most of the problems by manipulating Rusty, Greaseball, and Electra. Without him, the plot has to move forward via happenstance, which really isn’t that much fun. Plus, a freight train without a caboose just feels incomplete.
Have no idea how a female greaseball is going to work but nothing is stopping me from going to see this show again. It was my adhd / autistic everything and still is to this day 40 years later
Today, it has been twenty-two years on the dot since the original London production of Starlight Express had it's final performance. Honestly, even though I wasn't even alive yet and I was still quite young the last time the show was even in the UK, I'm glad to say that I'll be one of the younger ones to see this show this year in the new revival.
@@disneydanny2 apart from a re-paint of the tracks and new lighting there was nothing new added to the set apart from the big fibre optic "star" for the starlight sequence the set remained the same as it always had been previously
Just found this.So many fantastic memories that I recall (and a lot that I don't!!!) Peter Van Hook played drums for the 1st 18 months then I took over for the whole of the rest of the run. Probably the most enjoyable 16 1/2 years of my life. What an adventure! Tom Nichol
@@DodgyBob-xx8zt I think the production was so impressive at the Appollo. The staging and setup was so different to any other show I have ever seen. The audio was loud and punchy which made the whole show drive. Its a shame that you can't buy a DVD of the show. Ive seen the traveling version a couple of times, it was good but not as impressive as the London version.
@@pixusphotographic Couldn't agree more my friend! I have the CD but a DVD would have been great! I was exceptionally lucky to see it about 30 - 35 times live, both the first "edition" and then the later edition with new songs, and including the very last performance. I'm a coach driver, and parking is ok at Victoria in the evening so I was able to park easily and go in!! The problem with the touring show, we saw it at Oxford, was the actual races were videos and not live, which of course was understandable as they were a temporary show so couldn't get the racetrack set up on a permanent basis, but seeing the races live, was so exciting! I now believe it is still showing in Germany (Bochum) and if it is, and it continues after the CV19 pandemic is clear, my wife and I are going to visit it again!! Take care and keep well.
Saw it when at school camp in London 1986 - First dinner at Tony Roma’s in St. Martins Lane then Starlight Express at Apollo Victoria … fashinated by the moving bridge … show was marvelous and lightyears ahed of todays travelling versions
I saw an ad to audition for the German cast in Bochum in 2000, I wish I'd audition. I speak German and figure skating and roller skating is very similiar
I recognize that menu in the beginning. I had that same DVD-writer/tape player in 2001. This was copied off of VHS onto DVD and then ripped from there to a computer.
Umm, where is Ashley's verse in Lotta Locomotion, did I miss it? And Belle? And CB??? And Pearl/Rusty's Only You? Yeah, I think I'll stick to the soundtrack of the original and best but thanks for posting anyway.
Since Starlight Express in London at the Apollo Victoria Theatre went under a heavy revision in November 1992, Didn't the script remain the same until closing night without any more revisions?
