I made a mistake a while back. I thought I had printed my best groups in my 243 Winchester Savage 12FV (Telekinesis) using Remington brass. The more garbage targets and ugly velocity charts I saw, the more it became obvious that Remington was holding me back. So I made the switch to Starline brass, and immediately turned trash into treasure. Each case is made with extreme precision, especially its internal capacity. Each of the five cases I measured contained EXACTLY 53.5 grains of water. Does it make a difference, though? Yes. The Starline cases produced smooth velocity curves and predictable placement on paper. Watch and see what groups I can print.

It's just the difference in the brands of brass causing the difference in accuracy. It's not the quality. you could tune your load with each brand and get the accuracy back. Another thing that could be causing accuracy issues is the need for annealing the necks. I've seen it improve accuracy immensely.

.243 and 6mm rem are older rounds but dang they are good ones tho. I hunted with both for years and never had a deer run. I love long range shooting now ... wish I had started shooting long range sooner but gotta start somewhere. Next I need to finish buying my reloading so I can get everything dialed in 👍

Wow. I've got 3-4 firing on my hornady brass and I realize I've outgrown them at this point: i can shoot better than they allow without skyrocketing my prep costs. I was sure I was going to need to jump to Nosler or Lapua to get my next steps but this looks promising. If you had to guess what their weak link is, how they're getting them that consistent with the price so low, what would it be? Cheaper alloy that needs annealing sooner?

Starline used to get a bum rap, but I have had excellent results with their 6.5 Creedmoor brass. All of the 6.5 Grendel reloaders at my Gun Club use Starline that I’m aware of. I’ve heard good things about their 5.56 NATO brass, which has a very tough base and the primer pockets stay uniform for a very long time.

I am starting to look at the 243 Winchester in a new light . I’m regretting selling my Tikka M55 243 Winchester a few years ago . When i used to own it I always thought about re barreling it with a fast twist but there were no match grade high BC bullets sold by the big bullet manufacturers at the time . I think I might have to build myself a PRS 243 Winchester rifle soon 😀

I think you might be misinterpreting your data or maybe leaving out a variable to come to your conclusion. The remington brass case capacity is gonna be different enough to require you to do load work up.

That's really interesting. In all 3 of my rifles my 06, 270 Model 70 Winchester and my 270 Weatherby Vanguard shot it's best groups with the Federal and Winchester brass. I can't get any Star line right now. But I'd love to try them. I was shooting at least .300 MOA in all 3 rifles.

Just getting started with .243 Win as well for my first time reloading. Have some 87 grain V-Max. Wondering which powder will work best? Have Win760, H4350 & IMR4895 “even though no load listed for V-Max with the 4895. Also will be reloading factory shot cartridges of Win brass and Norma. I have heard Norma makes good brass. Any thoughts on all of this is much appreciated.

Social, how full do you make your case when filling with water when figuring case capacity? Is it even with the top or do you allow the cohesive tension to make the 'bubble' over the top of the case? Everything I have read says 'case overflow' but what does that mean? Thanks.

I buy Lake City 5.56 and 7.62 by the pound. But for NEW cases that you can load to spicy 5.56 pressures this Starline #3440 is tough to beat. The base is strengthened to hold uniform primer pockets. www.starlinebrass.com/556x45mm-brass/

@ 10:05 - FL sizing brand new cases is counter intuitive... They're already sized, you're just work-hardening the brass. Chamfer the ID & brush the neck, prime, load 'em up... 😐
@SocialRegressive
@SocialRegressive 2 года назад
Full-length-sizing a new case is counterintuitive, but often useful. I've had new necks that were slight out-of-round. Nowadays I make absolutely sure the case is to spec before loading it.

How can the water capacity be the same when the cases did not all weigh exactly the same? (starline) Wouldn't it mean that the capacity was off the same amount that the brass weight was?
@scottstewart5784
@scottstewart5784 3 года назад
the extra weight could be in parts of the case that don't affect its volume (on the outside)
@hazcat640
@hazcat640 3 года назад
@@scottstewart5784 But you are measuring volume by weight. So to get the actual volume you would need to zero each case as they all weigh different then weigh the water in each case.
