Congrats for your starlink! several things i wanna comment on 1- the speed you showed is the wifi speed between your phone and router basically your LAN speed and nothing to do with the internet 2- the app doesn't scan the satellites or use the camera for anything its just for you as a guide, how it works is that the app gets your gps location and then based on the movement of your hand( gyroscope and compass) it determines the location and visibility 3- gaming doesn't need fast internet and no difference between a 240p game and 4k game in data usage it depends on the type of game and netcode. 4- no need to hide your IP address as this is a private address that is only available on your local network the public address is visible in the router or visiting a website that tells you.
I was about to comment all that. I understand he is VERY excited about his new toy but many of those claims sounded SO cringey to anyone who understand networking 😅
Mine just arrived! My back porch is similar to yours, so I ordered the pipe mount and will attach a piece of pipe (or conduit) to one of the corner posts on the porch and extend it up 5 or 6 feet. This way I don't have to drill the roof or worry about the dish being buried with several feet of snow. Hope to get it set up soon. Thanks for a great video!
Received mine yesterday. So far I've been able to test it in: light rain, heavy rain, clear skies, light snow, and heavy snow - all in 18 hours. Spring in the northeast. It's been great. from 20mbps during heaviest rain up to 200mbps+ on clear skies and light snow.
Dots are not satellites they just ensure that you create a full panoramic. Glad to see you scanning at dish height rather than six feet above the roof.
The speed you show in settings 433Mbps is not your Internet speed. use a speed test service like, Ookla speedtest or something similar and your IP well it is an IP but is a private address which falls into a C network "192.168.1.x" range as stated by RFC 1918. So nothing to worry about it.
Congrats on Starlink! I just got shipping confirmation for mine which should get here next Wednesday! I've been stuck with 1mbps on a good day cellphone hotspot and have never had double digit mbps speed so pretty much whatever speed I get will be heaven. Can't wait!
@@theaveragegolfer4644 Mine’s been working great! Speed drops during rainy conditions but that’s to be expected. It’s SO nice to be able to watch videos stream without buffering or being blurry 👍🏼
Starlink is a game changer. We used to have to download our videos while in town getting groceries or buying hay. Having internet is awesome. I don’t think we could livestream but anything else works pretty well.
i just got my order put in today which also happens to be my birthday, thanks for the present elon! i will be going from a crappy mobile hotspot to this, hope it is worth it.
Ordered one here yesterday here in the UK. Even tho my 4G on my phone is 138Mbs. I want to take it to remote areas as we loving camping and hiking world world. Bought a huge Power Bank that could run a house for 2 days, plenty enough for the 80 Watts per hour for the SL Dish.
If we are seeing it as you are during the unboxing why are the wires loose and missing the wire ties? Mine was all neat and tidy. You pulled a handful of spaghetti out of the box.
Does the dish move on its own once you have it plugged in? It looks like it can rotate, but it’s super stiff and starlink’s instructions suck. We don’t own the house we’re at so I’m hesitant to put it anywhere with bolts and was going to settle with placing the tube inside some pvc pipe and facing it the direction I wanted it to point.
Between the satellite and the modem is that just a standard Ethernet cable? I already have a cable run from outside to inside for my present satellite internet which is crap but I wonder if I got this if I could use that same cable?
Don't worry about covering that IP address, that's only your local one, no one can know where you are from it. Every router gives you one that starts with 192.168., totally useless, random number.
