That guy was actually the owner of the store. Some people had already robbed the store not too long ago, so the owner prepared by wearing a vest. That vest actually saved him, as you can see the guy with the gun ended up pulling out a knife trying to stab the man.
Notice how he casually removed his eyeglasses with a handgun pointed at him. He planned to do hand to hand immediately and patiently waited for the right moment.

If you look closer you can see the robber pull out a huge knife and tries to stab him like 5 times. Not sure why it didn't pierce his skin. Maybe it had one of those clear plastic (?) sheathes
