@@witoldlaszuk2543 In older times rubber ropes were used from steep hills. The plane was held back while the ropes were stretched and then released - like with a sling shot or catapult.
Seems a bit pointless - unless sometimes they can stay up long enough to find some lift. Maybe when there is some wind (this seemed a quiet day) there is some hill lift. Otherwise not much use except to practice landings.

It's a great video of course, but were the bird's chirps and tweets added in later? I'd love to try this once, must be quite an experience and it's a great example of transferring potential energy into kinetic energy...
If you have ever been under a glider in an emergency that is flying heavy and it does a fuel dump, the deluge of fuel is enormous. Then while coming in for a landing and having lots of trouble, it did a bounce off the runway and throttled up for a go around. The roar from the engines was, deafening! Then it touched down the second time and the screach from the engines being thrown in reverse was ear piercing! Even with engine problems, a glider sounds very impressive.

QUICK!!!! Someone call the police as there's a pesky drone flying dangerously close to a real aircraft! On a more serious note, that's a very cool way to take off in a glider! 😁👍👍
Would be very cool if I thought it was real. Look at the distortion all around the glider.... looks faked to me. Probably why this hasn't been seen before? Also, why the obvious dubbed in bird noises?
