In this tutorial, we will learn how to start a flow, or stop a flow in a Fluid Simulation in Blender. If you add a flow object into a scene, by default it runs all throughout the simulation duration. But you can easily control it, stop it or start it at your preferred time, just like a tap water. We have discussed two different methods to achieve this - one easy method, and another little more sophisticated & better technique. Please watch the video for the complete tutorial. If you have any question on this tutorial, please leave your comment below.
If you are new to Fluid Simulation in Blender, you can watch the below tutorial where I have discussed the basic steps in details:

Hi, what can cause the simulation to not show on play or after bake?
@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender ะ“ะพะด ะฝะฐะทะฐะด
Either the domain resolution is too low compared to the domain size, or the flow object may be too small (there is a sweet spot between the domain size, resolution division and the flow object size - with bigger domain size you need to either increase domain resolution sufficiently or increase the size of the flow object). Other causes may be that the flow object is almost covered by an effector, or Blender's cache files are simply outdated - you need to manually refresh the cache. So far as I have seen, all issues are limited to one of these 4 causes mentioned here.

How do you keep the domain object (The Cube) from showing up in the final product?
@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender ะ“ะพะด ะฝะฐะทะฐะด
A baked domain never gets displayed as a cube. The problem you are facing is due to an incorrect baking. You need to bake the domain for the entire length of your video, otherwise it will show up as a solid box. For some reason if you need to bake only part of it, you can hide the domain box for rest of your video by dynamically changing its size factor to zero. Keep the original size when needed, and after that change it to zero with a suitable pair of keyframes. Then it won't be visible in the render outside the bake region.

@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender 3 ะณะพะดะฐ ะฝะฐะทะฐะด
There can be multiple possible reasons behind this. The most probable reason is, your old bake cache is not refreshed or deleted, and hence Blender is playing the old data, although you have baked it. Try changing the resolution division so that the cache is refreshed. Sometimes it still does not work. You may need to manually delete the cache files. Among other reasons, one could be related to the size of your flow object. The flow object does not work if it is too small in size compared to the domain and you have set a lower resolution division. If these things do not fix the problem, you can kindly share your blend file with us, and we will be more than happy to help you out in finding the root cause of the problem. You can get our contact details (Email ID) from the About section of this channel. Thanks for your visit!

Hello, I hope you can help me stop the Flow from keyframing? For me, it's a Honey-like substance that has to be turned on and off. If I Bake that before and after then it takes a very long time sometimes a lot of frames later that the flow only stops after I have keyframes. And suddenly the collision with my other object no longer works. I hope you can and want to help with this? I also tried by setting the Domain setting to Type Modular, but after the Data Baking the Mesh Bake button remains gray (even though Mesh is checked), so I have it bake in type: All. I work in Blender 3.01. can I contact you about this somewhere? For the rest, a nice and powerful Tutorial, and I want to know what exactly I'm doing wrong and how to solve it?๐Ÿ˜Š I hope you can give tips etc?

When the water is not flowing (usually on early frame) my render result always showing the domain box and its gone at the time the water is animated. i realize, if the animation start and end on the domain isn't match with the flowing water timing, the box is always showed in render result. how to fix this? already set the domain to wire and checked mesh on the domain option.
@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender 2 ะณะพะดะฐ ะฝะฐะทะฐะด
I faced this issue, it is simple. Let me first explain what happened in my case. My animation was from frame 1 to frame 500. But I needed the water only from frame 150 to 350. So I baked the fluid simulation only from 150 to 350. However, when I ran the animation, the domain box was appearing outside that range. So I baked the fluid simulation all throughout from frame 1 to frame 500. Then there was no such box visible in render. So quick fix: Change your simulation length to match that of your animation length, bake the simulation entirely, and then check. If this does not solve your issue, I think I need to look at your particular blend file. If you can kindly send your blend file, I will get back to you. Our contact details (Email ID) are given in the About section. Thanks!

@@5MinutesBlender I did match the end and start frame. in fact i tried with fresh new blend file. i use replay type so i'm not baking anything. because when i use modular and bake it, every frame is covered with the box, can't see the water at all (while replay render only show the box when there is no water). i tried with several new blend files and result the same. i use quick fluid option. will try manually making without instant set up from blender and see how it goes.

In the following tutorial ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UHqh-Pe5WXI.html ) these steps are explained. We need to bake twice, once for the fluid simulation, and once for the mesh. @5MinutesBlender

You need to reduce the size of the flow object and enable-disable its flow property in quick succession. Like enable at frame# 200 and disable at 205, again enable at 220 and disable at 225 etc. It will produce droplets of water instead of a running flow.

Nothing happens when checking the flow before verifying..No blue particles shown (even after baking). What are your other settings for the fluid simulation?
@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender 2 ะณะพะดะฐ ะฝะฐะทะฐะด
Sorry to hear that. We did not use any special setup, all other settings are same as the default setup. But there can be various reasons why the simulation fails for your scene. First of all, please let me know whether the slow down of the fluid is not happening in your case, or whether the fluid simulation is entirely not visible at all. In the later case, the culprit can be either the cache files, or the scale of your scene. The size of your flow object, size of the domain, and the resolution of the domain must be within a realistic range - otherwise you wont see any fluid. Please try to increase the domain resolution. Also, an old cache file can often break everything. And the fact is, Blender's own clear cache buttons do not always work. I have mentioned a work around for this, changing the domain resolution would usually refresh the cache. Please try these things and let me know what results you get.

@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender 2 ะณะพะดะฐ ะฝะฐะทะฐะด
As far as I know, there is no such change in version 3.0 (I just checked it now once again). If you select the domain object, and go to the particle properties tab, you will see the particle system created by Blender (which you can edit as per your requirement). Essentially it is same as before. The particle system is attached to the Domain object, not to the Flow object. Can you please re-check once?

You need to play with Viscosity and Surface Tension, found under the Viscosity and Diffusion tabs in the domain object (Physics properties). It is a sticky glue type material with little transparency as well. We will make plans for a tutorial on this sometime later.

Hi, there can be several reasons for this. 1) Your domain resolution may be too small for the scene. If you have a big domain and a small flow object, you need to use a high value for the domain resolution, otherwise no fluid will be generated. 2) Your cache files may be outdated, you need to clear them. Sometimes clearing them from within Blender does not work, it's a bug. You need to manually delete those files from your system. 3) If you are using an effector, make sure that it is not too close to the flow object, there is sufficient gap between them, and it does not cover the flow object entirely, otherwise flow won't be generated. While there can be some other reasons as well, these are the most common reasons when we see nothing is happening.

We have added chapter links into the tutorial so that one can directly jump to the particular section he needs to watch. In this tutorial, we have discussed two different methods and one improvement technique on top of that. Not sure if the entire thing can be realistically covered within one minute. There are many viewers who are new to Blender, and we constantly receive requests to explain the basics in order to setup a scene. For experienced users, I believe the chapter shortcuts will help. If you have another suggestion, please let us know, we are all ears! And lastly, I am glad that it somehow helped you too :D All the best!
