CJ, yes! I actually do that with my Aileens glue. The FabriTac is tricky because if it's upside down, it flows out too fast. Actually really good to lay it on its side, but I never remember to do that! Thanks for watching, my friend! Hugs! ❤️

Hi Gayle! I'm re-watching this series as I'm going to be creating a journal and will be following along with yours. Really enjoyed this -thank you! My question is: Do you usually decorate/embellish your front cover at the beginning (after covering it with the fabric or paper)? I'm always worried that I will do something to ruin it (spill something on it or get it caught on something and the embellishments rip or fall off, etc), or that too much handling throughout the creation and assembly of the rest of the journal will make it look too "worn". I'm not talking about MAKING the cover - more about embellishing and decorating it. What's your preference - and why? Thanks! ~Pam
@gayleagostinelli_ct
@gayleagostinelli_ct 6 лет назад
Boy, this a hard one! I do the cover at different times depending on when the inspiration strikes me. Sometimes I just don’t know what I want to put on it until I’m well into making the journal, but sometimes I make and decorate the cover first. I know that is so wishy washy, but hope it gives you some creative freedom to just do what feels right with a particular journal. ❤️
@pamelal210
@pamelal210 6 лет назад
Thanks, Gayle. Right now, I really DON'T know how I want to decorate it - but now I'm not worried about it anymore. :-D That's great advice and it really resonated with me - because although I have a general idea and theme in mind, I've never been one to plan out every single detail, placement, flower, tag, etc. I've made lots of mini albums, but this will be my first journal and I'm a wee bit nervous about it. Anyway, thanks - and if you guys ever get out to Vegas during your travels we could have lunch. 😊

Hi Gayle - First I want to thank you for your awesome videos. When you showed the cereal box as the base for your book - I HAD to let you know that you are using an acid based product and it is NOT archival. It will not stand up to the test of time..... may save you money now but it will bring heartache later when it doesn't last by discoloring and rotting - thought you'd want to know.
@gayleagostinelli_ct
@gayleagostinelli_ct 6 лет назад
Sara Hanlon thank you for the info. I don’t advertise my journals as archival. I make them to be enjoyed for as long as they can be...that depends on the user. If they are stored in the sun or they get wet, they are not going to last as long...the list goes on. I have journals from others made in this manner and they are just fine. I really do appreciate your concern, but honestly...it’s a Junk Journal. I’m more concerned with repurposing than it lasting for generations. Look at the book that I put on the cover...it’s a mess after two generations. I think if books of any kind are treated gently and with respect, they will last long enough to please their owner. Again, thanks for your thoughts and thanks for listening to mine. ❤️

It's so interesting watching you make a journal from scratch. That lace is the perfect touch on the inner spine, not feminine at all and the tea stain makes it lean more toward masculine. I love the way you incorporated the old cover of the book and the red gingham behind it brings out the red in the cover. I love the crocheted lace on the front coming to a point. The way you put the name plate on it almost looks like an old fashion ornament. : )
