I've only ever made a couple of journals. I've always scrapbooked but then we sold our home and everything, just about, so I got out of the scrapbooking and now I quilt. You might say I had to choose my crafts carefully however I love your journals and well, thank the good Lord my husband built me a sewing nook in our 5th wheel because this craft I am going to do. I can't do full scale but I can do some. I have already started collecting some things. I just enjoy your style of teaching and your personality. Thanks. By the way if your wondering we are full time RVers. We are now in Vero Beach Florida and in the summer we go up to Pennsylvania as my mom is still living there. Thanks again. Chris
Today is my...uh hum...76th birthday and I ordered 3 items off your list at Amazon!! The glass mat, the binding kit and the Epson photo paper!! And, not from your list, a new sewing machine!!!!! I'm SO SO excited!!! I hope the Montana fires aren't close to you? You are always talking about the gorgeous woods that is really close to you....I know you worry a little about them. What a pity that so many places in the country have fires that destroy such exquisite scenery every year....so sad for every one that is affected. Those upholstery fabrics you are using make really beautiful covers!!! I'm going to be on the lookout for some scrapes in Joann's or on line for some!!!!! I also love quilted fabrics as covers!! I was just about giving up on your projects that need sewing because i dont have a sewing machine. You are so kind to share with us that there is another way to do the journal cover without sewing. So grateful to you. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Be sure to keep in mind that sewing is just another way of “attaching”, so any time you see memory other sew, you can likely to the same thing with glue. 😁❤️

There is a spray called 505 spray adhesive. We use it to hold quilt pieces together for cutting & backing & batting to quilt top. You could spray your base & place your pieces down. No extra glue needed. It is repositional & your sewing machine will not have a problem sewing thru it.

Hurray! I'm so happy that you are ready to invest in a new chair. You need a good one. It's a craft tool, you know. You can put a mat under it to help move on the carpet. I love the grain sack fabrics. Very cute.
I just adore this chenille cover Gayle. I have seen these made into baby journals and they are just so adorable. The soft textures, the colors, the patchwork; OH MY! My time has been very limited of late but I love playing around with little fabric pieces and all the different stitches on my sewing machine.

Hey Gayle, thank you for saying you didn't see a lot of difference between Fabric Tac and Fabric Fix. I just bought a new bottle of Fabric Tac today and I originally picked up the Fabric Fix but then put it back because I wasn't sure. I know it's a little thing but good information to keep in my back pocket next time I'm in need of glue. Thank you. Cover is gorgeous. TFS
apparently there is also a 3-in-1 glue by Beacon and Nik B/S thinks there is no different with any of them...however I can't get that easily here, so I have to use what is available...
I use the 3 in 1 from Beacon also I don’t know if there’s any difference. if you look on their website they have a million of them they have a mixed media one but I’ve never seen that in the store. I should write them and ask them if there’s any difference.

I'm a big believer in having a work horse sewing machine for oddball sewing, saving my nice machine for formal stitching. Mine is a Husky that I purchased from my fabric store which was taken as a trade in and refurbished. Husky is made by Husqvarna.
When our renos are done I will try my singer machine, Ived had it fir about 7 years and used it 3 times, I never seen seen journals till I watched you Gayle, but I’m going too, I make loads of journals and always glue, lol, I buy glue in bulk!
Thanks for the video. I just found a chenille bed spread at the bins and I am looking forward to using it. For those subbies who don't have a sewing machine yet, Craigslist is great for finding things. We junk journalers love reusing old things. If you can put a little maintenance into an older machine it could be worth the time and money.
When you do get your new chair at Staples, also get the plastic chair runner. It goes under your chair so you can roll along. My hubby loves having it under his desk. I am sooo glad you made 3 book covers! I love having an hour long Gayle video. The patchwork is adorable!! 💜💜💜

It always makes me happy to see other crafters use cereal boxes in their covers. My hubby gives me so much (playful, mostly) grief over it. I've never done my covers like this, but I'll definitely have to try it! I don't have a sewing machine, so mine are always glued, but it's somehow different. Thanks for sharing!

This is a great way to use up all the boxes and fabric remnants I have been saving! I will probably sew, but this might be a good option for when my granddaughters come to visit and want to “make a journal.” I have had a Singer machine for years and my husband gifted me with a heavy duty Singer for Christmas for all my paper sewing - $160 on Amazon. Love this thanks Gayle. I was wondering why you didn't add glue to the inside of the second side of the muslin in the no sew cover? A little tip, when you are doing patchwork, its easier to take a quick photo of the pieces you have laid out, that way you can check you are doing it the same way, at a glance.
Theis Cover is beautiful. I live the apholstry fabric for covers. It's just the right weight of fabric. I got my current seeing at Walmart. It's a brother and cost me $59.00. I've had it for about 5 years. I have it serviced every other year and it runs fine for all of my sewing and craft needs. I use baby wipes in many ways. Ithaca ones that I use for glue cleanup dry quite stiff. I cut them in strips, fold them and make tiny folded roses with them. I said channel just before you chose it lol
Great tutorial as always! the patchwork one gave me a great idea I was just thinking getting old pieces of shirts or dresses from somebody that's passed to make a memory Journal. You give me so much inspiration. Thank you!! Absolutely yummy covers! I have an extra sewing machine that I picked up from it was either offer up or let go. Those are both sites where people listings in your local area. this way my good sewing machine is just for material and the other sewing machine is going to be just for journals things of that nature. I believe I paid 25 or 30 bucks for it. It's older but it works great. 💚💙💜🧵🔖📚
I just LOVE the chenille cover. It reminds me so much of my younger days. My sister and I had a light pink chenille bedspread with dark pink flowers on our bed. We all had chenille bedspreads, but my brothers; they had a denim jean one. I have learned so much from your videos.
I’m in my Goodwill several times a month & they often have sewing machines. I picked up a Simple Singer machine for $20. It needed a needle but everything else was good. I think it normally cost about ? $149 at JoAnns. They also have some heavy metal ones, like your old one you used while yours was in the shop. Yard sales are another good source for used machines. So second hand is good enough too.
I have always loved a crazy quilt but it needs embroidery to make it great. Also I have done books covers with satin with batting and backed with cotton material. With the satin you could make the batting thick enough to push brads or needle and thread thru to add fun to the front. well I guess it is just thoughts but maybe you could use these ideas for a starting place, maybe. Just thinking and I love your videos and your ideas, it starts me off on a wild tangent. Enjoying your videos. Hugs Lady!!
Hi Gayle! Love watching you create! As far as the office chair on carpet…. I use one that has the rollerblade wheels and it’s pneumatic! But as far as organizing my stuff … I struggle with categorization ephemera to be able to “ Generically grab” and go with decorating ideas. I’m constantly reorganizing and can’t seem to come up with a system. If you could touch on the subject or guide me to some videos, it would be appreciated wholeheartedly. Thanks for all you do! You are fantastic in all the videos I’ve seen so far! Lol… even my husband knows “It’s Gayle!”
I'm also a viewer who doesn't own a sewing machine, but I do think the sewing stitches add an extra layer of love. I frequently think when making a project, "This needs zig zag stitches."

Hi Gayle. First I want to thank you for your tutorials. I really enjoy them and I learn from them. I do want to make a comment about the Singer sewing machines from Joann. No offense to you at all. I just want to share my experience with my Singer from Joann. My machine was a Singer as I mentioned. I paid about 200.00 for it. It broke after very light and little use. I took it back to Joann b/c it was just over a year old. They told me they wouldn't recommend fixing it b/c it would cost more than purchasing a new one. And I was told to buy a new machine. I was shocked an establishment would put such little regard to my low end machine as the sales lady in the sewing department told me my machine was. (she was nice and did try to rig it up without charging me) The machine never worked again. So.... I went to Walmart, bought a Brother machine for 125.00, bought a service agreement that was under 10.00 that gave me three years replacement on it. I love this machine! Soooo much easier to use than the Singer, it has a lot more stitch choices, and I have used it A LOT! It's still running as it did when I first bought it, and it's two years old now. I will never need a sewing machine that costs over 200.00 because I am not a seamstress. So it's sad to say, but I will never buy a sewing machine from Joann again. I do like a lot of other things Joann sells and will still return to the store and purchase other things, but never again will I buy a machine from Joann, and never will I buy a Singer machine. I wanted to share b/c I just don't want anyone to go through what I went through. My machine died while I was working on a special order journal and really needing my machine.
I totally agreed concerning about Brother sewing machine. I research on internet to find most reliable and easier to use sewing machine. Brother machine is excellent choice for beginners... and it is so easy to use. I also bought mine from Walmart under $100.00 and it has over 50 different stitches. I play with each stitches..and I love those Brothers sewing machine,
I am with you on the Brother sewing machine from Walmart because I purchased mine 10 or 12 yr.'s ago for $100,00, it has many choices of stitches to chose from & my mom always had singer sewing machines that were always breaking down, so when I went to go buy my own, the popular show Project Runway had been on for several season's, they use Brother sewing machines & that's what helped me make my decision & for a lot less than the Singer sewing machines, so I thank Project Runway for helping me with my choice of sewing machines...Just adding my two scents! LOL Also, I have been watching Gayle since she began here on RU-vid & she is a joy to watch, listen to & so on, especially her giggles & laughs!!! Take care, Lily
you could do by hand running stitch is something I do from time to time - I either need a new sewing machine or this one completely overhauled, but for now I use nice thread: embroidery, silk or just ordinary cotton, sometimes yarn...sometimes I want to show you what my books look like:-)
When you go to Staples get a plastic/vinyl chair mat. They make them for carpet & hardwood floors. Makes your chair roll easier & no marks in the floor.
What wonderful patterns, great to use up the bits that are getting out of hand in my stash, I think the material has been breeding in my cupboard, no!!!!! It’s my collecting/buying compulsion!!!! Lol! TFS. 😻xx
If you like your chair and it's still comfortable, you might try just getting a chair mat (it makes a huge difference) and a little WD-40 on the wheels couldn't hurt either. Also check to see if there are threads, etc. wrapped around them making them difficult to roll - especially if it rolled ok before and now doesn't.
I love that chenille fabric! So pretty...it’s first time I have seen it on journal cover. I can imagine how gorgeous it will look when it’s done. I can’t wait to see your finish work. Very impressive!! Now, I can start shopping on Esty to find these chenille fabric if I can...and I would love to try one myself with your tutorial! I found a lot of batches with - one pound bag of cotton fabric for 99 cents at thrift stores. I have four boxes full of them already washed and folded. Lol.. Now I can keep an eye on chenille bed covers at thrift stores. I never realized how gorgeous they look. I enjoyed watching your tutorial gives me a lot things for me to try with it!! Gayle I love the chenille cover so much! I look for old chenille blankets all the time at thrift stores. They are few and far between but I do find them. Great video as always!
